44 Local Children Find “Forever Families” on National Adoption Day Orlando, FL – In courthouses across Central Florida, on Nov. 18, 44 children were officially united with their new parents during adoption ceremonies in Orange, Osceola and Seminole counties. Ranging in age from toddlers to teens, the children were among nearly 4,000 kids who participated in National Adoption Day celebrations taking place across the country in November. Nine children were adopted in Osceola County.

“It was a special day for dozens of Central Florida children and families who officially became ‘forever families,’” said Glen Casel, CEO and president of Community Based Care of Central Florida (CBCCF), the lead agency overseeing foster care and adoption services locally.

“Since our inception in 2004, we’ve helped more than 2,400 children find their forever families. Bringing these families together and witnessing these adoptions is one of the most rewarding parts of my job.”

CBCCF is hoping to raise awareness of the number of children who still need permanent, loving homes. In the tri-county area, approximately 114 children in foster care are available for adoption – among thousands nationally.

“These are good kids longing for a family to bring them stability, safety and love,” said Casel.

Several community members attended the event to show their support, including the judges who oversaw the ceremonies in each county.

Osceola County’s “Exploration”themed event was sponsored by Expedia.

Brigada Anual de Acción de Gracias Osceola County, FL - La Rosa Realty celebró su 19no Anual Brigada de Cesta de Acción de Gracias el sábado, 19 de de noviembre de 2016, que proporcionó a familias en todo el Condado de Osceola con cestas de diversos productos alimenticios. Annual Thanksgiving Basket Brigade Osceola County, FL — La Rosa Realty held its 19th Annual Thanksgiving Basket Brigade on Saturday, November 19th, 2016 which provided families across Osceola County with baskets of various food items. The baskets were donated by staff, Illuminate Church, and community members who provided families in need with essential food items for thanksgiving.

The event was extremely successful, it more than doubled the number of baskets since 2015 with an impressive 516 baskets donated.

Illuminate Church graciously contributed 110 baskets and each basket was sent out to underprivileged families throughout Osceola County. La Rosa Realty stands by, “the secret of living is giving,” and believes all families deserve a thanksgiving meal.

Florida Technical College - Noticias / News "Comparta su amor durante el Día de Acción de Gracias" Orlando, FL - La Florida Central abrió sus brazos y corazones para dar la bienvenida, alimentar y proveer las necesidades esenciales a individuos y familias sin hogar en ‘Share Your Love During Thanksgiving’, un evento comunitario que se llevó a cabo el sábado, 19 de noviembre de 2016.

Florida Technical College staff and students joined members of Jubilo Orlando Community Outreach, Casa de Jubilo Church, and Serenity’s Gift of Love to deliver comfort and healing one heart at a time by providing a traditional Thanksgiving meal and a wide array of services and activities for the homeless.

The event, programmed for 11:30 a.m., got underway well ahead of schedule with over 400 attendees and an impressive group of volunteers.

“Our students and staff eagerly participate in a variety of community activities,” indicated Mike Zuccheri, Vice President of Operations at Florida Technical College. “We were pleased at the opportunity to join our community partners at this meaningful event and are very proud of our FTC family’s active participation.”

In addition to a delicious, hot meal, Share Your Love During Thanksgiving also provided clothing, generously donated by members of the community.

The abundant supply of clothing articles were quickly sorted and categorized by the volunteers.

Attendees were able to sift through the various articles to

select whatever they needed.

Haircuts and health services were also provided by students and faculty of Florida Technical College, as well as a Kid’s Zone which included a variety of fun activities. Live entertainment was provided by Casa de Jubilo Church Choir, New City Parramore Church, Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, and Ferdinand El Poético. DJ Alstar’s expert musical mix scored particularly well with the attendees who broke into spontaneous dancing to the popular tunes of the past and present.

Rev. Luis De Jesús Ginestre, Lead Pastor of Casa de Jubilo, took to the stage to welcome all attendees. An emotional part of his message involved an invitation to all veterans in attendance to step up to the stage where they were formally and publicly recognized for their service. Speaking at the day’s event, Rev. De Jesús stated, “It is a blessing and a calling to provide nourishment and essential services to our less fortunate neighbors. With this event we are able to care for their physical, emotional and spiritual needs, as well.”

The event, made possible by generous contributions of food, clothing, services and entertainment, resulted in a joyful gathering of community members, volunteers from the participating organizations, and homeless individuals and families, in a very special Thanksgiving event.

KUA to Conduct Solar Energy Survey Kissimmee, FL – In December, Kissimmee Utility Authority will conduct a random survey of its residential and commercial customers to gather their opinions about solar energy.

The survey will be conducted

by GreatBlue Research, Inc., a professional research firm located in Cromwell, Connecticut. The survey results will be vital in helping KUA understand the concerns and priorities of its customers and guide the utility in making decisions that best reflect the goals and future energy needs of the community.

2,500 Kissimmee Residents Give Thanks by Helping Others

For 25 years, Kissimmee Utility Authority’s Good Neighbor Utility Assistance Fund has provided emergency utility bill payment assistance to Kissimmee families facing temporary financial crisis. To further expand the fund, the utility in 2013 launched the Kissimmee RoundUp, a voluntary customer program which “rounds up” monthly utility bills to the next dollar, with all proceeds benefiting the fund. For example, a customer’s bill of $110.73 would be automatically rounded up to $111.00, with the additional 27 cents going to the fund.

Thanks to an outpouring of community support, the program hit the 2,500-donor milestone this week, collecting nearly $38,000 for the fund.

“The Kissimmee Round-Up involves pennies, dimes and quarters, which may seem like small change to you and I,” said KUA president and general manager Jim Welsh, “but multiplied by thousands of customers, it is small change that is making a big difference in our community.”

Customers wishing to participate in the program can opt to have their bills automatically rounded up each month or make a onetime donation to the fund.

The IRS must hold the entire refund — even the portion not associated with the EITC and ACTC — until at least Feb. 15.

This change helps ensure that taxpayers get the refund they are owed by giving the agency more time to help detect and prevent fraud. ''This is an important change as some of these taxpayers are used to getting an early refund," said IRS Commissioner John Koskinen. "We want people to be aware of the change for their planning purposes during the holidays. We don't want anyone caught by surprise if they get their refund a few weeks later than in previous years."

As in past years, the IRS will begin accepting and processing tax returns once the filing season begins. All taxpayers should file as usual, and tax return preparers should submit returns as they normally do. Even though the IRS cannot issue refunds for some

15, the IRS reminds taxpayers that most refunds will be issued within the normal timeframe: less than 21 days, after being accepted for processing by the IRS. The Where's My Refund? tool on IRS.gov and the IRS2Go phone app remains the best way to get this status of a refund.

As the IRS steps up its efforts to combat identity theft and tax refund fraud through its many processing filters, legitimate refund returns sometimes get delayed during the review process. While the IRS is working diligently to stop the issuance of fraudulent refunds, it also remains focused on releasing legitimate refunds as quickly as possible.

Recently, the Internal Revenue Service, state tax agencies and industry partners finalized plans for 2017 to improve identity theft protections for individual and business taxpayers. This comes after making significant inroads this year against fraudulent returns. Additional safeguards will be set in place for the upcoming 2017 filing season.

The IRS and its partners saw a marked improvement in the battle against identity theft in 2016. This is highlighted by the number of new people reporting stolen identities on federal tax returns falling by more than 50 percent, with nearly 275,000 fewer victims compared to a year ago.

Duke Energy - Noticias / News Duke Energy Florida implementa diseño amigable de conducción eléctrica para las aves San Petersburgo, FL - Duke Energy Florida ha desarrollado un programa piloto que ofrece un diseño de línea de energía que reduce al mínimo los riesgos para las aves. These improvements range from rebuilding the horizontal power lines to be vertical or stacked, to replacing poles to achieve adequate spacing. The redesigned elements will help prevent birds from getting in between lines and from perching and building nests on electrical lines and poles.

The changes will also help strengthen the grid and improve service and reliability. The avian pilot program is part of more than $500 million in system upgrades and improvements Duke Energy Florida is making this year to improve service and protect wildlife.

The company began the avian pilot program, which is currently being deployed on approximately 50 miles of distribution lines in Polk County, Fla., following an extensive data analysis.

Duke Energy Florida has been building new lines and retrofitting structures based on a comprehensive avian protection plan that’s been in place since 2009. Through the new avian

pilot program, however, the company is proactively targeting full lengths of power lines that were constructed before 2011 and others that may have a greater risk to birds, such as lines that are close to fish farms.

The power line design and building processes are based on recommendations from the Avian Powerline Interaction Committee and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

The pilot program, which is expected to be completed early next year, will be used as a baseline for developing additional programs throughout other Duke Energy Florida service areas, as needed.

Duke Energy Florida also recently announced awarding nearly $450,000 in grants to 12 Florida-based environmental organizations through its foundation. Orlando lucha para mostrar mejoría Orlando, FL - El Orlando Magic hizo algunos cambios en su alineación esta pasada semana esperando que el cambio funcionara. Orlando struggle to show improvements Orlando, FL - The Orlando Magic made some changes to their line up this past week hoping for a change that would work. The Spurs looked tired and the Magic wore them down even more.

Five of the Magic players scored in the double digits. Ibaka led with 18. Vucevic finished another night with a double double, 12 points and 10 rebounds. The 95 to 83 win was just what the Magic needed.

Their confidence was high and rightfully so. Tonight, the Magic will play in Philadelphia against the 76ers. They will play the Pistons and the Wizards on the road before returning home to host the Boston Celtics next Wednesday.
