EDITORIAL

JOINT ROPE TEAMS We spent a long time preparing for these big mountain moments. We needed to overcome obstacles, cursed our passion and questioned our own sanity. But after arriving at the summit with our rope partner, we were overwhelmed by joy from the very bottom of our hearts. Joy that was made possible by hard work and expertise. Hard work and intensive preparation also define our 2019 Summer Collection: In Mountainwear, extraordinary ideas led us to the MERINO WINDBREAKER. The first windbreaker to be made of a material containing over 50 percent fine merino fibers is a unique “wool sensation”! Through our constant pursuit of perfection, we also arrived at a new spinning process: With BETA-SPUN technology, fine polyamide filaments are spun around a merino wool core. This makes the merino yarn more abrasion resistant and robust than ever before – while the fine merino fibers can still be felt on your skin. This yarn is used in the new MERINO HERITAGE and 150 MERINO COOL lines. The MERINO HERITAGE line is inspired by the Bennett family from Ashby Farm: Their boundless passion for sheep and the land is an homage to the fine merino wool. With 9,000 merinos and 28,000 hectares of land in the eastern Tasmanian Highlands, Ashby Farm symbolizes the values of the ORTOVOX WOOL PROMISE (OWP). Ashby is one of the verified ORTOVOX farms to take the wellbeing of its sheep to a higher level thanks to their full commitment. Based upon the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS), the OWP takes an even more extensive approach and is intended to provide the consumer with the greatest possible supply chain transparency. In Hardware, our emergency equipment is getting its first WATERPROOF companion: The FIRST AID WATERPROOF sets are entirely waterproof and complete our range of carefully considered first aid products that provide quick support after alpine accidents. Maximum protection is also the name of the game in the SAFETY ACADEMY LAB ROCK – another milestone in the SAFETY ACADEMY story. We have launched the SAFETY ACADEMY LAB ROCK in close cooperation with the Verband deutscher Berg- und Skiführer (VDBS – German mountain and ski guide association), the company Petzl, and numerous professional mountain guides and athletes: The LAB ROCK is an interactive, multimedia training platform that stands for more safety in alpine climbing with over 30 video tutorials, comprehensive educational modules and four chapters. Whether the bivouac is planned or you have to spend an unintentional night on the mountain because of a sudden change in the weather or an accident – our BIVI PRO will protect you! It is WINDPROOF and, thanks to the PU coating, also WATER AND DIRT RESISTANT; a SILVER LINING on the inside protects against cold by REFLECTING BODY HEAT. But the lightweight and extremely robust BIVI PRO is far more than just a bivi bag. Thanks to its many loops, it CAN BE USED IN A NUMBER OF WAYS. CHRIS SEMMEL The state-certified mountain and ski guide is a trainer at the Verband deutscher Bergund Skiführer (VDBS – German mountain and ski guide association) and is a serious source of expertise for this project.

WALTER WÜRTL The alpine expert is also a state-certified mountain and ski guide as well as an expert on alpine and avalanche accidents. He explains complex topics for the camera in a way that is easy to understand.

FRANK AMMON An important member of the marketing team, “Franki” is responsible for SAFETY ACADEMY, provides support throughout the Alps for over 27 partner mountain schools, and coordinates ORTOVOX safety projects.

ORTOVOX stands for protection. Winter and summer. Teaching alpine expertise is at the center of this: In training courses, in online media, and offline in our guide books. We don’t use short-term campaigns – we much prefer to give our customers long-term added value that will keep them safer when out in the mountains. The campaign is also designed to present our climbing products, which play an important role. ORTOVOX stands for alpinism – whatever the season.

As a partner of the Verband deutscher Berg- und Skiführer (VDBS – German mountain and ski guide association), we have access to one of the most professional alpine resources in the world. During the first stage, we discussed the content and gave the project a structure. The resulting detailed content was then created through close cooperation between our editor Rabea and Chris Semmel, a trainer from the VDBS teaching team. For the film storyboards, mountain guide, bergundsteigen editor and alpine expert Walter Würtl provided support in the form of his extensive expertise.

The LAB provides both us and the industry with an enormous content pool that can be used on various social media channels or websites. The content can be used for marketing ORTOVOX climbing products such as clothing, backpacks or first aid equipment, or can provide entertainment for our content-hungry customers. Embed codes for the videos, images and teaser texts can be downloaded for free from our media room.

The SWISSWOOL-TEC-KNIT BACK SYSTEM stands for the innovative synthesis of a TECHNICAL FOAM BACK with HEAT-PRESSED SWISS WOOL covered with a 3D HIGH-TECH KNITTED FABRIC. The wool pads are used in the zones that come into contact with the back, storing large volumes of moisture without feeling wet.

It is EXTREMELY LIGHTWEIGHT, TECHNICAL and even more FUNCTIONAL with the new SWISSWOOL-TEC-KNIT BACK SYSTEM. In an innovative method, we combine foam and pressed Swisswool covered with a high-tech knitted fabric with a different hole structure. This processing enables excellent TEMPERATURE MANAGEMENT and maximum COMFORT. Features such as the hip belt, ice axe holder and lid compartment can be removed completely. Extremely lightweight, durable and high-quality nylon fabric. The weave of two yarns makes this material extremely STURDY and ABRASION RESISTANT. Nylon fabric is also one of the LIGHTEST MATERIALS that we work into our backpacks. The PU coating on the inside makes the fabric waterproof. The DWR coating makes the outside water-resistant.

COMFORT CONTACT

The Swisswool backs on our HIGH ALPINE SERIES backpacks are made of pressed WOOL FLEECE with a punchhole covering. Thanks to the wool, the backpack can ABSORB MUCH MORE MOISTURE FROM THE BACK and at the same time is MORE BREATHABLE than conventional backpacks that are made using foam material, for example. A further advantage of wool is that the surface of the back system dries faster. The FULL CONTACT BACK fits closely to the body and offers optimum weight distribution. The back design consists of three aluminum struts that offer HIGH STABILITY and guarantee GREAT COMFORT, even when the backpack is heavily loaded.

The CONTACT PADS in our ALPINE SERIES light-weight back system ensure permanent CIRCULATION OF AIR, and make our backpacks a pleasure to wear during activities that involve a great deal of movement. In addition, the soft pads offer extremely high wear comfort.

SWISSWOOL-TEC-KNIT BACK SYSTEM

HIGH FLEX CONTACT The back system for our CLIMBING SERIES offers a light-weight, REMOVABLE ALUMINUM FRAME and a FULL-CONTACT CARRYING SYSTEM. The frame is very flexible, but rigid along the horizontal axis in order to bear as much weight as possible. Thanks to its 3D shape, the backpack fits closely to the back and guaranties GREAT FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT and the best possible wear comfort.

In the SWISSWOOL-TEC-KNIT BACK SYSTEM, we combine foam and pressed Swiss wool covered with a HIGH-TECH KNITTED FABRIC with a different hole structure. In areas with lots of back contact, we have used SWISSWOOL® PADS with a larger hole structure. That means that the wool can absorb moisture (sweat) much faster, and is simultaneously MORE BREATHABLE and FEELS DRY on your back – even during sweat-inducing climbs. We have placed foam in areas with less back contact to offer more STABILITY and better WEAR COMFORT.

Our S-backpacks are SPECIALLY DESIGNED FOR WOMEN AND MEN WITH SHORTER BACKS They are primarily characterized by their significantly shorter back system, which makes them PERFECT FOR PEOPLE WITH SHORT BACKS. The hip and shoulder straps have also been adapted to the FEMALE ANAÂTOMY: The shoulder straps are thinner and shorter and have a pronounced S-shape. The massive, bizarre towers of the Pala group protrude from the stony alpine plateau. Climbing here in the southernmost mountain range of the Dolomites takes strong nerves – and strong material. Our new COLODRI PANTS and SHORTS are right at home on these rock faces. In the climbing pants in the SHIELD CANVAS LIGHT line, we combine ORGANIC COTTON with polyamide and elastane. This makes the line light, breathable, elastic, and robust at the same time. The cotton used is organically grown and certified. ATHLETIC FIT Athletic fit is a SPORTY CUT that HUGS THE BODY: The pants are tight-fitting at the thighs and calves. In combination with the elastic materials, the cut provides an optimum, well-defined fit with sufficient freedom of movement.

LONG

REGULAR FIT Regular fit refers to a “NORMAL” FIT. Regular fit is a standard cut and is neither tight-fitting nor wide. This classic fit is in between athletic fit and loose fit.

LOOSE FIT Loose fit is a LIGHT, CASUAL FIT. The pant legs are cut wider than regular fit and the crotch is lower. This means the pants are loose and provide lots of FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT.
