There is a lack of recreational facilities in Croydon meaning there are no real attractions to bring visitors into the area. Underused areas in Croydon leads to locals to feeling threatened and vulnerable due to the high rate of youth violence in the area. Closure of Fairfields Hall has left many locals without any cultural entertainment.

CONCEPT site A

During the day the open space serves as a playground area where the public (particularly the college's student) can socially gather and interact. During the evenings, especially during the weekends, Arnham game will serve as a screen turning the open space into open air cinema. The built structure serves as both the seating area as well as a bike shelter for the bicycle hire scheme.

CONCEPT site C

St. George's Walk forms the central part of a complex bounded to the south, by Katharine Street, to the north by Park Street and to the east and west by Park Lane and High Street respectively. The complex is bisected by Fell Road. As of August 2015 only the eastern half was roofed. NestlĂŠ's former UK headquarters, St George's House, forms part of the complex at the Park Lane end. As a result of the uncertainty surrounding a possible redevelopment, some of the established businesses, both in the precinct and where the development formed part of neighbouring roads, either closed or re-located, and by 2010 the area had become run-down. So why we are going to choose St George's walk as the site C? According to lots of investgations, as well as the site visit, we found that this area are underused, so that makes the local economy non existent and forces small business to shut. Also, It is isolated from the commercial area and no real attraction for locals or visitors. However, it got a great location and environment, for it is covered in a kind of interior space, people can get through and stay. Hence, this area is a multi-functional space with a great potential.

CONCEPT site D

The temporary theatre space occupies the waterworks square and when not in use serves as a public realm open for pedesterians and visitors to use as a meeting and gathering point. The proposal also includes an information point and a mixed used canopy space for additional tempoary usage, flexibility and utility. theatre
