IMPACT REPORT 2017

“ TODAY, THE NEED FOR THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST TO BE MADE KNOWN IS MORE URGENT THAN EVER BEFORE.”

2

REACHING THE LEAST REACHED DEAR FRIENDS, Thank you for your partnership with us in sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ and His Kingdom throughout the nations. We praise and give thanks to the Lord of the harvest for all we were able to accomplish in 2017 because of your financial support and prayers. It is a thrill to be sharing in this ministry with you. Today, the need for the gospel of Jesus Christ to be made known is more urgent than ever before. As we set our sights on reaching the least reached, we remain steadfast and committed to the ministry of prayer and intercession and mobilising the Church to join us in this mission. It is such an encouragement to see people respond to

God’s call to ‘go’ and make disciples, through both Short and Long-Term service with OM. Their ministry, sustained by your prayers and financial gifts, is seeing lives transformed and vibrant communities of Jesus followers established amongst the least reached on a daily basis. Please take a moment to read this report which highlights the impact our partnership made last year. What a privilege it is to serve together in His mission. Thank you!

IMPACT REPORT 2017

OM WORLDWIDE 2. EUROPE 1.SHIPS “The ship was popular, with 48,000 people visiting in the time we were in the area. The hurricanes turned our month-long visit to just 2.5 weeks. Nevertheless, I was still able to meet locals and enjoy their hospitality and friendliness. While it was a complicated and stressful time, it has been amazing to see God work through the hurricanes and give us new opportunities, and to see how perfect his timing is despite everything. The ship’s visit was the first in a very long time, but it was great to see people remembering earlier visits, and the 3 impact it had then and has now.”

“For me, the Riverboat outreach was all consuming from about October onwards! This was a huge project to bring a riverboat down the Rhine. This meant recruiting a team of 32 people and coordinating a town-based outreach alongside the boat-based event, integrating the needs and help of local churches while balancing the needs of serving on board. It is up there on my “biggest challenges” list! My high points include seeing many local Christians get involved in serving God in local ministries, some for the first time.” *Peter, outreach co-ordinator

*George, Logos Hope crew

3. LATIN AMERICA “I visited a youth detention centre and shared my testimony with two young girls. They were initially reluctant to listen and seemed quite ‘hardened’ by difficult life experiences, including involvement with drugs and prostitution. However, when I shared how much God loves us like a Father no matter what we have done the girls began to listen. One of the girls started to ask me lots of questions. She didn’t have her own Bible so it was great to be able to give her one and pray for her.” *Anne, Logos Hope crew

“Visiting in the refugee camps continues. There are a few people who are open to studying God’s word – pray that doors will remain open – I started studying with one lady but then her husband started telling us we could not come in any more - in recent weeks the husband’s heart seems to have grown softer and he has let us start visiting regularly and received us with a warm welcome. The husband loves to discuss religious matters but gets caught up in conspiracy stories all time. Meanwhile his wife really wants to study and is asking when we can sit together and start our studies again.”

“Most of our fellowship are new believers, we’re older than about 90% of them, most are single in a culture that marries early, and all were brought up by parents who were taught not to rock the boat or think outside the box. The church itself is a young entity. So spiritual growth and maturity, discipleship, mentoring… these are the key things for the believers here. We’re so pleased that our growing fellowship have discerned this need and are focussing on training and stretching their members in this way.” *Adam and Jane, ministry leaders

“We recently had the amazing privilege of working with around 900 children, aged 10 & 11, each week with the Empowered Generation schools’ ministry. Over the eight weeks we spent with them their knowledge of God and knowledge of themselves, who they are and why God created them has really grown. They have learned that they have the right to protect themselves and the importance of making good choices even at this age. *Hazel, programme coordinator

7. SOUTHERN ASIA “My own worldview and values continue to be challenged when trying to understand and relate to people in this culture. I continue to realise how much I still have to learn about them, their behaviour which occurs because of their values, and deeper still their belief systems that these values are rooted in. It is humbling to be continuously learning. At times, it can be overwhelming when I realise how different our roots are and I wonder how I can relate to them, and yet at other times, it is exciting as I unearth new treasures of understanding or see how by God’s grace he is still able to use me despite my mistakes or lack of understanding.” *Betty, ministry coordinator
