Osceola Arts' actors bring home awards Gainsville, FL - This past weekend Osceola Arts participated in the 59th Annual Florida Theatre Conference at Santa Fe College in Gainesville, FL. Our teenage acting troupe, “The Centertainers”, participated in workshops offered by industry professionals from across the country and also performed and competed in the Theatre for Youth Festival with their production of Greek Mythology Olympiaganza! Centertainer members Jorge Jimenez and Jordan Green won Best Actor and Actress, respectively, for the entire festival! The cast of Osceola Arts' production of Extremities also attended the conference. They are the first group to represent Osceola Arts in the Community Theatre Play Festival, an opportunity Osceola Arts hopes
to continue in the future. The cast did an excellent job and received festival awards for Best Fight Choreography and Best Costumes. The goals of the Florida Theatre Conference are to celebrate the diversity of Florida Theatre, nurture communications among the various theatre constituencies, advance the highest possible standards of theatre, and encourage public appreciation of the art form. Nota del Consulado de Mexico Con motivo de las nuevas disposiciones ejecutivas del Presidente Barack Obama en donde se concede un permiso temporal para estar legalmente en los E.U. a diferentes grupos de personas, el Cónsul Efrén Leyva ofreció una Conferencia de Prensa para informar que el Consulado de México junto con diferentes grupos de abogados y organizaciones comunitarias entre las que se encuentran: Asociación Campesina, Federación de Hidalguenses, Casa Chiapas, Jacksonville Asociación de Mexicanos y otras, va a ofrecer asesoramiento gratis e información correcta de quienes son exactamente las personas que son elegibles para aplicar para estos beneficios y qué requisitos se necesitan.
El propósito de estas consultas podrá evitar que haya víctimas de estafas en otros lugares que ofrecen la tramitación de sus documentos a precios muy altos y sin tener los conocimientos necesarios pues muchas veces ni siquiera son elegibles para estos permisos. Se tiene contemplado que con este permiso se puedan legalizar hasta 5 millones de personas y se piensa que hasta un 75% podrían ser mexicanos, por tal motivo, en el Consulado de México se estará trabajando sábados, domingos y turnos extras para que todos puedan tener su documentación vigente y no sea este un requerimiento que no puedan cumplir aunque se cree que de los que podrían aplicar a estos beneficios solo lo harán unas 300 ó 400 mil personas.

Comunidad / Community En el Día Nacional de la Adopción 35 niños locales se unen con "familias para siempre" Orlando, FL - El 21 de noviembre, en juzgados a través de la Florida Central, 35 niños se unieron oficialmente con sus nuevos padres durante ceremonias de adopción en los Condados Orange, Osceola y Seminole. Con edades desde bebés hasta adolescentes, los niños estaban entre cerca de 4,500 niños que participaron en celebraciones del Día Nacional de la Adopción que tiene lugar en todo el país en noviembre. Catorce niños fueron adoptados en el Condado Osceola. “Fue un día especial para los niños y las familias que quedaron unidos oficialmente para siempre", dijo Glen Casel, CEO y presidente de Community Based Care de Central Florida, el principal organismo que supervisa los servicios de acogida y adopción a nivel local. "A medida que nuestra organización celebra su décimo aniversario, nos complace compartir que hemos ayudado a crear más de 1,000 familias para siempre - como estas hoy - desde nuestros inicios". 35 local children find “their families forever” on National Adoption Day Orlando, FL - In courthouses across Central Florida on Nov. 21, 35 children were officially united with their new parents during adoption ceremonies in Orange, Osceola and Seminole counties. Ranging in age from infants to teens, the children were among nearly 4,500 kids who participated in National Adoption Day celebrations taking place across the country in November. Fourteen children were adopted in Osceola County. “It was a special day for children and families who became officially bonded together forever,” said Glen Casel, CEO and president of Community Based Care of Central Florida, the lead agency overseeing foster care and adoption services locally. “As our organization celebrates its 10th anniversary, we’re pleased to share that we’ve helped create more than
1,000 forever families – like these today – since our inception.” Community Based Care is hoping to raise awareness of the number of children who still need permanent, loving homes. In the tri-county area, more than 90 children in foster care are available for adoption – among thousands nationally. “These are good kids longing for a family to bring them stability, safety and love,” said Casel. Several community members attended the event to show their support, including judges who oversaw the ceremonies in each county. “Important decisions are made every day in our community’s courtrooms, but it’s not often I have the opportunity to oversee an experience as significant as uniting families on National Adoption Day,” said Judge Keith A. Carsten, who presided over the ceremonies in Osceola County. “I am honored to be a part of this incredible moment that will forever change the lives of our local children and families.”
