ver the past few years, Thailand has not been timid when it comes to banning websites that they deem problematic. Before 2006, 34,411 websites were blocked by the Royal Thai Police, the Communications Authority of Thailand, and the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology or MICT. A large chunk of these sites involved pornography at about 60%, while 11% were threats to national security, including criticisms to the country’s leaders plus the royal family. China Sets UnionPay Overseas Cash Withdrawal Limits 中国对银联海外取款设置限额 Deterring money laundering and decreasing capital outflow are just some of the reasons why China’s State Administration for Foreign Exchange or SAFE decided to tighten management of cross-border cash withdrawals. According to SAFE, violators will be added to a watch list and will be subsequently be prevented from making additional cash withdrawals outside China.

It can be remembered that last August, the People’s Bank of China (PBOC) devalued the yuan by 1.9 percent in an effort to make its exchange rate more market-oriented. This led to investors exchanging their yuan (formally, the renminbi or RMB) to Bitcoin as a way of rescuing the equivalent value of the amount.

This reaction is what led to the shift in the Bitcoin’s price, not to mention a major movement in the graph involving the fiat and the digital currencies.
