THE REMARKABLE TRUE STORY BROADWAY SEASON SPONSORED BY

A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT & CEO 576 Days! It has been 576 days since we closed Disney’s Aladdin and had a Broadway show in the Orpheum. When we closed our doors to wait-out the then-new pandemic, I thought it might be for two or three months. Never did I imagine that our Broadway industry would be completely devastated. Never did I imagine it would be 576 days before the lights came back on and the curtain went up on another Broadway musical. Welcome Back! I want to begin this letter by saying thank you to everyone who helped us get through these past 576 days! I would love to list you all individually. But doing so would surely result in an unintentional omission on my part, so I will just shout out one big THANK YOU! To our subscribers. To our donors. To our staff. To our Board. To those who played mini golf on our stage. To our volunteers. To the universe. Words can never express the depth of my appreciation to everyone. Mostly, in this message, I want to address the magic of this art form that I love and of which I have been a practitioner since I first stepped on a stage as a scared fiveyear-old kid dressed as a horse: the theatre! While I may have gotten the length of time wrong in my estimate of how long the pandemic would keep the Orpheum dark, I was not wrong when I promised all of you that the theatre would be back! I made that promise because humanity needs live theatre. Only in the theatre can we be transformed to another place, another time, another life by performers that we can see and hear while beautiful music from the orchestra pit lifts our spirits. Live performances bring us together. They remind of us of our obligation to our fellow beings. They provide us with a new perspective. They make us laugh and cry. They make us fall in love and feel love. All while sitting in a dark room with other people who are feeling the same emotions. Live theatre makes us human. So, I could make that promise with confidence. Because despite what happens outside these walls, theatre will persevere. The entire Orpheum family could not be happier that we have made it past this 576-day journey through the desert. And I cannot say it loud enough nor often enough. Welcome back! I am so glad you are here.

Brett Batterson President & CEO Orpheum Theatre Group
