THE THEATRICAL REHABILITATION CAFE
1
Project Statement The project we are focusing on is located in Croydon; our participating partners are Fairfield Halls who we are create a temporary location for. Also, Be Enriched, Porchlight and nightwatch who will be participating in our Schedule. We are focusing on breaking down the Social stigma between the homeless and public through the opportunity of Fairfield closing its venue over the next two years. We are attempting to blur the lines between the spectatre and the actors. We are approaching a proposal of a Theatrical Theatre with the combination of a Rehabilitation Café. The reason we have decided to focus on Homeless is because in Croydon as for every 1000 people in Croydon 5 of them are street homeless and 13 of them are in Temporary Accommodation, such as Bed and Breakfasts which forces them to roam the streets aimlessly from the hours of 9am – 6pm, even with children – including babies, ¼ of the people who are in temporary accommodation have o

Since moving into this unit there has been a 75% increase in unit occupancy and a 400% increase in foot fall.” The immediate area surrounding the rise gallery has clearly seen an increase in the community using the space, as well as the introduction of art on the other units.

Participating Partners and Charities
Crisis are extremely important towards our project as firstly they are a two-minute walk from our site on Surrey Street. Not only this but they are involved in helping support single clients and deliver advise towards finding accommodation may it be B&B’s or hostels. They will be part of our mentoring system as not only are we intending on rehabilitating our clients, but hoping to find them places to dwell constantly. Our main clientele are currently B&B homeless therefore Crisis could help find a more permanent solution for housing, within our project.
The reason we decided to use Nightwatch, Croydon as one of our participating partners is due to the fact they already consistently hold events, daily at 9pm, in the Queens gardens which was one of our original sites. From the beginning of our project they became an important factor due the inspirational work they collaborate with our clients. Originally we wanted to incorporate an office as they don’t have a headquarters but instead we decided to involve them into our schedule through mentoring and teaching skills.
Be Enriched have been chosen to participate in our project due to the fact they work with a variety of our clients all over London, which would bring in a larger amount of our Clientele. They deliver community meals which is a large part of our programme, as we are hosting a Café within our structure – they have acquired a large amount of volunteers which will be extremely helpful towards our situation. They also hold weekly therapeutic play and storytelling which suits our theme of Theatre within our project, this could also be involved and integrated from their charity to our programme.
