Introduction

For a long time, through his photographic work, Deden H. Durahman took an interest in the creation of “artificial space” which not only pushed the boundary between reality and illusion into a blur, but also distorted - even though it took a long time for viewers to realize it because subject-matter has not appeared explicitly. With such a typical visual strategy, Durahman slowly invites viewers to enter “space where lies can be justified” while questioning: is reality a delusive individual product? The context of his photographic work is the socio-political and cultural turmoil that is currently engulfing Indonesia. This dynamic is, of course, valid globally. However, in terms of producing lies through images, Indonesia is currently facing it like acute cancer. In the current visual culture of Indonesia, people can no longer filter out which reality is created through lies and what is not. Through this Look \\ After photography project, Durahman offers at least this phenomenon. This project offers a reflection on the meaning of truth in the shadows of lies in today’s “post-truth” era. As he stated for this project, “visual culture in cyberspace must be criticized because it further alienates us from the truth - only construction.” Aminudin T.H. Siregar, Leiden 2019 07

Pengantar

Aminudin T.H. Siregar, Leiden 2019 08
