State of Osceola County Address announcements Osceola County, Florida –Osceola County hosted its annual State of the County Address and announced that several major land development projects, all bordering Osceola Parkway, are underway. “Osceola County is a wellpositioned, multidimensional community for residential, hotel, office, retail and medical developments,” said Tom Roehlk, Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer of Tupperware Brands Corporation. “These projects are helping to transform the county while supporting its current pace of growth.”

One of the largest land development announcements for the area, together the projects total more than $150 million primarily for land and building construction costs.

“This is an incredibly exciting time for our community. We are growing steadily and these new additions of the state-of-the-art medical facility, hotel and housing projects only will enhance the lives of Osceola County residents and reinforce our contributions to the overall development of Central Florida,” said Viviana Janer, Osceola County District 2 Commissioner.

Construction for phase one of the new Orlando Health medical facility is set to begin this fall and is expected to be completed by the end of 2018.

Phase one will feature a three-story 60,000 square foot emergency room and medical pavilion that includes a free-standing emergency department, provided as a service of Orlando Health’s Dr. P. Phillips Hospital. It will include more than 15 treatment rooms, an imaging department, ambulance bays and a helipad, along with parking and supporting infrastructure. Phase two could include up to 60,000 square feet of additional medical offices, surgery centers, and other health and wellness concepts.

Declaración de interrupción del tranvía de la Autoridad de Aviación de la ciudad Orlando Orlando, FL - Phil Brown, Director Ejecutivo de la Autoridad de Aviación de la ciudad Orlando (GOAA por sus siglas en inglés) emite la siguiente declaración sobre la interrupción del servicio de tranvía Automated People Mover (APM) desde el edificio de la terminal principal hacia el área 3 desde el que se puede observar las aeronaves.

"En nombre del Aeropuerto Internacional de Orlando, pido disculpas por las molestias a nuestros pasajeros por las interrupciones del APM (tranvía) del domingo y de hoy, 24 de abril. La seguridad y el servicio al cliente son nuestras principales prioridades para nuestros pasajeros y la Junta y el personal están extremadamente preocupados por asegurarse de que esas prioridades se mantengan. No hay justificación para que se produzcan interrupciones futuras”.

"Los nuevos APMs tienen muchas alarmas complejas y características de seguridad que pueden causar la anomalía más pequeña para requerir verificaciones del sistema por parte de Mitsubishi Heavy Industries America (MHIA) o de su personal de subcontratación en las

instalaciones. La última serie de interrupciones continúa ocurriendo porque esas anomalías las causan diferentes disparadores para alarmar.

La semana pasada fue un problema de comunicaciones y hoy fue el resultado de un error humano".

Greater Orlando Aviation Authority Tram Disruption Statement Orlando, FL – Phil Brown, Executive Director of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA) issues the following statement regarding the interruption of Automated People Mover (APM) tram service from the main terminal building to Airside 3.

“On behalf of the Orlando International Airport, I apologize for the inconvenience to our passengers for Sunday’s and today, April 24th, APM (tram) disruptions.

Safety and customer service are our top priorities for our passengers and the Board and staff are extremely concerned about making sure those priorities are maintained.

There is no justification for future interruptions to occur.”

“The new APM’s have many complex alarms and safety features that can cause the smallest anomaly to require system checks

by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries America (MHIA) or its subcontracting personnel on site. The latest series

of interruptions continue to occur because those anomalies cause different triggers to alarm. Last week it was a communications issue and today it was the result of human error.”

“We have had a number of meetings with MHIA and have elevated this matter to the highest level within their organization.

Mitsubishi is a global company with a global reputation and we have expressed our concerns verbally this afternoon. We are directing them to address these issues including adding additional technical staff at critical system positions during passenger operations. Mitsubishi has been on the premises since the inception of these issues and we are working closely with them on these interruptions.”

“Some may ask why not go back to the old trams? This is not an available option. New control technical systems and running surfaces have been installed which cannot be used by the old trams.”

Celebration High School – HOSA-Future Health Professional’s State Leadership Conference recognition Ten HOSA (Future Health Professionals) members from Celebration High competed and participated in the HOSA State Leadership Conference. There were over 3,100 students competing over the weekend, and they were only allowed to compete in one event.

All of the students did well enough in the first round to advance to the second round, which is a first for the

chapter. They were also awarded a Certificate of Recognition for their work for the National Service Project. Lynna Morris placed second in the Medical Math competition, and will advance on to the HOSA International Competition in June.

Veintiséis equipos y 75 aprendices de utilidades en toda la Florida se reunieron para reconocer a la profesión de la línea de trabajo y demostrar la seguridad, la habilidad y la resistencia de instaladores de líneas eléctricas. La competencia de estilo de rodeo consistió en cinco eventos cronometrados.

Hay dos niveles de competencia en el rodeo: equipos oficial y aprendiz.

El oficial los equipos consisten de tres miembros, dos escaladores y un trabajador tierra. Un jornalero cualificado cuenta con más de cuatro años de experiencia en el comercio de energía eléctrica. KUA linemen place second in Florida, lasso in the following event categories: 7 trophies at Rodeo Kissimmee, FL.– Kissimmee Utility Authority linemen placed second statewide and brought home seven trophies from 17th annual Florida Lineman Competition in Lakeland, hosted by the Florida Municipal Electric Association and Lakeland Electric.

Twenty-six teams and 75 apprentices from utilities throughout Florida gathered to recognize the profession of line work and demonstrate the safety, skill and endurance of electric linemen.

The rodeo-style competition consisted of five timed events.

There are two levels of competition in the rodeo: journeyman teams and apprentice. The journeyman teams consist of three members – two climbers and a ground worker. A qualified journeyman has more than four years of experience within the electric utility trade. An apprentice lineworker competes as an individual and has four or fewer years of experience in an apprentice program.

Puerto Rico - Noticias / News Cierra con éxito la Primera Cumbre de Alianzas Público Privadas

Successful closure of First Public Private Partnerships Summit which allowed investors to submit

San Juan, PR- Después de dos exitosos días, el P3 Summit Puerto Rico logró captar el interés de inversionistas locales e internacionales interesados en lograr acuerdos con el Gobierno en proyectos de Alianzas Público Privadas (APP).

La cumbre celebrada en el Centro de Convenciones Dr. Pedro Rosselló González, sobrepasó la asistencia esperada, contando con más de 850 personas e inversionistas extranjeros de Estado Unidos, España, Inglaterra, Australia, Hungría, Turquía, China, República Dominicana y Colombia.

El gobernador Ricardo Rosselló Nevares agradeció la labor del director ejecutivo de la Autoridad para las Alianzas Público Privadas, licenciado Omar Marrero y el interés de los inversionistas que comprueba que Puerto Rico está abierto para hacer negocios.

Por su parte, el director ejecutivo de la Autoridad para las Alianzas Público Privadas sostuvo que “la Administración del gobernador Rosselló Nevares tiene un compromiso inequívoco de ser facilitador”.

Marrero destacó que la ventaja de las APP es que los activos siguen siendo públicos y de Pueblo, mientras se ayuda a reducir el gasto gubernamental y se eleva la calidad de los servicios.

Asimismo, durante la cumbre se presentó el concepto de Alianzas Público Privadas Participativas, que permite a inversionistas presentar propuestas no solicitadas por el

Igualmente, se contemplan como posible APP la extensión de la autopista PR-22 de Hatillo a Aguadilla, un proyecto de gas natural en Palo Seco y San Juan y la operación y mantenimiento de aeropuertos regionales como el de Aguadilla y Ponce. Estos últimos, utilizando como ejemplo el Aeropuerto Internacional Luis Muñoz Marín, el cual se reconoció recientemente como el único modelo efectivo de un aeropuerto a través de una Alianza Público Privada en los Estados Unidos.

This model - driven by the governor from before the start of his administration - tries to stimulate local businesses and their ideas, and anticipates that PPPs will not only concentrate on large international companies.

Some of the topics discussed during the summit were energy, water, land transportation, maritime and aviation services, solid waste management, social infrastructure, technology and communications.

Projects already in the works are the development of a housing building at the University of Puerto Rico in Mayagüez, the automation of traffic fines, the concession of public parking facilities and the operation and maintenance of a ferry system which includes Vieques, Culebra and Cataño- San Juan.

Also, the extension of the PR-22 highway from Hatillo to Aguadilla, a natural gas project in Palo Seco and San Juan, the operation and maintenance of regional airports such as Aguadilla and Ponce are contemplated as possible PPPs. The Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport, was recently recognized as the only effective model of an airport through a Public Private Alliance in the United States.

Inmigración / Inmmigration USCIS expedirá tarjetas verdes y documentos de Autorización de Empleo rediseñados expedidos después del 1 de mayo de El Servicio de Ciudadanía e Inmigración de Estados Unidos (USCIS, por sus siglas en inglés) anunció hoy el rediseño de la Tarjeta de Residente Permanente (también conocida como “Green Card” o Tarjeta Verde) y del Documento de Autorización de Empleo (EAD, por sus siglas en inglés), como parte del proyecto Nueva Generación de Documentos de Identificación Seguros. USCIS comenzará a emitir las nuevas tarjetas rediseñadas el 1 de mayo de 2017.

Las Tarjetas Rediseñadas Las nuevas tarjetas: • Muestran la foto del beneficiario en ambos lados • Muestran una imagen principal y una paleta de colores únicas: • Las Tarjetas Verdes tendrán una imagen de la Estatua de la Libertad y en su paleta de colores predominará el color verde • Los EAD tendrán un águila calva y predominará el color rojo en su paleta de colores • Tendrán integradas y

• No tendrán la firma de la persona.

Cómo Saber si su Tarjeta es Válida Algunas Tarjetas Verdes y EAD

2017 aún podrían tener el diseño actual, ya que USCIS continuará utilizando el inventario de tarjetas que tiene disponible hasta que se agote. Tanto las actuales tarjetas como las nuevas Tarjetas Verdes y EAD continuarán siendo válidos hasta la fecha que indica la tarjeta.

USCIS will issue redesigned green cards and Employment Authorization documents U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services today announced a redesign to the Permanent Resident Card (also known as a Green Card) and the Employment Authorization Document (EAD) as part of the Next Generation Secure Identification Document Project.

USCIS will begin issuing the new cards on May 1, 2017.

The Redesigned Cards The new Green Cards and EADs will: • Display the individual’s photos on both sides; • Show a unique graphic image and color palette: • Green Cards will have an image of the Statue of Liberty and a predominately green palette; • EAD cards will have an image of a bald eagle and a predominately red palette; • Have embedded holographic images; and • No longer display the individual’s signature.

Also, Green Cards will no longer have an optical stripe on the back.

How To Tell If Your Card Is Valid Some Green Cards and EADs issued

after May 1, 2017, may still display the existing design format as USCIS will continue using existing card stock until current supplies are depleted. Both the existing and the new Green Cards and EADs will remain valid until the expiration date shown on the card.

Both versions are acceptable for Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, E-Verify, and Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE). Some older Green Cards do not have an expiration date. These older Green Cards without an expiration date remain valid. Individuals who have Green Cards without an expiration date may want to consider applying for a replacement card bearing an expiration date. Obtaining the replacement card will reduce the likelihood of fraud or tampering if the card is ever lost or stolen.

Created six years ago, OPBI has been essential to ensuring benefits go to qualified Floridians in need, recovering more than $134 million dollars since the programs inception.

Within OPBI, the Benefit Recovery Program focuses on maintaining the integrity of public assistance programs through accurate identification of overpaid benefits; acting as stewards for state and federal taxpayer dollars. Overpayments can be due to administrative error, client error, or fraud. Collection options to recover the public assistance funds include cash payments, online payments, intercepting Lottery winnings, the Treasury Offset Program and future benefit garnishment.

DCF continues to lead the country in recovering overpayments and as a result, Florida is eligible to retain a portion of the funds recovered in the Federal Grants Trust Fund. Over the last three years, OPBI has retained more in recoveries than the state spends to fund the program, netting a positive return on investment.

DCF’s Office of Public Benefits Integrity is responsible for investigating public assistance fraud or misuse regarding the SNAP (Food Assistance), TANF (cash assistance), and Medicaid programs by individuals or merchants.

OPBI is dedicated to preventing, detecting, and recovering waste, fraud, and abuse within the public assistance programs.

St Cloud - Noticias / News St. Cloud Fire Rescue presenta Fire Ops 101 para líderes del Condado de Osceola St. Cloud, FL – St. Cloud Fire Rescue (SCFR) presentó Fire Ops 101 el 22 de abril en el área del edificio de entrenamiento de SCFR. St. Cloud Fire Rescue hosts Fire Ops 101 for Osceola County leaders St. Cloud, FL – St. Cloud Fire Rescue (SCFR) presented Fire Ops 101 April 22 on the grounds of SCFR’s training building. Joining SCFR were International Association of Fire Fighters Local 4153, Osceola County Fire Rescue, International Association of Fire Fighters Local 3284, Kissimmee Fire Department and International Association of Fire Fighters Local 4208.

Members of Osceola County Board of Commissioners, St. Cloud City Council and City of Kissimmee Commission, along with City of St. Cloud’s and City of Kissimmee’s city managers and City of St. Cloud directors, participated in demonstrations and classes. Officials experienced a “Day in the Life” of firefighters, emergency medical technicians and paramedics.

“We wanted to present this program to help orient all of Osceola County’s elected officials and managers, and City of St. Cloud directors on operations in fire and emergency services,” said SCFR Chief Bill Sturgeon. “All participants received an overview of our equipment and capabilities and worked

together as teams to accomplish the mission at hand. We received great feedback on their experiences, which they all agreed – participation is much more effective than demonstration or expression.”

Almost 20 participants took part in the extrication of an “automobile crash victim” using the Jaws of Life, assisted in providing care to a “cardiac-arrest victim”, and participated in search operations under simulated fire conditions. They were also witness to a live-burn demonstration that showed how working smoke alarms and sprinklers save lives and how rapidly fire truly spreads.

While Fire Ops 101 was conducted in a controlled, safe environment featuring staged scenarios, all participants walked away with the reality of what firstresponders face on a daily basis. They were also reminded of the importance of supporting first-responders and of implementing the proper measures to ensure public safety for healthy communities.

The victim reported that Shawn Greaves, a teacher at the school, picked her up against her will and brought her into a closet within a classroom, where he battered her before she was able to leave. Based on the investigation by detectives, Mr. Greaves was arrested and booked at the Osceola County Jail on a warrant from this case for the charges of; Battery and Kidnapping. The Osceola County School District was notified of Mr. Greaves’ arrest and he has since bonded out of jail.

Osceola County, FLOsceola County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to an Armed Robbery at the Paws Hotel located at 1040 Plaza Drive in Kissimmee.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, just before 11:40 AM. Two males entered the Paws Hotel wearing hooded sweatshirts and after having a brief conversation with an employee, they drew handguns, pointing them at the employee and demanded money from the register. The males could flee the scene with an undisclosed amount of money. No one was injured in the incident.

That’s because they were treated to a unique sleepover party on the parquet floor.

The kids watched the game from a suite with food provided by Levy Restaurants. After the game, the kids met some of their favorite Magic players, shot around on the court, watched a movie on the jumbotron, played video games and more.

The children selected for this event were between the ages of 10-12 and they all belong to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Florida.

In March, the Magic held their annual OMYF Black Tie & Tennies Gala, which raises money for Central Florida youth. They also participate in countless other events that are designed to help kids live healthier and be more successful.
