Exitosa carrera anual de HBIF Tour Latino a ciclismo a beneficio de HBIF Success Orlando, FL – Bastante exitosa, desde el punto de vista eminentemente deportivo, resultó la carrera de ciclismo anual, “Tour Latino” a beneficio de El Fondo de Iniciativa para Negocios Hispanos de la Florida (HBIF), que se llevó a cabo el día domingo 15 de febrero, en las diferentes categorías y ramas.

Orlando, FL - The Hispanic Business Initiative Fund's anual Tour Latino was a huge sporting event and a major success beyond a doubt. Cyclists had fun participating in a variety of events on Sunday, February 15.

Durante tempranas horas de la mañana, ciclistas de diferentes nacionalidades, edades y niveles de expertise en la materia comenzaron a concentrarse en el “Waterfront Park” localizado en Clermont, donde se llevaría a cabo el tan esperado “Tour Latino”.

During the early hours of the morning, riders of different nationalities, ages and levels of expertise in the field began to get together on the "Waterfront Park" located in Clermont, where the long awaited "Tour Latino" took place.

Fue la Vice Presidenta del HBIF, en este caso Gaby Ortigoni, quien se encargó de dar el banderazo de las salidas, de esta justa ciclista que reunió más de 465 pedalistas, quienes se divirtieron e hicieron deporte en compañía de su familia, amigos y colegas.

It Vice President of HBIF Gaby Ortigoni who was commissioned to give the green light at this righteous cycling event where more than 465 riders gathered and had fun and rode with their family, friends and colleagues.

Oscela Valentine's Day Varias parejas se casan el Día de San Valentín Condado Osceola, FL - El pasado viernes, 13 de febrero, el Secretario de la Corte de Circuito del Condado Osceola, Armando R. Ramírez, llevó a cabo una ceremonia de boda en grupo en la Corte Histórica del Condado Osceola en Kissimmee.

Se realizaron tres ceremonias separadas en español, en inglés y para parejas del mismo sexo, según la petición de las parejas. Miembros de las familias y amigos de las parejas presenciaron el emotivo momento.

El secretario llevó a cabo las ceremonias junto a Milly Ramirez, su esposa.

Como en años anteriores, el secretario dispensó a las parejas de pagar la cuota regular de $30 por oficiar la ceremonia.

Un certificado de matrimonio especial, conmemorativo del evento, y una foto de cortesía se les enviarán a sus hogares dentro de una semana, a partir de la fecha de la ceremonia.

Un total de 28 parejas se juraron amor eterno en la tradicional ceremonia grupal del Dia de los Enamorados.

Couples get married on Valentine’s Day Osceola County, FL - Last Friday, February 13, Osceola County Clerk of the Circuit Court Armando R. Ramirez, hosted a group wedding ceremony at the Historic Osceola County Courthouse in Kissimmee.

Three separate Spanish, English and same-sex ceremonies were performed.The ceremonies were held in Spanish, in English, and one of Marriage Equality, as per couples request. Family members and friends

of the couples where able to witness the emotional moment.

The clerk performed the ceremonies and was joined by his wife Milly Ramirez.

Like last year, the clerk has waived the normal $30 fee to perform the marriage ceremony.

Couples will receive a special commemorative marriage certificate, along with a complimentary photo, which will be mailed within one week from the date of the ceremony with the official certificate of marriage.

Hannah Willard from Equality Florida presented Mr. Armando Ramirez with a recognition for his support after the marriage equality ceremony was performed.

Inmigración / Immigration Bloquean temporalmente aplicación de orden ejecutiva Washington, DC - Un juez del distrito federal en Texas concedió una medida cautelar bloqueando temporalmente la ejecución de los programas de alivio de inmigración creados a través de la acción ejecutiva del 20 de noviembre de 2014. Temporary blocking of executive order implementation Washington, D.C. - A federal district judge in Texas granted a preliminary injunction temporarily blocking the implementation of immigration relief programs created through executive action. The injunction is the result of a politically motivated lawsuit against the policies advanced through the use of prosecutorial discretion— the Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents (DAPA) program and the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program—will provide millions of American families with muchneeded relief from the deportation of a loved one. Despite judge decision, NCLR (National Council of La Raza) is confident that this ruling will not stand and encourages all eligible candidates for DACA expansion and for DAPA to continue preparing to

submit their applications. In addition, the original DACA program, for immigrants who came to the U.S. as children and teenagers, and are under 30 years old, remains in place and those eligible should continue to apply or renew their applications.

“We disagree with the court’s decision and believe a higher court will reaffirm the legitimacy of administrative relief, siding with countless legal scholars that the president was well within his authority to act,” said Janet Murguía, President and CEO of NCLR. Osceola County News Comisión del Condado enfocado en el avance de Osceola Condado Osceola, FL – El Presidente de la Comisión Brandon Arrington pronunció el jueves el Discurso Anual del Condado de Osceola, estableciendo una visión para un futuro ambicioso centrado en la creación de nuevas oportunidades para los residentes.

County Commission focuses on advancing Osceola

Osceola County, FL – Commission Chairman Brandon Arrington delivered the State of Osceola County address Thursday, laying out a vision for an ambitious future focused on creating new opportunities for residents.

Serving as community status report, the event included districtby-district presentations from county commissioners, updates from Experience Kissimmee, the Osceola County School District and the cities of Kissimmee and St. Cloud.

“We are advancing Osceola as we construct a framework for our future around Technology, Transportation and Tourism,” said Arrington. “We are focused on a mission to provide residents with opportunities for highpaying employment, educational improvement, a protected environment and a well-connected transportation system.”

The event was presented by the Central Florida Hotel & Lodging Association and the Kissimmee/ Osceola Chamber of Commerce.

Sponsors included: Benjamin Moore Paints, Experience Kissimmee, Gatorland, Old Town, Orlando City, PMS (Professional Marketing Solutions), UCF, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, and PSAV Presentation Services.

The Florida Advanced Manufacturing Research Center was a major focal point of this year’s address. The Center, a partnership with the University of Central Florida and others, is projected to create 20,000 direct high-tech manufacturing and research jobs in the next 10 years.

But Arrington also stressed success on the tourism front, including the start of a 10-year run of the RAM National Circuit Finals Rodeo. The PRCA event comes to Osceola for the first time March 25-28. Major infrastructure projects, a philosophy that encourages smart growth and investments in education were other notable successes.

“The state of Osceola is strong. And it is growing stronger every day,”

The 3rd annual State of Osceola was held at the Embassy Suites at Kyng’s Heath Road.

by VISIT FLORIDA, the state’s official tourism marketing corporation, 97.3 million visitors came to Florida in 2014, an increase of 3.9 percent over 2013.

This is the fourth consecutive record year for visitation to Florida, exceeding the previous high of 93.7 million in 2013. The number of direct travel-related jobs in 2014 was also a record high, with 1,135,700 Floridians employed in the tourism industry, up 3.6 percent from 2013.

VISIT FLORIDA estimates that 11.5 million overseas visitors and 3.8 million Canadians came to Florida in 2014, both of which are record highs and represent 2.6 percent and 2.4 percent increases over 2013 respectively. Valencia College News Valencia Osceola recibió 225 estudiantes de escuela elemental Kissimmee, FL - El viernes, 13 de febrero, unos 225 estudiantes de la escuela elemental Central Avenue visitaron Valencia en Osceola.

Se organizó un evento muy especial para que los estudiantes que están en el cuarto y quinto grado vieran el Recinto de Osceola.

Hubo un representante de Valencia, alumno, professor o empleado, sirviendo de acompañante por cada 2 niños visitantes. Se pudieron ver a muchos profesores alrededor del recinto pasando un tiempo de calidad con los estudiantes casi siempre de uno en uno por un periodo de dos horas.

Los estudiantes crearon tarjetas de San Valentín, aprendieron sobre fracciones utilizando la computadora, participaron en una demostración de como hacer helado con nitrógeno liquido, construieron torres en miniatura con palitos de madera, pudieron visitar las diferentes instalaciones del recinto y recibieron una camiseta de Valencia y una mochila con libretas donadas por Goodwill.

Valencia Osceola hosts 225 elementary school students Kissimmee, FL - Valencia College Osceola Campus hosted Central Avenue Elementary School students on Friday, February 13. A special event was organized so that 225 4th and 5th graders could see what college is actually like at Osceola Campus.

Every 2 elementary students were chaperoned by one representative from Valencia that was either a student, faculty or staff member. Many college professors were seen around campus spending quality time with the students on an almost one on one basis for 2 hours.

The students made Valentine ’s Day cards, learned about fractions on computers, watched a presentation upclose on making ice cream with liquid nitrogen, built miniature towers out of wood, got a grand tour of the campus, and received free t-shirts and bags with notebooks donated

by Goodwill.

23vo almuerzo de instalación de la Camara de Comercio Hispana Luego de un gran almuerzo la HCCMO Orlando, FL - La Cámara de Comercio Hispana del Área Metropolitana de Orlando (HCCMO por sus siglas en inglés) celebró su vigésimo tercer Almuerzo de Instalación en un evento especial celebrado en el elegante Rosen Shingle Creek Hotel de Orlando. Cientos de empresarios, líderes comunitarios y funcionarios electos fueron testigos de la toma de posesión del nuevo Presidente de la Junta Directiva, José Nido, Vicepresidente Global de Diversidad de Suplidores para Wyndham Worldwide Corporation, y la nueva Junta de Directores que estarán al frente de la organización en 2015.

Seguida de una cálida bienvenida por la Presidenta de la Cámara, Diana Bolivar, Rosen Hotels & Resort, Rosen Shingle Creek, CenturyLink, Orlando Health, Orlando Magic, Walt Disney World Resort, Wyndham Worldwide, OUC-The reliable One, PSAV, Resource Management, Inc., Royal Press and Vitas Healthcare, fueron reconocidos como los auspiciadores oficiales del evento.

Empecé a apoyar y trabajar con la Cámara en el 1996 cuando solo había una empleada, pocos cientos de miembros y ningún fiduciarios. Y aunque ha tenido muchos éxitos y metas cumplidas desde esos primeros días, no debemos volvernos complacientes,” dijo Nido. "Mi visión para el próximo año incluye incrementar el acceso a las corporaciones, asegurando que nuestros miembros vean claramente un retorno sobre su inversión, mejorar las relaciones con otras organizaciones de diversos negocios y seguir desarrollando la iniciativa de jóvenes profesionales", declaró el Sr. José Nido.

I started supporting and working with the Chamber in 1996 when there was one employee, a few hundred members and no Trustees.

Established in 2004, and endowed by the Hoffman Foundation in 2005, the program gives Florida college and university students the unique opportunity to work alongside state government’s top staff for two semesters.

Fellows are assigned to the Executive Office of the Governor and the Governor’s agencies, based on their major or area of concentration. Fellows work a minimum of 20 hours per week and are paid for their time on the job. Fellows will also receive tuition waivers from their college or university to cover the cost of their tuition as they continue their studies throughout the program year.

KUA News Subestación de Kissimmee alcanza nueva etapa en construcción Kissimmee, FL - El trabajo sobre la nueva subestación eléctrica de $17.2 millones de Kissimmee Utility Authority alcanzó una nueva etapa en su construcción la semana pasada con la terminación del edificio que albergará la subestación y equipos de apoyo.

En general, el proyecto de la subestación está completo en un 70 por ciento y está previsto para que entre en funcionamiento en julio del 2015.

The Roy E. Hansel Substation will replace the utility’s existing Power Plant Substation, a facility constructed on Kissimmee’s lakefront in the early 1970s.

The new substation, a Sulfur Hexafluoride (SF6) gas insulated design, is being built adjacent to the existing substation. Unlike the open-air design of the current substation, much of the new facility and supporting equipment will be housed inside a building to minimize the visual impact. In addition, existing transmission lines and distribution feeders will enter the substation underground improving overall aesthetics while reducing some of the exposure to outages from animal life.

The substation is the first of its kind in Osceola County, the second in Central Florida and the fourth in Florida.

The substation is named in honor of Roy E. Hansel, a third-generation resident of Kissimmee who ran the electric utility from 1943 until 1972.

HBIF Tour Latino 2015

HBIF TOUR LATINO >>> Viene de portada A las personas que participaron en el “Tour Latino” se les entregó una camiseta, su número de participante y abastecimiento de agua, powerade, bananas, granola, entre otros, durante el recorrido.

Los asistentes se dividieron en varias ramas, la de 25, 60 y 100 millas, los cuales se clasificaron de la siguiente manera: hombres menos de 30 años, 30 a 39 años, 40 a 49 años, 50 a 59 años, 60 años en adelante. Lo mismo para las mujeres.

Al terminar el recorrido, los pedalistas pudieron disfrutar de un ambiente latino; torneo de domino, exhibidores, música del DJ Sandy Silva y una deliciosa comida gracias a Zaza New Cuban Diner.

La ceremonia de premiación estuvo a cargo del presentador de Univisión, Paul Gamache; también intervinieron

el Presidente y Director Ejecutivo de HBIF, Augusto Sanabria, quien agradeció a todo los asistentes el apoyo brindado. Por otro lado, los invitados especiales, Hector Picard y Maria del Pilar Vázquez, entregaron los estímulos correspondientes a ciclistas más destacados conforme a la convocatoria respectiva y los premios a los ganadores de las rifas.

Cabe destacar que los ganadores por mejor tiempo de las categorías de 100 y 60 millas recibieron una medalla como reconocimiento por su participación y esfuerzo demostrado durante la carrera.

Detienen sospechosa de tres casos de Acoso Sexual Un individuo se acercó a los agentes Condado Osceola - Los detectives del Sheriff del Condado Osceola arrestaron a Jennifer Espinoza y la acusaron de tres cargos de acoso sexual y un cargo de agresión sexual.

Father arrested for Child Abuse St. Cloud, FL – On February 14th, 2015, at approximately at 2:27 p.m., members of the St. Cloud Police Department responded to St. Cloud Library; located at 810 13th Street, after receiving a 911 call regarding unattended infant locked inside of a vehicle.

Upon arrival, Officers discovered an 11 month old male in the rear seat of a vehicle. The child’s father, C. Shannon Koetters was inside the library with a friend. The temperature inside the vehicle was measured at over 100 degrees. The infant was transported to Nemours Hospital for precautionary reasons.

Based on the above investigation, Koetters violated Florida State Statute 827.03(2)(C)/ Child Abuse. Koetters was arrested and transported to the Osceola County Jail where he was held with a $1,000 bond.

An individual approached deputy with information that Espinoza may have inappropriately touched 4 male juveniles. Deputies spoke with the juveniles, ages 14-16. They told deputies over the past few weeks, Espinoza sent them explicit text messages and on at least one occasion, inappropriately touched each of them. All four juveniles recounted similar stories. They were too embarrassed to tell their parents.

Once the parents were notified, they indicated they wished to prosecute.

Espinoza was brought in for questioning. She initially did not cooperate with the investigation, but later did admit sending text messages and inappropriately touching the juveniles. Espinoza was arrested and booked into the Osceola County Jail.

Orlando, FL - El Orlando Magic disfrutó de una semana de descanso durante el receso del Juego de Estrellas. Sólo Elfrid Payton y Víctor Oladipo fueron seleccionados para participar en los eventos. El base novato, Elfrid Payton, fue seleccionado para jugar en el Reto de las Estrellas Emergentes, donde los jugadores novatos y de segundo año juegan uno contra el otro. También fue seleccionado para reemplazar a un jugador lesionado, Michael Carter-Williams, en el Desafío de Habilidades.

Orlando, FL - The Orlando Magic enjoyed a week off during the All-Star break. Only Elfrid Payton and Victor Oladipo were selected to participate in events. Rookie point guard, Elfrid Payton, was selected to play in the Rising Stars Challenge where rookie and sophomore players play against one another. He was also selected to replace an injured player, Michael Carter-Williams, in the Skills Challenge.

Oladipo also played alongside Payton in the Rising Stars Challenge. Both played for team USA. Payton finished the game with 2 points, 3 assists and 3 rebounds. Oladipo played like he was out to prove something. The sophomore finished the game with 4 assists, 4 steals, 3 rebounds, and tied for highest scorer with 22 points. He was plenty warmed up by Saturday night.

Oladipo went all out in this year’s Dunk Contest. One of my biggest concerns with his play is how flashy he attempts to be but this contest was the perfect place for Oladipo to display that showmanship.As Oladipo was announced to the crowd, he serenaded them by showing love to New York singing Sinatra’s “New York, New York”.

His first dunk attempt scored a perfect fifty but it’s not every day that you see the smallest contestant in a dunk contest slam down a 540 dunk. Oladipo

completed the incredible thrill on his third and final attempt. Oladipo made it to final round against rookie Zach Lavine but was unable to take home to win.

Both players successfully made names for themselves at this year’s All-Star weekend and have shown a positive future for the Orlando Magic. That future is still too far for many Magic fans to grasp. The trade deadline came and went and the Orlando Magic did not make any moves. Although names like Andrew Nicholson and Maurice Harkless were rumored, no action happened.

The team did announce that Interim Coach James Borrego would coach Orlando for the remainder of this season. Expect moves to be made in the off season, especially on draft night.

Many teams in East made moves that enhanced their playoff chances. The Magic are looking at another hopeful night in the draft lottery where Orlando will look to inquire an early pick.
