Orange Star - Noticias / News Líderes de la Florida Central anuncian la iniciativa "Héroes Regresan a Casa" Orlando, FL - La Comisión sobre la Indigencia de la Florida Central (CFCH, por sus siglas en inglés) en colaboración con el Departamento de Asuntos de Veteranos, el Municipio de Orlando, los gobiernos de los condados Orange, Osceola y Seminole, la Red de Servicios al Indigente y Heart of Florida United Way, llevó a cabo una conferencia de prensa el miércoles 19 de agosto para anunciar su iniciativa "Héroes Regresan a Casa" que esbozará los próximos pasos a seguir después de finalizar el programa "Veterans Surge".

Esta iniciativa permite la continuidad de los esfuerzos de la región de erradicar la indigencia en el 2015. Siguiendo la iniciativa del presidente Obama de ofrecerle a cada veterano que vive en las calles un lugar para vivir, el plan colaborativo garantizará que esta meta se materialice en la Florida Central. Durante el evento se dirigieron a los presentes el alcalde de Orlando Buddy Dyer, y la alcaldesa del Condado Orange Teresa Jacobs.

"Durante el período de una semana el mes pasado, cientos

de voluntarios dedicaron más de 2,000 horas a recorrer las calles de la Florida Central y a buscar en los bosques en un esfuerzo por identificar a los veteranos sin hogar de nuestra región. Me uní a los voluntarios para participar en la "Oleada de Veteranos", el primer esfuerzo de nuestra región a gran escala para identificar y rescatar a los veteranos sin hogar, que encontró 418 veteranos en necesidad de servicios y de un hogar permanente.

Armado con estos nuevos datos y la información en profundidad, me uní con la Alcaldesa del Condado Orange, Teresa Jacobs y otros líderes de la comunidad para anunciar cinco metas y estrategias claras para poner un enfoque de láser sobre la vivienda a nuestros veteranos. Central Florida Leaders announced “Heroes Come Home” initiative Orlando, FL - The Central Florida Commission on Homelessness (CFCH), in partnership with the Department of Veterans Affairs, City of Orlando, Orange County Government, Osceola County Government, Seminole County Government, Homeless Services Network, and Heart of Florida United Way, will hold a press conference on Wednesday, August 19, to announce its “Heroes Come Home” initiative, which will outline the next steps after completing the Veterans Surge.

This initiative continues the region-wide effort to end Veterans homelessness in 2015. Answering President’s Obama’s mandate to get every Veteran living on the streets into housing, the collaborative plan will ensure that this goal is met in Central Florida. Speaking at the event will be City of Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs.

“Over a period of a week last month, hundreds of volunteers dedicated more than 2,000 hours to walking the streets of Central Florida and searching the woods in an effort to identify our region’s homeless veterans. I joined volunteers to

Osceola County - News El Condado anuncia prueba del Sistema de Alerta de Inundación sólo actuará sobre los números Condado Osceola, FL - La oficina del Condado Osceola de Recursos Naturales y la oficina de Manejo de Emergencias realizará una prueba del Sistema de Alerta de inundación entre el 5 de septiembre de 2015 y el 10 de octubre.

El propósito es poner a prueba la capacidad de alerta del condado a los residentes en zonas con riesgo especial de inundación. Esta prueba forma parte de los criterios del Sistema de Clasificación Comunitaria (CRS, por sus siglas en inglés) que trae menores tasas de seguro de inundación a los ciudadanos. La prueba incluirá a los residentes en la Ciudad de Kissimmee y en la Ciudad de Saint Cloud.

Los residentes en las áreas de riesgo de inundación especial recibirán un mensaje corto. Se indicará en el mensaje; esta es una prueba, seguida por información sobre lo que ocurrirá si la alerta en algún momento es necesaria. Puesto que el sistema

de teléfono listados como públicos, no todo el mundo recibirá este mensaje.

En caso de una emergencia real, el sistema llamará a todos los números de teléfono, incluyendo los enumerados como privados.

County Announces Test of Flood Alert Warning System Osceola County, FL - The Osceola County Office of Natural Resources and the Office of Emergency Management will conduct a test of the Flood Alert Warning System between September 5, 2015 and October 10, 2015.

The purpose is to test the County’s alerting capability for residents in special flood hazard areas. This test is part of the Community Rating System criteria, which brings lower flood insurance rates to the citizens.

The testing will include residents in both the City of Kissimmee and the City of St. Cloud. esidents in the special flood hazard areas will receive a short telephone message. The message will state that it is a test, and will be followed by information on what will occur should alerting ever be required.

Since the test system will only contact

phone numbers listed as public, not everyone will receive this message.

In the event of a real emergency, the system will call all land line telephone numbers, including those listed as private.

The testing ensures the County has a viable way to notify residents through the County Mass Notification System. In the past, some have referred to this system as a Reverse 911 system; however, that name is a brand of alerting systems.

St. Cloud Fire Rescue personnel remind motorists to keep safety in mind St. Cloud, FL – St. Cloud Fire Rescue personnel conducted a back-to-school safety awareness event called Operation Safe Start Aug. 24-26 near several St. Cloud

schools. Personnel stood near several highly traveled roadways holding signs to remind motorists that school is back in session and to slow down.

Osceola County School Board Launches Superintendent Search Webpage and Online Community Input Survey Osceola County, FL A priority of the Osceola County School Board is to engage the community in the process of selecting a new Superintendent.

In addition to the Community Input Sessions being hosted by Board members throughout the county in August, a new webpage at http://osceolaschools.net/ has been created to keep the entire community informed throughout the Superintendent Search process.

The webpage includes important information, such as the search timeline, brochure, and minutes from the Community Input Sessions.

On the Superintendent Search webpage, a link can also be found to the School Board’s online survey for residents to provide feedback on the characteristics and qualities desired in the new Superintendent.

All parents, students, community residents, and school district employees are encouraged to fill out the brief survey. The input gathered will be used by School Board members to assist them in their search for a Superintendent to take the district on the next leg of its journey to greatness. The online survey will close on November 6, 2015.

St. Cloud - Noticias / News Jefes de policía y bomberos de St. Cloud hablan sobre crecimiento poblacional y su preocupación por la seguridad pública St. Cloud, FL – El Jefe de Bomberos de St. Cloud William Sturgeon y el Jefe de la Policía de St. Cloud Pete Gauntlett se unieron para hacer una presentación al Concilio de la Ciudad de St. Cloud el 20 de agosto durante un taller regular en la alcaldía.

Sturgeon y Gauntlett hablaron sobre el crecimiento de la población continuo y la necesidad de personal e infraestructura proyectada para poder continuar con servicios de seguridad pública eficientes.

St. Cloud fire and police chiefs discuss population growth a public-safety issue St. Cloud, FL – St. Cloud Fire Rescue Chief William Sturgeon and St. Cloud Police Department Chief Pete Gauntlett joined to make a presentation to St. Cloud City Council Aug. 20 during a regular workshop held at City Hall.

Sturgeon and Gauntlett discussed the city’s continuous growing population and the projected staffing and infrastructure needs to be able to continue efficient public-safety services. The two chiefs provided council with a historical overview, a site-plan review, service and safety concerns, a joint analysis, the design firm’s recommendations, and the publicsafety vision for the future. St. Cloud is now the 83rd largest incorporated city in Florida. The two chiefs discussed their services and safety concerns in reference to today’s population of 41,316 and the projected population growth of 49,000 to 60,000 in the next five years.

“Bill (Sturgeon) and I are committed to providing the best public-safety services to this community,” Gauntlett explained, “but, our current building, which was established in 1999 as a public-safety complex when the city had a population of 19,000 residents, can no longer be expanded. We have 80 sworn police officers, a dispatch center, and support personnel and we have simply run out of space. We will need 107 police officers at the minimum projected population of 49,000 in the next few years, which will also require additional support personnel and the proper infrastructure.”

To accommodate future needs, Gauntlett explained the proposed project that will allow for an invigorated police headquarters complex and the restructuring of the current police department building into a brand new fire administration building.

“Our 911 call center for police, fire, and medical receives about 230 calls a day,

and calls have been increasing year-toyear,” explained Sturgeon. “We will need a minimum of 15 additional personnel when we reach the minimum projected population of 49,000. We also need to relocate Fire Station #33, which is now housed in a mobile-home structure. The proposed project would allow for a move of our administrative offices to the current police department building, where we will have room for the fire station. We have also purchased the property on Friar’s Cove for a fourth fire station. We are properly recommending that we increase staff based on growth, call volumes increase, and the risks that we are starting to see. We will need the infrastructure to support the increase in staff as well.”

Sturgeon and Gauntlett, who have 70 years of combined experience in public safety, explained to council that 63 percent of the fire and medical receives calls are now overlapping (simultaneous calls). They reiterated the importance of realizing how this creates a public-safety issue and also the economic impact of what losing a commercial building or a house to a fire would mean for the city.

“We appreciate the detailed information that the chiefs presented to council,” said Mayor Rebecca Borders. “Recognizing these issues is critical to the future of our city and it is our responsibility as a council to direct staff in the right direction and ensure they are funded properly. These statistics presented clearly showed us that we as a municipality may quickly fall behind in being able to provide effective public-safety services if we don’t make the right decisions. Statistics show that we absolutely need more staffing and additional buildings to keep up with current and future demands in public safety.”

Estas estadísticas presentadas claramente indican que nosotros, como municipio, podemos quedarnos atrás rápidamente en poder proporcionar servicios de seguridad pública eficaces si no hacemos las decisiones correctas. St. Cloud mayor hosts ‘coffee and conversation’ event featuring Positively Osceola St. Cloud, FL – St. Cloud Mayor Rebecca Borders has hosted three Coffee and Conversation with the Mayor events and local residents and business owners have enjoyed coffee, casual conversation, and question & answer sessions.

Each Coffee and Conversation with the Mayor features a special guest and the guest for the Aug. 21 event was Keith Ronan, a 25-year St. Cloud resident and a local business owner. The Elijah Web Solutions owner and his staff, who work with several local organizations, including St. Cloud Chamber of Commerce, Community Vision, and

Osceola Council on Aging, are now working on a new project – the Positively Osceola. This is a new website that will help highlight the great things that happen in Osceola County.

Coffee and Conversation with the Mayor is an opportunity for people to learn about what is going on within the city and the municipality and to talk with the mayor outside of City meetings.

Coffee and Conversation with the Mayor is free and open to the public. The next events are scheduled for Sept. 18, Nov. 20, and Dec. 18. The casual gathering begins at 7:30 a.m., City Hall Courtyard (City Hall Bridge in the event of inclement weather).

México ampliará protección para trabajadores temporales en EU México busca ampliar sus esfuerzos para proteger los derechos de trabajadores temporales mexicanos en Estados Unidos con convenios de cooperación similares al firmado el año pasado con California, anunció el secretario del Trabajo, Alfonso Navarrete Prida.

“La idea es que los consulados mexicanos tengan una herramienta más para la defensa de los connacionales”, explicó Navarrete a Notimex al término de una reunión de trabajo privada que celebró en Washington con su colega estadunidense Thomás Pérez.

El funcionario dijo que el acuerdo, iniciativa del gobernador de California, Jerry Brown, va bien encaminado y que su oficina ha concluido ya la primera revisión de las propuestas de las empresas que contratan a trabajadores mexicanos temporales en ese estado.

“Esto debe seguir evolucionando para que podamos en breve terminar de equiparar las normas de capacitación y de movilidad laboral que permitan tener certeza de que el trabajador mexicano que ingrese a los Estados Unidos será respetado absolutamente en sus derechos laborales”, enfatizó.

“El entiende perfectamente también que la voluntad del gobierno de México es dar una amplia protección de tutela a los trabajadores mexicanos que tenemos (aquí)”, puntualizó.

Navarrete Prida calificó como excelente su encuentro privado con Pérez en la sede del Departamento del Trabajo en Washington, que se prolongó por espacio de casi dos horas, y donde hicieron un repaso de los temas de la agenda laboral bilateral.

Uno de estos se refiere a un estudio recíproco para la integración de legislación y de normas que atiendan la equidad de género e igualmente se hizo un repaso de los temas laborales relacionados con el Acuerdo Transpacífico o TTP.

El acuerdo con California se refiere a los trabajadores mexicanos que ingresan cada año a Estados Unidos a trabajar de manera temporal amparados con visas de trabajo H2A y H2B. La intención del gobierno mexicano es ampliar está cooperación con otros estados.

Mexico extended protection for temporary workers in the United States

"The idea is that Mexican consulates have a tool for the defense of Mexican citizens," said Navarrete Notimex following a private working meeting held in Washington with his US counterpart Tomas Perez.

The official said the agreement, an initiative of the governor of California, Jerry Brown, is on track and that his office has already completed the first review of the proposals of the companies that hire temporary Mexican workers in that state.

"This should continue to evolve so that we can soon match the standards and labor laws that will allow Mexican workers to enter the United States and be absolutely respected in their labor rights," he said.

The agreement with California refers to Mexican workers admitted each year to the United States to work temporarily covered with H2A and H2B work visas. The Mexican government's intention is to expand this cooperation to other states.

"We are very interested in establishing agreements with Florida, Texas, Arizona, and although Governor Brown said that this was a decision of the other governors, bilateral cooperation on labor mobility is the global phenomenon of our times, "said Navarrete.

Perez said the secretary "understands that the safety and protection of workers is a priority in any legal system."

"He understood perfectly well that the government of Mexico is to provide broad protection to protect Mexican workers here," he said.

Navarrete Prida said it was an excellent private meeting with Perez at the headquarters of the Department of Labor in Washington, which lasted for nearly two hours, where they reviewed labor issues on the bilateral agenda.

One of these relates to a reciprocal study for the integration of legislation and rules that address gender equity and also a review of the labor issues related to the Trans or TTP Agreement.

"We have been talking intensively so that each country can in turn send their respective congresses the strongest possible proposal (...) so that we can have the best of the free trade agreements, which is the future of the world" he said.

During the meeting, Navarrete Prida Perez extended an invitation to attend next November in Mexico the meeting of Ministers of Labor of the Organization of American States (OAS), of which he is president pro tempore.

At the meeting to be held in Cancun, nations will discuss issues such as good labor practices, combat informality, eradication of child labor, increased productivity and progress in the signing of fundamental agreements of the International Labour Organization (ILO) .

"No doubt in the friendliness of the countries, its purpose and objective is to go in that direction, in the concrete advances that allow us to have a fairer and more egalitarian labor market," said Mexican Secretary of Labor.

CITY OF KISSIMMEE ANNOUNCES SCHOOL OF GOVERNMENT PROGRAM The City of Kissimmee Public Information Of ce is now accepting applications for its School of Government Program. This program is designed to provide residents with a rst-hand look at their City government.

This free program is open to residents, 18 years-of-age or older, who live or own a business within the City of Kissimmee limits. Each week, participants learn about different City departments through a series of hands-on activities, demonstrations, or tours.

The interactive program runs for seven consecutive Thursday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. beginning October 1st and ending with a graduation ceremony on November 12th.

Since its inception in Spring of 2000, more than 200 residents have graduated from the City of Kissimmee School of Government. Some of the graduates have lled positions on the City’s advisory boards and volunteer committees; while others have gone on to serve the City in an elected position.

KUA - Día de Apreciación del Instalador en Florida Kissimmee, Fl. - Kissimmee Utility Authority celebró con orgullo el Día de Apreciación del Instalador el 26 de agosto en honor a los hombres y mujeres calificados y valientes de toda la Florida que trabajan con miles de voltios de electricidad en lo alto de los postes de electricidad y las líneas para entregar energía segura y confiable.

En 2012, la Cámara de Representantes de la Florida presentó una resolución en honor a los hombres y mujeres en la Florida que trabajan como instaladores, para observarse el 26 de agosto de cada año. Sheriff & Police - News Detienen tres sospechosos por secuestro y robo, arrestan víctima por posesión de sustancias controladas Condado Osceola - El 22 de agosto, aproximadamente a la 1:50 p.m., los agentes del Sheriff del Condado Osceola respondieron a la zona de North Bass Road y Vine Street West en Kissimmee. Se reunieron con oficiales del Departamento de Policía de Kissimmee quienes indicaron que un individuo, Luis Rolando KuilanDelhoyo les informó que él y su familia habían sido secuestrados en el Rodeway Inn Motel. Los agentes hablaron con Kuilan quien dijo que el día anterior, él compró heroína de un individuo que conocía como "Selle", posteriormente identificado como Pedro Luis Martí-Carrión en el Rodeway Inn Motel. Que le dijo a Martí que no tenía el dinero, pero le pagaría $40 después. Más tarde esa misma noche, Martí se le acercó en el motel y le exigió a Kuilan que lo siguiera a su habitación. 96 Armas se recogieron en evento ‘Gasolina por Armas’ Condado Osceola, FL - El jueves 20 de agosto, la Oficina del Sheriff del Condado Osceola, en conjunto con la Línea del Crimen organizó un evento bajo el programa Gas for Guns (“Gasolina por Armas”) que resultó en la entrega de 96 armas. Three suspects arrested for Kidnapping and Robbery, victim arrested for Possession of Controlled Substances Osceola County - On August 22, at approximately 1:50 p.m., Osceola County Sheriff deputies responded to the area of North Bass Road and West Vine Street in Kissimmee. They met with Kissimmee Police Department officers who indicated an individual, Luis Rolando Kuilan-Delhoyo reported to them he and his family had been kidnapped at the Rodeway Inn Motel.

Deputies spoke with Kuilan who said the day before, he purchased Heroin from an individual he knew as “Selle,” later identified as Pedro Luis MartiCarrion at the Rodeway Inn Motel. He told Marti he did not have the money, but would pay him $40 later. Later that that night, Marti approached him at the motel and demanded Kuilan follow him to his room. While in the room, Marti battered Kuilan and threatened to hurt his girlfriend and two children, ages 1 and 2, who were also staying at the Rodeway Inn Motel. The next day, an accomplice, Rafael Jose Vargas-

Teron, forced Kuilan to drive him to a local store, while Marti and Raul Rivera stayed with Kuilan's girlfriend and children at the motel.

While Kuilan was reporting this incident, he saw his girlfriend's car driving by. Deputies conducted a traffic stop and located Marti and Rivera in the vehicle with Kuilan's girlfriend and his two children. The girlfriend told deputies she was not forced to go with the men.

Deputies contacted the Department of Children and Families who called the children's mother. She arrived and took custody of the children. Based on the information, Marti, Vargas and Rivera were arrested and charged with Robbery, Kidnapping and Criminal Conspiracy. Marti was also charged with Petit Theft. The victim, Kuilan, was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Marti, Vargas, Rivera and Kuilan were booked into the Osceola County Jail.

Orlando se enfrentó al Toronto FC en el BMO Field Orlando, Fl - ¿Qué le está pasando a Orlando City a estas alturas de la temporada? ¿Cómo pueden terminar con una buena clasificación? ¿Qué puede el entrenador Adrian Heath sacar de estos chicos? Después de otra derrota por paliza dolorosa, Orlando tiene pocos partidos por jugar para cambiar las cosas de vuelta. Pocos playoffs quedan fuera de su alcance, Orlando necesita desesperadamente para ganar o por lo menos sacar algo de sus partidos finales. The team played in a friendly match against Louisville Tuesday night. The 3-1 loss was anything but a confidence booster. Orlando’s reserves played the majority of the match but still struggled to find the back of the net. Eight games remain for the regular season. There is still a chance Orlando can make their way into the playoffs. This weekend the Lions will take on the Chicago Fire at the Citrus Bowl. A win this weekend is much needed for a playoff push.
