Final design /// Fabric Garden is the first ever 3D hyperbolic surface textile. Composite fibres substitute soil, creating a green module for planting. It can be used to green the exterior of buildings, or become a small farm on a family balcony. The soft textile and modular frame can be adapted to either a flat or curved exterior of a building, easily creating a large area green wall. Modules are fitted with a water supply system which can be connected directly to the water channel modules for regular irrigation. Planting different plants in different areas, creates an artistic appearance, pioneering a new generation of green building materials.

Origin This graduation project wasn’t given a subject or a brief, but the group was asked to bring question and then develop them. The original questions of our group was about “urban farming”, which related to argriculture and urban-living style that the group then need to combine together.

Experience and observation
With respect to the agriculture aspect, we started to plant green vegetables ourselves and observe the process and of how we city dwellers plant plants and what kind of problems emerge.Started from this point, we brainstormed and came up with more issues related, such as modularization, interaction with open space and people, playfulness, and furnishing combination.

Idea devenlopment During the design processes, we generated miny kind of ideas which can be grouped in to 4 directions. 1.Furnishing / living decoration combination 2.Approach to sunshine and infrastructure 3.Space saving and modular design 4.Fun and interaction
Concept We were inspired by the common window shelter inTaiwan, and we created a lovely and inspiring scenario and used it as the concept to develop more detailed designs.
This design is a new combination of planting and window shelter. Below are advantages of it: 1. It is set up on a window. By using less space, it solves the space issue of modern living. 2. On sunny days, greens can absorb sunlight to cool down indoor temperature and also clean air. 3. On rainy days, greens absorb rain. While opened, such a green shelter helps for ventilation.

Scenario By "Herbow" solution, we hope people to get fresh greens, relax minds, and also green the urban area from their windows.

Normally Herbow is raised as a window shelter for plants growing on it.

User can start to fertilizing, organizing,and watering these greens.

There are two modes during operation. Automatically or manually, it makes the planting container partgo up and down.
When it goes down, the angle of the container is designed forusersto take care of plants more easily.

Of course, you can take the greens indoor when you want to enjoy the happiness of harvest or just appreciate it. The greens are planted on small cups attaching on the container, therefore they can be taken easily.

Concept Watering is the most easiestial way plants need to be taken care of. But we always worry about how much, and at what time to keep them green. We imagined, that there is one kind of paint on vase that can be stimulated by different soil humilities, from showing a pattern of cracks to water flowing individually. This way, the vase will not just be a container but also a living painting piece. The need of the living plant is shown and people are able to take care of it immediately, and the vase also brings us more and joy and accomplishment with a dramatic visual feedback.
