flora
23 Mai / May— 09 Medi / September O chwyn cyffredin i gyltifarau egsotig, mae blodau wedi eu gwreiddio’n ddwfn yn ein bywydau ac wedi bod yn ysbrydoliaeth i artistiaid ers amser maith. Mewn arddangosfa bwerus a gweledol drawiadol, mae gwaith gan naw o artistiaid cyfoes yn datgelu sut y gall blodau ennyn syniadau diwylliannol, hanesyddol, daearyddol, cymdeithasol a gwyddonol. Mae comisiynau newydd, preswyliadau, a darnau o waith pwysig ar fenthyg yn cynnig ehangder o ddehongli ar y pwnc hwn. O gynrychioliadau cerfluniol cain, sy’n adleisio bregusrwydd bywyd, i luniau cymhleth iawn sy’n rhagweld dylanwad technoleg ar natur; mae syniadau’n rhychwantu’r ‘bywyd llonydd’ cyfoes i sut y gallai blodau byw a mannau gwyrdd weithredu fel safleoedd ar gyfer newid cymdeithasol. Artistiaid: Emma Bennett, Michael Boffey, Anya Gallaccio, Ori Gersht, Owen Griffiths, Anne-Mie Melis, Jacques Nimki, Yoshihiro Suda, Clare Twomey
From common weeds to exotic cultivars, flowers are deeply embedded within our lives and have long been an inspiration to artists. In a powerful and visually stunning exhibition, work by nine contemporary artists reveal how flowers can elicit cultural, historic, geographic, social and scientific ideas. New commissions, residencies, and major works on loan offer a breadth of interpretation of this subject. From exquisite sculptural representations, echoing the precariousness of life, to highly complex drawings predicting the influence of technology on nature; ideas span the contemporary ‘still life’ to how living flowers and green spaces might act as sites for social change. Artists: Emma Bennett, Michael Boffey, Anya Gallaccio, Ori Gersht, Owen Griffiths, Anne-Mie Melis, Jacques Nimki, Yoshihiro Suda, Clare Twomey flora is a National Touring Exhibition curated by Oriel Davies and supported by Arts Council of Wales. A full-colour publication will mark all the different elements as the project progresses and will be compiled as a limited edition in 2016.
Mae flora yn Arddangosfa Deithiol Genedlaethol sydd wedi’i churadu gan Oriel Davies ac sy’n cael ei chefnogi gan Gyngor Celfyddydau Cymru.

MORDANT Ellen Bell TestBed 23 Mai / May— 11 Gorffennaf / July Yn chwilfrydig o achos y dylanwad y gallai gofod celf penodol ac, yn wir, y gwaith sy’n cael ei ddangos ynddo, ei gael ar gyfathrebiadau llafar, treuliodd Ellen Bell wythnos yn Oriel Davies yn gwrando ar, ac yn cipio sgyrsiau. Drwy drawsgrifio’r rhyngweithiadau hyn gan ddefnyddio’r dull argraffu llythrenwasg, mae Bell yn cyflwyno ffacsimili o’r hyn a glywodd y gellir eu darllen a’u teimlo. Mae MORDANT (o’r Ffrangeg brathu) yn crynhoi’r syniad bod waliau rywsut yn amsugno’r trafodaethau sydd o’u cwmpas. Cefnogir MORDANT gan Gyngor Celfyddydau Cymru
Intrigued by the influence that a particular art space and, indeed, the work being shown within it might have upon spoken exchanges, Ellen Bell spent a week at Oriel Davies listening to and capturing conversations. Transcribing these interactions using the printing method of letterpress, Bell presents a facsimile of what she heard that can be both read and felt. MORDANT (from the French to bite) encapsulates the notion that walls somehow absorb the discourses that surround them. MORDANT is supported by Arts Council of Wales

Ar drywydd Dic Aberdaron / The scent of Dic Aberdaron Gwyn Williams
Roedd Dic Aberdaron (Richard Robert Jones, 1780—1843), a elwir hefyd yn Dic o Aberdaron, yn deithiwr o Gymro ac yn w ˆr oedd â gwybodaeth helaeth o lawer o ieithoedd. Ar ôl gwneud gwaith seiliedig ar yr arwr Cymreig hwn, darganfu’r artist Gwyn Williams mai Dic yw’r ail ffigwr Cymreig sydd wedi cael ei dynnu neu ei gerflunio fwyaf ar ôl Lloyd George. Mae ymdrechion Williams yn crybwyll, ac yn parhau â’r traddodiad hwn. Copi yw ‘The scent of Dic Aberdaron’ o benddelw goll, y tybir ei bod wedi ei cholli ond a gedwir, yn ôl pob tebyg, yn rhywle yn gyfrinachol.
Dic Aberdaron (Richard Robert Jones, 1780—1843), also known as Dick of Aberdaron, was a Welsh traveller and man with a vast knowledge of many languages. After making work based on this Welsh hero, artist Gwyn Williams discovered that Dic is the second most drawn or sculpted Welsh figure after Lloyd George. Williams’ effort remarks upon, and continues, this tradition. ‘The scent of Dic Aberdaron’ is a copy of a missing bust, presumed lost but very possibly held somewhere in secret.
