UCF, Orlando and the state will benefit from this decision for decades to come.”, said UCF President John C. Hitt.

The new campus will bring students downtown to study degree programs that align with emerging industries downtown. Around 7,700 students will be living, learning, and working in downtown Orlando transforming the economic future of the City.

In partnership with Valencia College, the new campus will provide innovative education for high-demand fields that integrate with industry and place thousands of students within walking distance of jobs and interships.

Elecciones / Elections Primarias Presidenciales 2016 en el Condado Osceola y Orange Condado Osceola, FL El 40.18% de los votantes registrados (46,478) fue la cantidad de votantes en el Condado Osceola este pasado martes, 15 de marzo, para las Primarias Presidenciales del 2016. Bajo el Partido Republicano se reportaron 22,071 votos y el ganador fue Donald Trump con el 46.87% (10,345 votos). Por el Partido Democrático, 24,216 votos fueron reportados y la ganadora fue Hillary Clinton con un 68.19% (16,512 votos).

En todos los lugares donde hasta ahora se han realizado votaciones se ha roto récord de asistencia a las urnas. El Condado

2016 Presidential Primary in Osceola County and Orange Osceola County, FL A 40.18% of registered voters (46,478) was the voter turnout in Osceola County this past Tuesday, March 15, for the 2016 Presidential Primary. Osceola County - Noticias / News Osceola recibe $ 15 millones de fondos estatales para el Proyecto de sensores Condado Osceola, FL – Funcionarios del condado Osceola elogian un compromiso de $15 millones del Estado esta semana, que hará avanzar la meta de la región de convertirse en un centro multibillonario de alta tecnología para la investigación de manufacturación de sensores inteligentes.

Osceola Hails $15 Million Funding from State for Sensor Project Osceola County, FL – Osceola County officials praised a $15 million commitment from the State this week that will advance the region’s goal to become a multi-billion dollar high-tech hub for smart sensor manufacturing research.

The funds will be used for high-tech equipment for use in the Florida Advanced Manufacturing Research Center.

A public-private partnership between the county and several Florida Universities and business groups, the Center promises to create lucrative high-skill jobs and new capital investment in the burgeoning field of smart sensors. The project is not on the veto list and Gov. Rick Scott has approved the legislature's appropriation.

“We could not have done this without the partnerships we’ve built and the collective vision we’ve constructed over the last several years,” said Osceola Commission Chairwoman Viviana Janer. “The benefits are significant and far-reaching.

We’re thankful for the work that was done in Tallahassee to move this project forward. Our legislators and the Governor understand that this will help transform Florida’s economy and secure economic prosperity for generations of Floridians.”

County officials praised the leaders in the public and private sector who continue to stand behind a project that will provide needed jobs and revenue.

According to a recent Florida TaxWatch report, the project “grants Florida the unique opportunity to invest in an emerging manufacturing market that has great potential economic benefits for the state.” In coming years the market is projected to have a global market value of $32.5 trillion by 2025.

Construction is already underway and the International Consortium for Advanced Manufacturing Research, a 501 c-6 that will operate the facility, is making its presence felt in academics and industry. With a unique “ready-to-go project,” TaxWatch recommended that Florida invest public funding in high-tech manufacturing infrastructure.

Supporters for the project include: the University of Florida, University of Central Florida, University of South Florida, Florida International University, the Florida High Tech Corridor, the State University System, the Orlando Economic Development Commission, Enterprise Florida, the Mist Center, Harris Corporation and Novati Technologies Inc.

The poetry was read by the Mexican Consul in Orlando, Juan Sabines.

week the focus is on the candidates running for Osceola County Clerk of the Circuit Court.

Armando Rámirez (D) Electo en el 2012 como Secretario de la Corte del Noveno Circuito Judicial del Condado Osceola, es el primer Hispano-Americano en ocupar la posición en todo el Estado de la Florida, en aproximadamente 130 de su existencia. Es nacido y criado en Puerto Rico. Sirvió en el Ejercito de los Estado Unidos durante la Guerra de Korea y tuvo una carrera de 30 años como oficial de policía de la Ciudad de Nueva York.

Elected on 2012 as the Clerk of the Circuit Court for the Ninth Judicial Circuit of Osceola County, he is the first Hispanic-American that holds the position in the entire state of Florida in the approximately 130 years of its existence.

Ramirez was born and raised in Puerto Rico, served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and had a 30-year career as a police officer in New York City.

Sarcopenia, a Greek word that means loss of flesh, is the decrease in muscle tissue that comes with age.

Sarcopenia (pronounced sar-koPEEN-ya) begins early in life. Studies show that after age 40, most people lose about 1 percent of their muscle mass each year.

However, strength exercises—also called resistance training, weight training and weightlifting—can rebuild your muscles and provide many health benefits. Research funded by the National Institutes of Aging (NIA) shows that even people in their nineties get a lot out of weightlifting.

In one study at Tufts University in Massachusetts, nine women and men, ages 87 to 101, strengthened their arms and legs by exercising with weights. In eight weeks, they increased the strength in their front thigh muscles by an average of almost 175 percent.

Some studies have shown that, of all age groups, seniors benefit most from weightlifting.

65 to 79 found that subjects could walk almost 40 percent farther without a rest after 12 weeks of weight training.

• Relieve arthritis joint pain. Weightlifting can cut down on pain by strengthening the muscles around the arthritic joint.

Stronger muscles reduce stress on the joint.

You should always check with your doctor before starting a new exercise program. Weightlifting can be done at home with household items, but many health organizations recommend working out in a professional setting for maximum benefits. The number of facilities that cater to older adults is increasing.

Here’s a brief guide to exercise for seniors:

The American College of Sports Medicine recommends that adults age 50 and older work out with weights two to three times a week. The National Institute on Aging also recommends weight lifting for older adults.

Start out slowly with a pound weight, or no weight at all. You should feel challenged, but not close to your limits.

You may feel some normal muscle soreness at first. You should not experience exhaustion or pain.

Weightlifting can do the following for seniors:

Do strength exercises for your shoulders, arms, back, stomach, hips, legs at least twice a week.

• Prevent bone fractures. The exercises boost your strength, balance, and agility, making falls less likely. And, weightlifting can also build bone mass in the spine and the hip, so it's especially important for people with bone-thinning osteoporosis.

• Help you lose weight.

• Control blood sugar. In one study of adults with diabetes, 16 weeks of strength training provided dramatic improvements, comparable to improvements from taking medication.

• Relieve depression and improve sleep.

•Increase stamina. A University of Vermont study of healthy seniors ages

Avoid jerking or thrusting movements.

Don’t lock the joints of your arms and legs into a strained position.

Do 8-15 repetitions in a row of each exercise. Use smooth and steady movements. Once you can easily lift the weight 15 times, increase the amount of weight .

Take 3 seconds to lift or push a weight. Hold the position for 1 second, and then take another 3-5 seconds to lower the weight.

Exhale as you lift or push the weight, and inhale as you relax or lower the weight. Don't hold your breath during the exercises.

Attendance up! Carnival up! at the Osceola County Fair This year at the 72nd Annual Osceola County Fair & Kissimmee Valley Livestock Show we celebrated Heritage Pride, Community Wide, and our surrounding communities of Orange, Osceola, Polk,

and beyond showed up in amazing fashion. With over 110,000 attendees, and 14% more carnival riders than 2015, Strates Carnival Company and ourselves are so excited for the wonderful

response we got from the community. Our livestock sales were up significantly, which just reassures our belief and commitments to the Central Florida livestock and agricultural communities, with over $500,000 in awards and prizes given away over the course of our ten-day fair.

Beautiful weather, wonderful entertainers from Richard Barker the Incredible Hypnotist to Rosaire’s Racing Pigs, Paul Bunyan’s Lumberjack Show, The Sweeney Brothers Band, and so much more. Even new events, like the Florida State Clogging Expo, Telemundo’s Sports Night featuring some of Orlando’s best professional sports teams including, Orlando City Soccer, Orlando Magic, Orlando Predators, and Houston Astros who all graciously took over a section of the fair to provide entertainment and education about their teams. KUA Linemen Lasso 5 Trophies Kissimmee, FL – Kissimmee Utility Authority linemen brought home high marks and five trophies from Saturday’s 16th annual Florida Lineman Competition in Orlando, hosted by the Florida Municipal Electric Association.

Twenty-one teams and 60 apprentices from utilities throughout Florida gathered to recognize the profession of line work and demonstrate the safety, skill and endurance of electric linemen. The rodeo-style competition consisted of five timed events.

There are two levels of competition in the rodeo: journeyman teams and apprentice. The journeyman teams consist of three members – two climbers and a ground worker.

A qualified journeyman has more than four years of experience within the electric utility trade. An apprentice lineworker competes as

an individual and has four or fewer years of experience in an apprentice program.

Trophies were awarded to KUA linemen in the following event categories: Danny Kelly earned a perfect score in all five events and ranked fourth best apprentice lineman in Florida.

Austin Franey earned trophies in three separate apprentice events: first place in the pole top pin insulator change out and secondary spool replacement events, and second place in the hurtman rescue event.

Tony Nasco earned a second place trophy in the change out lamp and photocell event. Six of KUA’s linemen will now travel to Minneapolis, Minnesota to compete in the American Public Power Association’s Public Power Lineworkers Rodeo on April 2.

El evento tuvo lugar en el Complejo Administrativo del Sheriff del Condado Osceola.

Cada año, miles de residentes asisten al evento para conocer a los agentes y aprender más acerca de los departamentos de la Oficina del Sheriff.

Annually, thousands of residents attend the event to meet deputies and learn more about departments at the Sheriff's Office. This year, local businesses and non-profit organizations participated in

the day's activities with booths, which also included crime prevention and safety displays and demonstrations from various Sheriff's Office Specialty Units including K-9, Mounted Patrol and S.W.A.T. Activities such as moon walks and face painting were available for children. Tours of the Osceola County Emergency Operations Center and Osceola County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center were also given. The event was free and open to the public.

The City is also featuring an art exhibit created by a local artist Maria Barry. Barry’s colorful artwork depicts four different women and will be on display in the lobby of Kissimmee City Hall thru mid-April. Barry is president of Gallery One, the largest art gallery in Osceola County. She is a full time artist and uses her natural talent to teach classes to those she continues to inspire.

Sheriff - Noticias / News Sospechosos detenidos por varios robos en St. Cloud Condado de Osceola - Los detectives del Sheriff del Condado Osceola acusaron a Félix Francisco Pol-Birriel y Manuel Nicolás Rodríguez de 7 cargos de Robo Desocupado, 2 cargos de Robo Ocupado, 1 cargo de Robo Armado, Tráfico de Bienes Robados, Violación de la Ley del Prestamista y Daños a la Propiedad Ajena.

Desde mediados de enero, los agentes tomaron múltiples informes de robos residenciales en South Indiana Avenue, Clay Whaley Road, Absher Road, Sunset Road y Lake Gentry Road. En todos estos incidentes, se robaron objetos personales y electrónicos.

El Magic obtiene dos victorias y dos derrotas Orlando, FL - El viernes pasado, el Magic parecía lograr la victoria durante su viaje por carretera por la costa oeste cuando jugó contra los Kings de Sacramento. Orlando tuvo un gran comienzo llegando incluso a estar 14 puntos arriba en la primera mitad. Sacramento logró salir de su déficit. The Orlando Magic split a series of back to backs with two wins and two losses.

Orlando, FL Last Friday, the Magic looked to sneak in a win during their west coast road trip when they played the Sacramento Kings. Orlando got off to a great start even leading by as many as 14 points in the first half. Sacramento climbed their way out of the deficit. The Magic, led by Aaron Gordon, were able to win 107 to 100 over the Kings. Gordon had 20 points and 11 rebounds.

Jason Smith and Evan Fournier added 16 each. Victor Oladipo added 18 for the win.

The Magic played in Portland on the tail end of their west coast back to backs. The Magic left all they had to give in Sacramento. Despite getting off to a decent start, the Magic fell apart pretty quick. They played flat, defeated, and looked tired.

The blowout game couldn’t end fast enough. Oladipo had 18 points while Gordon added 17 but Orlando lost 121 to 84.

This was the fourth game Nik Vucevic missed and the second for Elfrid Payton who are both out with minor injuries.

Back in Orlando, the Magic hosted the Denver Nuggets this past Tuesday. Looking to redeem themselves, the Magic

played with confidence, great ball movement, and frankly looked extremely efficient on both ends of the court. Smith and Fournier led in the Magic’s win over the Nuggets. Fournier had 30 points; Smith had 25 points and 13 rebounds. The 116 to 110 win was a huge confidence booster for Orlando as they have struggled for years to maintain a lead, especially down the fourth quarter stretch.

Wednesday night, Orlando took a quick trip to Charlotte to face the Hornets. The Magic got off to a respective start in the first quarter but Charlotte bounced back in the second and took a commanding lead. What looked like it could be another blow out, turned around quickly when Orlando stepped on the court in the fourth quarter. Orlando chipped away at Charlotte’s 21 point lead but were unable to take the lead. The Hornets beat the Magic 107 to 99.

Tonight, the Magic take on Lebron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers at the Amway Center.

The Magic will play the following four games on the road before returning to Orlando to play the Chicago Bulls.

Orlando City draws again Orlando, FL - Orlando City played in front of just under 30,000 fans at the Citrus Bowl last Friday when they faced the Chicago Fire. Orlando looked to earn their first 3 points of the season in a win over Chicago but were never able to score the winning goal. Orlando did open the game with a quick point when Cyle Larin took advantage of an opportunity. In the third minute of play Kevin Molino found Larin who took a quick shot. The shot was rejected

by Chicago’s goalkeeper but Larin was there for the follow up and gave Orlando the lead. Chicago responded 11 minutes later when David Accam found himself in a one on one with Orlando’s own goalkeeper, Joe Bendik.

Accam was able to easily slide the ball past Bendik and equalize the match. In the 32nd minute of play, Orlando would find themselves with an advantage after Chicago’s Michael Harrington was red carded for a dangerous play against Brek Shea. Larin, Adrian Winter and Pedro Ribeiro all had close shots but were denied. Orlando and Chicago both came up short in the second half of the match and ended in a draw.

Orlando remains undefeated in the 2016 MLS season and has earned 2 points for their drawn matches. Orlando City traveled to New York to take on NYCFC. Both teams are in the second MLS season. Their next home match is April 3rd against the Portland Timbers.
