NEW PRODUCTS – made from peas and faba beans For many centuries, these legumes have been cultivated in the Nordic countries and they fit well within an organic crop rotation. In a few years, all of the raw materials for the Plant Mate products will come from Danish organic farms.

Plant products rich in protein

We strain the flour from the peas and the faba beans and use the part that is rich in protein for all of our products. The process and the technique we use is the same as the one used when making pasta, Havrefras, and similar products of various flour types. The technique is called extrusion. Organic Plant Protein make these products in a dry process without the use of chemicals.

Suitable as a meat substitute

In its dry form, the Plant Mate products contain 53% protein. When the dry products soak, they will absorb about 2-2½ times liquid in relation to their original weight. The protein content in the soaked and cooked product will be the same as in meat – about 18%. Plant Mate products can replace meat in almost every well-known and loved dinner course, burger, pate etc.

Toppings

Often times, toppings can be just the thing a nice meal needs! Spicy, marinated, and roasted Plant Mate products are highly suitable as a pizza topping, in an omelette, on rsoups, in salads, etc.

Climate-friendly and worldwise

Soaked Plant Mate products have the same levels of protein as meat (about 18%) but the impact on the climate is only 1,38kg/CO2 e/kg. In comparison, the climate impact from meat production is up to 100 times higher depending on the type of meat and the circumstances under which the livestock live. When you want the meal to contain good proteins and be climate-friendly at the same time – the Plant Mate products are simply unique.

The dry Plant Mate product is both very mild in taste and very light in colour Taste and colour are easily absorbed when the dry products soak in a liquid and when they are added directly to sauce or broth.

A guide to soaking

When the dry Plant Mate products soak, they will absorb 1,8-2,5 times the liquid in relation to their own weight. The soaking time is 10-45 minutes, depending on the type of product and the temperature of the liquid. It is also possible to let it soak overnight. When using the Plant Mate products in a stew, we recommend soaking them directly in the pot while making the dish. By doing this, the products absorb taste and colour from the spices and the other ingredients – and you save time! Using this method, extra liquid is needed. Add in the amount that will be absorbed by the Plant Mate products.

Long durability and no cooling needed

With Plant Mate products on the shelf, you always have the ingredients for a quick and easy protein-rich meal. The products have a durability of 2 years and you can store them at room temperature. They are delivered in plastic bags of 1-2 kg/bag. The bags are a type of plastic that can enter into recirculation.

A high-quality organic meat substitute

The Plant Mate products have been assessed by chefs and food companies both in Denmark and abroad – and they all think that these are the best plant protein products and meat substitutes they have yet had. The structure is similar to meat because of its long fibres and can therefore feel like eating chicken, for instance.

No numbers or allergens

The Plant Mate products excel by being made without any use of chemicals or additives. The degree of processing is the same as we know from the production of pasta that is made in various shapes and sizes. Choosing peas and faba beans ensures that the Plant Mate products are soy free and gluten free. Plant Mate around Europe Plant Mate products can also be found in stores and webstores around Europe. Here you will find them in small bags either in Plant Mate trademark or in other trademarks.

“Plant”balls

For ca. 10 ”Plant”balls

1 bag of Mince or Protein Mini, 125g 3 dl boiling water 1 dl Oatsmeal 3 tbsp Apple cider vinegar 1 tbsp Psyllium husks 1½ tsp Salt 1 small onion, grated 1/2 tsp Smoked paprika 1 tsp Vegetable broth powder 1/4 tsp Thyme 1/4 tsp Allspice 1/4 tsp Cumin, ground 1/4 dl oil Mix Plant Mate Mince or Granulate with water, vinegar, and oats. Add in the other dry ingredients (that is, everything but oil). Let the mixture sit until all liquid is absorbed, around 10 minutes. Chop about half of the mixture in a mini chopper/ food processor and slowly add the oil while stirring so that it becomes a sticky blend. Add in the rest of the mixture and mix/chop till the structure is as preferred. Shape the “plant”balls and roast them on a frying pan using butter or oil. We recommend letting the mixture sit for 30 minutes before shaping the “plant”balls, though you can also go right ahead and cook them immediately after shaping.

Bolognese

10 servings 300 g PlantMate Mince/Granulate 125 g Olive oil 200 g Onions, diced 80 g Garlic, chopped 500 g Mushrooms, sliced 350 g Carrots, sliced 150 g Celery, chopped 100 g Beetroot, diced 1200 g Water 700 g Tomato (passata) 35 g Apple cider vinegar 40 g Capers, pickled 33 g Salt 2,5 g Black pepper 3 g Nutmeg, powder 10 g Paprika edelsüss 5 g Oregano 5 g Cane sugar Brown off onions and garlic in olive oil beneath a lid. Add in mushrooms, beets, tomato, water, salt, capers, and spices and bring it to the boil. Add Mince and stir frequently. Let it simmer for 10 minutes. Add in carrots, celery leaves, and apple cider vinegar and let the dish simmer for further 10 minutes, approximately. This sauce is also suitable for lasagne.

NOTE! – for these 3 dishes, the Plant Mate products need NOT absorb liquid before you start.


LESS MEAT · MORE ECOLOGY Additionally, you have the opportunity to add protein rich ingredients to bread and the like, to reach a higher level of protein that you normally would.

Pasanda

10 servings 250 g Plant Mate Flakes 600 g Mushrooms, chopped 300 g Hokkaido pumpkin, small dices 600 g Onions, diced 70 g Garlic, chopped 700 g Tomato passata 700 g Coconut milk 100 g Pumpkin seeds 100 g Oil 50-100 g Lemon juice 700 g Water 35 g Salt 10 g Cane sugar 15 g Paprika Edelsüss 20 g Ginger, fresh shredded 5 g Cumin, powder 5 g Coriander seeds, powder 4 g Black pepper 1g Cayenne 3 g Cinnamon, powder 1g Cloves, powder Brown off onion and garlic in oil. Then add all spices except lemon juice and sugar. Turn the spices with the onions a few times. Add in mushrooms, water, tomato, and salt and bring it to the boil. Add in Flakes and pumpkinseeds and let the dish simmer for about 15 minutes while stirring frequently. Add in pumpkin, sugar, and coconut milk and let the dish continue simmering for 5-10 minutes. Finally, season with lemon juice.

Extra liquid for soaking is needed for these recipes.

Rum Truffles

15-20 pieces 85 g Plant Mate Mince/Granulate 165 g/165 dl Coffee, strong 145 g Dates 40 g Oat flour 20 g Cocoa 15 g Coconut oil 15 g Rum 15 g Coconut flour Soak the Plant Mate Mince/Granulate in coffee and wait till all of the liquid is absorbed, about 10 minutes. Mix the other ingredients in a food processor to a homogenous mass. You can sweeten the mass with sirup or powdered sugar. Shape the mass into truffles and roll them in fine coconut flakes or popped quinoa.

• With Plant Mate Granulate Mini When substituting 10-15% of the flour and seed mix used to make bread with Plant Mate Granulate Mini, it will give you twice the amount of protein. Granulate Mini is made from 90% pea protein and 1% salt, and we developed the product to optimize the protein level in bread. Guide: Add in double the amount of water for one amount of Granulate Mini. For instance, 2 dl water for 1 dl Granulate Mini. Let it soak for 15 minutes. Afterwards, it can mix with the other ingredients.


Varieties in different shapes and sizes If you have 2-3 Plant Mate varieties in stock, there will always be ingredients for varied meals with good proteins. Long durability, storage at room temperature, and various applications also contribute to less food waste. A mission with a company

“Plant Mate” is our brand and the company that produces the Plant Mate products is “Organic Plant Protein”. Though more than being a company with a mission, it is a mission with a company.

Organic Pioneers

Ulrich Kern-Hansen and Fie Graugaard established this new organic company in 2019. It was also Ulrich and Fie who established Hanegal many years ago. Initially, they ran an organic farm in 1980 and later a butchery and food production company in the 90s. Hanegal is mainly known for its purely organic meat products without chemicals but has nonetheless always stated, “Eat less meat” and choose your meat considerately. In 2018, Hanegal made the decision that 85% of its own products will be plant-based in 2030. Ulrich and Fie have created Hanegal on strong values that take the environment, the general health, and a sustainable future into careful consideration. Organic Plant Protein is based on the exact same values. The planet’s urgent need for a reduction in meat consumption is the basis for Hanegal’s new objective and for establishing the new company. It was through working to develop more plant-based products that Ulrich and Fie saw a need for organic meat substitutes of high quality from protein-rich Nordic-made raw materials. These did not exist – but now that the Plant Mate products have been developed, they do!

It should be easy

We hope that the Plant Mate products can make it easy to reduce meat consumption. The beloved and well-known dishes can stay on the menu only with a reduction of meat or even entirely devoid from it. Less meat and more plant-based food is also good for the health and, moreover, the meal will often be cheaper.
