grass skirt tiki room: exotic inspiration, local ties In 1934, Donn Beach opened Don's Beachcomber Cafe in Hollywood and "tiki" was born. This celebration of Hawaiian and Polynesian pop culture proved successful and Trader Vic followed suit in 1937. Here in Columbus, the much beloved Kahiki was a mid-century tiki monument for four decades until 2000. In similar spots across the country, lavish decor, exotic music and a cocktail menu of "rhum rhapsodies" allowed patrons to take a mini-vacation close to home. We proudly honor our city's tiki past by serving up our interpretation of the Port Light cocktail, as well as giving a new home to Kahiki's "George the Monkey" fountain. Originally in the entryway of the Kahiki, George now resides on our patio, on loan from the local chapter of the Fraternal Order of Moai. We raise a glass to all the pioneering tikiphiles who came before us and happily carry on their tradition with a selection of tiki classics, and a few of our own inventions. Cheers!
