Orlando, FL - El municipio de Orlando convoca a artistas que deseen exhibir sus obras de arte en la Galería Terrace de la alcaldía de Orlando durante el Mes de la Hispanidad. La inauguración de la exhibición y evento será el jueves 12 de septiembre a las 5:00 p.m. y estará abierta al público del 19 de agosto al 18 de octubre de 2019.

Los artistas interesados deberán enviar lo siguiente a Keith Beasley, coordinador de arte público del municipio: • Biografía u hoja de vida del artista incluyendo su país de procedencia.

• De tres a cinco piezas de arte en formato JPG. Recomendamos temas relacionados con la hispanidad.

Gran apertura de "Discover Downtown", el Centro de Información en el centro de Orlando completamente renovado y ampliado Orlando, FL - El miércoles, 10 de julio se inauguró el Centro de Información de Downtown Orlando que ha sido completamente renovado y ampliado.

El programa comienzó a las 3 p.m. y contó con la participación del alcalde de Orlando Buddy Dyer y otros funcionarios electos.

La renovación casi ha duplicado el tamaño del centro, que ahora cuenta con 3,800 pies cuadrados y ofrece, además de los servicios regulares, la venta de mercancía hecha por fabricantes locales, un mapa interactivo

del downtown en la pared y un mural de 30 pies del artista local Boy Kong.

Call for Artists Orlando, FL - The City of Orlando is seeking local artists to display their artwork in the Terrace Gallery at City Hall for the month of September in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.

Grand opening of Discover Downtown, the Information Center in downtown Orlando completely renovated and expanded Orlando, FL - On Wednesday, July 10, the Downtown Orlando Information Center was opened and completely renovated and expanded.

The program started at 3 p.m. and included the participation of Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and other elected officials.

The renovation has almost doubled the size of the center, which now has 3,800 square feet and offers, in addition to regular services, the sale of merchandise made by

local manufacturers, an interactive downtown map on the wall and a 30foot mural of the local artist Boy Kong.

During the event, guests will have the opportunity to meet local vendors, leave their mark on the interactive coloring wall, take a selfie in front of the mural and get a 10% discount on merchandise from noon to 5 p.m.

Since its pre-opening in May 2019, the center has received more than 1,000 guests.

El Condado Osceola se prepara para la temporada de huracanes Condado Osceola, FL – Sabiendo el tremendo impacto que puede tener un solo huracán que atraviesa la Florida Central para los residentes, los empleados y asociados del Condado Osceola se reunieron recientemente para afinar sus habilidades de respuesta ante desastres.

Osceola County prepares for hurricane season Osceola County, FL - Knowing the tremendous impact that just one hurricane making its way through Central Florida can have on residents, Osceola County employees and partners recently came together to hone their disaster response skills.

All residents should prepare for hurricane season by creating a family plan and disaster supply kit, securing personal property and having a place to go in the event of an evacuation.

The annual hurricane exercise included review of personnel, systems, resources and software, as well as the latest forecast from the National Weather Service. After an overview of operations and disaster roles, participants worked as a team responding to the aftermath of “Hurricane Sorenson’s” landfall in Osceola County.

USCIS celebró el Día de la Independencia al dar la bienvenida a casi 7,500 nuevos ciudadanos Washington - El Servicio de Ciudadanía e Inmigración de Estados Unidos (USCIS, por sus siglas en inglés) celebró la Declaración de Independencia y el nacimiento de esta gran nación, al dar la bienvenida a casi 7,500 nuevos ciudadanos en cerca de 110 ceremonias de naturalización que se llevaron a cabo entre el 1 y el 5 de julio. Las ceremonias de naturalización se llevaron a cabo en lugares de todo el país, e incluyeron varias ceremonias destacadas.

El director interino de USCIS, Ken Cuccinelli, administró el Juramento de Lealtad y dio un mensaje de felicitación a 52 nuevos estadounidenses el 2 de julio, en el Museo y Memorial del 9/11 en la Ciudad de Nueva York. To the Editor Carta al Editor Por el alcalde de Kissimmee José Álvarez Estoy muy decepcionado ya que el Gobernador Ron DeSantis recientemente vetó $965,000 designados en el presupuesto para el sistema de objetivos de armas de fuego dentro del Centro de Capacitación de Seguridad Pública de la Ciudad, que está en construcción y se espera que abra en la primavera del 2020.

El Centro de Capacitación de Seguridad Pública de KPD es un área de siete acres que se enfocará en los componentes críticos de capacitación asociados con las responsabilidades de seguridad de la policía y los bomberos de Kissimmee. Esta instalación incluirá un campo de tiro de armas de fuego en interior y posicionará mejor al Departamento de Policía de Kissimmee y otras agencias del cumplimiento de la ley para proporcionar mejor capacitación en armas de fuego y entrenamiento basado en posibles escenarios para mejorar su capacidad de salvar las vidas de los oficiales y la comunidad.

By Kissimmee Mayor Jose Alvarez I’m very disappointed Governor Ron DeSantis recently vetoed $965,000 designated in the budget for the firearms targeting system inside the City’s Public Safety Training Center, which is under construction and expected to open in Spring 2020.

The KPD Public Safety Training Center is a seven-acre site that will focus on the critical training components associated with Kissimmee Police and Fire safety responsibilities. This facility will include an indoor firearms range and will better position the Kissimmee Police Department and other law enforcement agencies to provide superior firearms and scenario-based

training to enhance their ability to save the lives of the officers and the community.

The total project cost is of $8.6 million, and will offer an improved learning environment necessary for law enforcement officers to meet the challenges they face every day. Upon its completion, the City of Kissimmee Public Safety Training Center will be dedicated to Sergeant Sam Howard and Officer Matthew Baxter, who were killed in the line of duty in 2017.

I promise that we are going to work hard to make the necessary budget adjustments to ensure the project is completed on time.

KUA presenta "trailer" educativo sobre energía solar Kissimmee, FL - Kissimmee Utility Authority ha presentado un tráiler de demostración de energía solar para educar a los clientes y estudiantes de servicios públicos sobre la producción de energía solar y el almacenamiento de baterías, así como las medidas de conservación de energía.

Apodado el "SunCatcher", el "trailer"remolcable presenta una matriz solar en expansión de 14 paneles fotovoltaicos que suman 1.6 kilovatios (kW), un inversor / cargador de potencia múltiple sinusoidal pura de 6.8 kW y un sistema de batería de almacenamiento de 5,280 vatioshora. El remolque también cuenta con un generador de respaldo y dos estaciones de carga de vehículos eléctricos de nivel 1.

Durante su lanzamiento, el "trailer" se ha utilizado en escuelas, eventos comunitarios y reuniones de asociaciones de propietarios.

Recientemente, se usó para recargar teléfonos celulares y como refuerzo de energía para la tarima

de la exposición anual EnergyWhiz del Florida Solar Energy Center en la vecina ciudad de Cocoa.

KUA unveils solar energy education trailer Kissimmee, FL - Kissimmee Utility Authority has unveiled a solar energy demonstration trailer to educate utility customers and students on solar energy production and battery storage, as well as energy conservation measures.

Dubbed the “SunCatcher,” the towable trailer features an expanding solar array of 14 photovoltaic panels totaling 1.6 kilowatts (kW), a 6.8 kW pure sine multi power inverter/ charger, and a 5,280-watt-hour storage battery system. The trailer also features a backup generator and two Level-1 electric vehicle charging stations.

During its soft launch, the trailer has been used at schools, community events and homeowner association meetings. Most recently, it was used for cell phone charging and back-up stage power for the Florida Solar Energy Center’s annual EnergyWhiz

expo in the neighboring city of Cocoa.

When the trailer is not in use, it connects to the utility’s electrical grid and generates power back to the grid during sunlight hours. The SunCatcher can also be used to power emergency relief activities following a hurricane or natural disaster.

“This solar trailer brings the sun’s power to life and serves as a portable classroom for our community,” said Susan Postans, KUA’s vice president of customer service.

“We’re proud to be able to educate both children and adults through this unique educational display.”

The SunCatcher was developed using a repurposed truck and utility trailer which were no longer in use.

The exterior design of the vehicles features many of Kissimmee’s historical buildings and landmarks.

A lo largo de los vastos océanos del mundo, los pequeños países insulares, desde Jamaica en el Caribe hasta Samoa en el Pacífico Sur, enfrentan una amenaza existencial por el aumento de nivel del mar causado por la crisis climática. Estos 41 pequeños estados insulares en desarrollo (SIDS, por sus siglas en inglés), incluidos Granada, Jamaica y Santa Lucía en el Caribe y las Islas Salomón y Fiji en el Pacífico, se enfrentan a una extinción total por el aumento de los océanos en los próximos 40 a 80 años. Son los pequeños países insulares vulnerables del mundo que se encuentran en la primera línea de la crisis climática.

Food and fresh water supplies, housing and job security will be at risk.

According to the U.S. government’s Fourth National Climate Change Assessment, released in November of 2018 and the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Special Report of October of 2018, the world’s oceans rose 8 inches since the advent of the industrial revolution, the biggest increase occurring just since the 1990s. Climate scientists predict that the seas will continue to rise 2 to 8 feet by 2100 and possibly much higher.

They estimate that after 2100 the seas could continue to rise several more feet each decade if we continue “business as usual” and there are no immediate and drastic reductions of greenhouse gases.

As the surrounding sea begins to flood low lying coastal zones of these islands, where most populations live, they will flee, first inland to higher ground and eventually be forced to emigrate in masse to other countries.

Will they be welcomed into the wealthy, industrialized countries that are responsible for sea level rise or will the fleeing populations of millions be turned away and live precariously as “climate refugees?” Ghastly images of homeless “boat people” come into view.

Should these island nations seek to hold the industrialized countries liable to pay the costs of economic disruption and population resettlement through the creation of new international treaties?

Nine U.S. cities and counties from New York to California have filed lawsuits against large oil companies to pay the cost of environmental damage.

Should small island developing states consider similar legal remedies?

In 1800 before the Industrial Revolution, there were 280 parts per million of carbon in the atmosphere.

It has increased to 415 parts per million today from the burning of fossil fuels. Global carbon emissions are not decreasing. They are increasing worldwide at the rate of 2.5% per year. Drastic reductions in carbon emissions must be accomplished within 13 years to keep the Earth’s atmosphere from rising above 1.5 degrees Celsius, the tipping point beyond which the heating of the globe will become irreversible.

Ortigoni es una de sólo dos personas de la Florida seleccionadas para participar, y la única hispana del estado.

El JCOC, efectuado del 24 al 28 de junio de este año, es el programa de enlace público más antiguo y prestigioso del Departamento de Defensa de E.U. Gaby Ortigoni participates in Department of Defense program Orlando, FL - Gaby Ortigoni, President of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metro Orlando (HCCMO), was selected as part of an elite group of leaders to participate in the 91st Joint Civilian Orientation Conference (JCOC 91) hosted by the Secretary of Defense.

The JCOC is the Department of Defense’s oldest and most prestigious public liaison program. Established in 1948, it is the only Secretary of Defense-sponsored outreach program that enables American business and community leaders to have a full immersive experience with their military.

As a JCOC participant, Gaby Ortigoni spent several days at the Pentagon and military installations engaging in discussions with top military and Department of Defense’s officials.

Some of the JCOC activities included: A kick-off presentation by Mr. David L. Norquist, Chief Financial Officer and performing the duties of the Deputy Secretary of Defense at the Pentagon in Washington, DC; briefings and interactions with US and Canada commanders at the US Northern

Command and North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) in Colorado, participating in demonstrations and exercises with the US Army’s 4th Infantry Division in Fort Carson, Colorado; experiencing air combat training in Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada; an inside look at remotely piloted aircraft operations with the 432nd Wing at Creech Air Force Base in Nevada; witnessing tactical maritime precision of the US Coast Guard to protect our economy, and national security; experiencing the training required by the elite Navy Seals; and an inside look at what it takes to become a US Marine in San Diego, California.

After this full immersion program, Gaby gained a better understanding of the roles and mission of the U.S. Armed Forces; their skills, capabilities and equipment employed in defense of our nation. The JCOC program directly links to the Department’s Know Your Military (#KYM, #KnowYourMil) initiative, which is designed to help close the growing civilian-military divide by educating the American public about their military.

Osceola County, FL – On June 30, 2019, at approximately 4:40 P.M., three males attacked and battered a 7/11 employee while he was performing his duties. After other employees and Good Samaritans separated the subjects, the suspects began battering the victim again. The three male suspects are of medium complexion (possibly Hispanic) and were last seen entering a black 2-door coupe (possibly a Chevrolet Cobalt) with a spoiler on the back heading northbound into Orange County on Orange Blossom Trail.

The suspect has been described as a black male, 200lbs, 5’08”5’10”, with no facial hair, short black hair, and was last seen wearing a black bandana, shorts, black t-shirt, and slippers/slides. The suspect was armed with a silver and black handgun and fled the scene in a black 4-door sedan, possibly a newer model Nissan Altima, with tinted windows and after-market rims. The suspect vehicle, was observed leaving the complex at a high rate of speed.

Deputies found a victim, later identified as Harold Jones III D.O.B. 6/17/88, located in front of the building with an apparent gunshot wound. Jones was transported to Orlando Health Emergency and was pronounced deceased shortly thereafter.

The Junior Dolphins program encourages youth players and coaches to teach, learn and play football in a fun and safe environment.

The race started 60 years ago on the fourth of July as the Firecracker 250, now known as the Coke Zero Sugar 400. The date will be moved to August 29, 2020 and will be the last race before the playoffs. The Monster Energy Cup Series returns on Saturday night at Kentucky Speedway for the Quaker State 400.
