Dredging operations are expected to last until late April 2022, barring weather and unforeseen events. The project includes laying of dredge pipes in Shingle Creek from the shoal in Lake Toho to the spoil disposal site on Lancaster Ranch Park. Shingle Creek will be closed to all but official and emergency navigation traffic from just west of John Young Parkway to Lake Toho from October 18, 2021 to April 30, 2022. Total closure time will be based on weather and contractor need.

Boaters are urged to please take any appropriate actions related to your watercraft currently or planned to be moored in Shingle Creek. The shoal was created by sediments carried downstream to the lake by Shingle Creek. This is a natural process for all streams, creeks, and rivers as they reach their receiving water body – like the Mississippi Delta. This is the first time a shoal has been removed from this area that the County is aware of. Referred to as the “Northernmost Headwaters of the Florida Everglades,” Shingle Creek begins in Orlando and meanders 23 miles before flowing into Lake Tohopekaliga in Osceola County. The Florida Department of Health in Osceola County encourages residents to get their flu shots Kissimmee, FL — The Florida Department of Health in Osceola County (FDOH-Osceola) is urging residents to contact their health care provider or pharmacy to get vaccinated against the flu as soon as possible. Once vaccinated, it takes about two weeks to offer protection. An annual seasonal flu shot is the best way to help protect against the flu and is recommended for those 6 months of age and older. Influenza is a potentially serious disease that can lead to hospitalization and sometimes death. Flu shots are important for everyone, especially those who are
at higher risk of serious complications from influenza. Free flu shots are available by appointment at FDOHOsceola for children and adults with no insurance. The fee is $35 for all others. The Golden Anniversary Virtual Brunch was to raise awareness and support to continue serving this community for the next 50 years. Also, the community was able to purchase a Meal ticket (To Go Meal) or Sponsorships (VIP Meal Delivery for 10 or 20 Meals to Go) to help raise monies for the OCOA. “We are very excited to have this event this year virtually, so we can continue to connect with our community and at the same time raise money for our Meals on Wheels clients,” said Wendy Ford, President of the Osceola Council on Aging. “Our clients need our help more than ever and we are grateful to our community for helping us to continue our efforts and services for this great place we call home.”

I-4 FDOT News Nuevo sistema de detección en la I-4 ayuda a prevenir que conductores manejen en sentido contrario Deland, FL - La instalación y prueba de una tecnología diseñada para reducir el riesgo de incidentes de manejar en sentido contrario se encuentra en las etapas finales en 17 rampas de salida de la Interestatal 4 (I-4) en los condados Orange, Seminole y Volusia. New detection systems on I-4 help deter wrong-way drivers Deland, FL - Installation and testing of a technology designed to reduce the risk of wrong-way driving incidents is in the final stages on 17 Interstate 4 (I-4) off ramps in Orange, Seminole, and Volusia counties. The technology, known as Wrong-Way Vehicle Detection Systems (WWVDS), consists of specialized signage that detects drivers going the wrong-way on highway off ramps. A vehicle traveling the opposite way will trigger the system, which in turn will flash red beacons to warn the driver. If the driver continues in the wrong direction, the system will instantly send alerts to FDOT traffic managers and law enforcement, improving incident response times. At the same time, a wrong-way driver alert will appear on electronic messaging boards along the interstate to warn other motorists. The systems also include additional wrong-way signage, roadway reflectors, and pavement markings, further enhancing the safety features at the offramps.
Wrong-way driving crashes occur when a driver has not observed posted traffic signs and proceeds in a lane going the wrong direction, increasing the risk of a head-on collision. While wrong-way driving crashes occur less frequently than other types of crashes, wrong-way crashes often involve more than two vehicles. They can result in fatalities and serious injuries. The new WWVDS installed at each I-4 off-ramp can detect and log these wrong-way driving events, which enhances road safety by helping to identify any potential needed improvements. Washington, DC - El gobierno de Puerto Rico testificó ante el Comité Completo de Recursos Naturales de la Cámara de Representantes de los Estados Unidos en una audiencia titulada "AEE Posterior a la Implementación del Contrato de Transmisión y Distribución LUMA" para discutir el proceso de transformación de la red eléctrica de Puerto Rico. La lista de testigos incluyó: al director ejecutivo de la Autoridad de Alianzas Público-Privadas de Puerto Rico (P3) el Sr. Fermín Fontanés, el director ejecutivo de la Oficina Central de Recuperación, Reconstrucción y Resiliencia (COR3) el Sr. Manuel Laboy, el presidente de la Junta de Gobierno de la Autoridad de Energía Eléctrica de Puerto Rico (AEE) Sr. Fernando Gil, presidente del Negociado de Energía de Puerto Rico (PREB) Sr. Edison Avilés-Deliz, presidente y director ejecutivo de LUMA Energy Puerto Rico Sr. Wayne Stensby , profesor de Ingeniería Eléctrica de la Universidad de Puerto Rico Mayagüez (UPRM) profesor Agustín Irizarry y la abogada Comunitaria y Ambiental Sra. Explicó además que estos desafíos se vieron agravados por la devastación causada por los huracanes Irma y María y una serie de terremotos que impactaron a Puerto Rico en diciembre de 2019 y enero de 2020. En su testimonio, señaló que el gobierno promulgó el Sistema Eléctrico de Puerto Rico. Ley de Transformación, Ley Núm. 120-2018 (según enmendada, “Ley 120”) para transformar el sistema eléctrico de Puerto Rico en uno moderno, sustentable, confiable, eficiente, rentable y resistente a desastres naturales. Con respecto a las funciones de supervisión técnica del Negociado de Energía de Puerto Rico (PREB), Fontanés destacó que PREB tiene la responsabilidad estatutaria de supervisar las tarifas cobradas a los consumidores. Además, enfatizó que PREB emitió una resolución para solicitar a LUMA que entregue informes trimestrales sobre métricas de desempeño, incluyendo métricas de servicio al cliente, duración promedio de interrupción del cliente, gastos operativos y de capital, y métricas de generación específicas. In his written testimony Fontanés outlined that under the agreement between the P3 Authority, PREPA, and LUMA (“the O&M Agreement”), LUMA will operate, maintain, and modernize Puerto Rico’s transmission and distribution for a 15-year term. Executive Director Fontanés highlighted that the Island’s electrical system has faced severe challenges due to years of underfunding, lack of maintenance, and disrepair. He further explained that these challenges were exacerbated by the devastation caused by hurricanes Irma and María and a series of earthquakes that impacted Puerto Rico in December 2019 and January 2020. In his testimony, he pointed out that the Government enacted the Puerto Rico Electric Power System Transformation Act, Act No. 120-2018
In his written statement, Fontanés acknowledged that the LUMA transition has had certain challenges as expected with any transition. During the hearing, Executive Director Fontanés noted that LUMA was not responsible for any operation, repair, replacement, maintenance, or improvement of the legacy electrical generating facilities. He underlined that the operation and maintenance of the base-load generation plants and gas turbine peaking plants located throughout the Island of Puerto Rico remain the responsibility of PREPA. For his part, the Executive Director of the Central Office of Recovery, Reconstruction, and Resiliency (COR3) Mr. Manuel Laboy, stressed that the devastation caused by Hurricanes Irma and María paved the way for a historical obligation of federal funds from the Public Assistance (PA) program of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), including approximately $9.5 billion destined for reconstruction works related to the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA). During his statement, Executive Director Laboy noted that among the damages caused by Hurricane María to Puerto Rico’s power grid was to the transmission and distribution system, including buildings, posts, substations, transmission lines, and other assets. These damages, in turn, represented the distribution of the $10.5 billion FAAst obligations for permanent work. During the hearing, Laboy pointed out that several projects funded under FEMA PA and HMGP programs will impact generation assets. Laboy also stressed that there are yet to be completed obligations related to the 2020 earthquakes disasters that will positively impact the generationside of PREPA’s operations. There have been four separate incidents that have taken place on the Kissimmee Trail bike path located behind several apartment complexes. Our officers responded to that location on April 22, 2021, at approximately 11:45 p.m. in reference to shots fired. The resident who called in the incident provided video footage of the trail where you can see two suspects, a white female and a white male, running away after firing shots. Three shell casings were found along the bike path. On October 5, 2021, at approximately
7:40 p.m., officers responded to a call from the same resident who says she heard gunshots at 6:30 p.m. and 7:40 p.m. Officers found three shell casings along the bike path related to the shootings. On October 6, 2021, officers responded to the same location around 6:45 p.m. in reference to shots fired. Four shell casings were found at the scene. Hospitals were checked during these investigations; however, no shooting victims were admitted. Detectives are urging anyone with information on these subjects to contact KPD at 407-847-0176. Repaso de los equipos de NFL de Florida tras el 1º mes Ya han pasado 5 semanas de la temporada regular, y los 3 equipos de Florida tienen sensaciones muy distintas. Tampa Bay Los actuales campeones han lucido bien a secas, todavía lejos del nivel de campeón que mostraron el año pasado y con algunos detalles por mejorar. La ofensiva puede lucir imparable a veces, como contra Atlanta y Miami, con Tom Brady jugando como en sus mejores tiempos y con el mejor arsenal de la NFL (Brown, Evans, Godwin, Gronk, Brate, Howard, Fournette, Bernard, RoJo, etc). Pero también pueden mostrar deficiencias, como cuando visitaron Los Ángeles o Nueva Inglaterra. Mientras se mantengan sanos, parece que no tendrán mayores problemas, más por el puro talento que por otra cosa. Del lado defensivo es donde parece otro equipo.
