PLDT accelerates digital transformation with Maya Bank Voyager’s PayMaya secures digital bank license from BSP

LDT group has taken a great step forward in its digital banking development.

PLDT’s Voyager Innovations, Inc. (“Voyager”) is the leading technology company in the Philippines, focused on emerging market platforms for digital and financial inclusion. Its financial technology arm, PayMaya Philippines (“PayMaya”) is firmly established as the country’s trusted e-wallet and payment processing system. On 20 September 2021 Voyager, through PayMaya, announced that it had obtained the approval of the Monetary Board of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (“BSP”) to establish a digital bank.

To be named Maya Bank, it will leverage PayMaya’s successful track record of being at the forefront of accelerating financial inclusion in the country. Maya Bank’s primary focus will be the largely unbanked and underserved population of consumers and micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (“MSMEs”). ACCELERATING DIGITAL ADOPTION Chairman of PLDT, Voyager and PayMaya Manuel V Pangilinan said: “The digital transformation of our country is at the top of the PLDT group’s agenda, and this development is a big step forward for Voyager and PayMaya. Maya Bank will be a key vehicle in hastening digital adoption among Filipinos through inclusive financial services.”
