MARQUEE March 19 - 24, 2019

Dear Friends, It was with great excitement that the Orpheum Theatre Group announced our upcoming 2019-2020 Broadway Season on February 25th! Many of you attended the reveal event in person. At 700+ theatre-lovers, it was one of the largest crowds ever at one of our reveals. Many others who could not get to the Orpheum in person watched the live-stream on Facebook. In fact, 500 of you watched this broadcast of the event! I thank all of you who were in attendance or watched it on the internet. I hope you had as much fun hearing about the season as I had sharing it with you! Perhaps this is an over-used marketing phrase, but it is definitely true for our 2019-2020 season; there is something here for everyone! For those who love classic musicals, we have Hello, Dolly! For those who want the latest offerings direct from Broadway, we have Dear Evan Hansen and Come From Away. For children of all ages, we offer Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Disney’s Aladdin. For those looking for more adult fare, we present A Bronx Tale and season option number one, The Book of Mormon. And finally, for those who like non-musical comedies, we bring you season option number two, The Play That Goes Wrong. Like I said, something for everyone! This season is also guaranteed to make you run the gamut in emotional responses. You will laugh uproariously at some shows, cry unabashedly at a couple, be moved by the goodness of mankind at a few, and finally, be overjoyed at the pure exuberance of others. It is a season that is not to be missed! Current season ticket holders have until March 25 to renew their tickets. If you have not already done so, I encourage you to go online now to Orpheum-Memphis.com/Account and renew. Or you can call (901) 5253000. Either way, do it today to make certain you don’t miss any of these exciting shows. New season ticket packages will go on sale on April 22 at Orpheum-Memphis.com. If you have not previously been a season ticket holder at the Orpheum, I can think of no better season than this to be your first. You are a valued member of the Orpheum family! Your commitment to the theatre, as demonstrated by being a season ticket holder, is vital to our long-term planning. I cannot thank enough for your support. I look forward to bringing this 2019-2020 Broadway Season to Memphis. Here at the Orpheum, the show must (and does) go on! Sincerely,

Brett Batterson President & CEO Orpheum Theatre Group

Beautiful sunrise, sunset.

An education that suits her.

Thanks to MOST,

Khaili’s mom was able to choose the right school for her. Not limited by income level or ZIP code, she and hundreds of other Shelby County parents have been able to consider private schools that were once out of reach. ENTERTAIN. EDUCATE. ENLIGHTEN. The mission of the Orpheum Theatre Group is to enhance the communities we serve by utilizing the performing arts to entertain, educate, and enlighten while preserving the historic Orpheum Theatre and the Halloran Centre for Performing Arts & Education. As a 501(c)3 nonprofit, we rely on your contributions to keep the sparkle in our chandeliers and the glimmer in our gold leaf. DONOR SPOTLIGHT We sat down with Orpheum board member David Pickler, President and CEO of Pickler Wealth Advisors, to find out what he loves most about the theatre.

Tell us about your earliest memories of the performing arts. I grew up in the theatre, both onstage and admiring my mother, who was a talented singer and a frequent community theatre performer. I will never forget her powerful performance as the lead in the musical Mame, and I am incredibly appreciative of those who possess the unique ability to touch our souls.

to the creative arts in all their forms. And in the case of High School Musical Theatre Awards, the talent of our local students amazes me. The dedication and creativity these teachers inspire in their students is remarkable. They have created an environment within their schools that fosters a love for theatre and encourages many to pursue their dreams beyond high school.

What is your favorite thing about the Orpheum? The energy! Whether for the artist performing onstage or for the patron enjoying live theatre, it’s a place where magic is created and where dreams can come true. You’re a big supporter of the annual High School Musical Theatre Awards. What about that program inspires you? I believe that the heart and soul of a community is expressed by its commitment

Julianne (granddaughter), David, Beth (wife)

You’ve been an Orpheum patron for 35 years. What are some memories that stand out?

You know a thing or two about investments. Why should someone invest in the Orpheum?

I have more memories than this space would permit. My wife and I have enjoyed a lifetime of amazing experiences bringing our kids, Katie and Chris, to see CATS, The Phantom of the Opera, Fiddler on the Roof, Miss Saigon, Les Misérables, and most special to me, Wicked. Katie was an Orpheum intern during college where she worked on the Orpheum’s Summer Movie Series, and on August 10th she’ll be married on the Orpheum stage – the perfect culmination of a lifelong love between my family and the Orpheum.

While science, technology, engineering, and mathematics are vitally important to future success, the essential element of arts education transforms STEM into a powerful STEAM engine that feeds our souls and propels us toward meaningful and significant growth. As a rising leader in arts education, the Orpheum is more than a theatre. It is a place that is changing lives and empowering dreams.

THEATRE ETIQUETTE As a courtesy to the performers and patrons, latecomers will be seated at an appropriate break in the performance. Turn off your cell phone and other electronic devices. The light and noise from cell phones and electronic devices are a distraction to performers and those seated around and above you. No text messaging, photography, or recording. Do not talk or whisper during the performance. Be conscientious about the noise you may be making while enjoying concessions or searching through your bag. You may be distracting or disturbing the patrons around you and the actors on stage. The Orpheum staff and our dedicated team of volunteer ushers work hard to accommodate modern crowds in our historic theatre. Please be patient as we work to serve you as best as possible. Certain productions may not be suitable for all ages. We recommend taking the time to determine which shows are appropriate for your children. Visit our website at Orpheum-Memphis.com or call our Box Office at (901) 5253000 if you have any questions. In order to ensure the safety of our guests, purses, briefcases, and bags may be inspected upon arrival. Firearms, knives, and weapons of any kind are prohibited inside the theatre. Other items not allowed inside the theatre include illegal drugs, laser pointers, fireworks, outside food and beverages, SLRs, DSLRs, video cameras, professional cameras, including external flash camera units or interchangeable/detachable lenses, and pets other than service animals. Larger items that have the potential to block walkways or disturb other patrons will need to be stored at coat check. For your convenience, we recommend refraining from bringing large bags to the theatre. Help us keep our venues secure — if you see anything suspicious, please tell an usher or other Orpheum Theatre Group representative.
