Kissimmee, FL – After nearly a week of grueling work to restore power to residents in the Lehigh Valley region of Pennsylvania after Hurricane Sandy, Kissimmee Utility Authority crews moved to Long Island, New York to do the same there.

KUA crews were released Monday, November 5 at night by PPL Electric Utilities in Allentown, Penn. where they spent five days assisting with the restoration of power to more than 378,000 customers. On November 6 during the morning, they began their 3-hour trip east to Long Island, New York to assist the Long Island Power Authority with its restoration.

LIPA has nearly one quarter of a million customers still without power in the townships of Babylon, Brookhaven, East Hampton, Hempstead, Huntington, Islip, North Hempstead, Oyster Bay, Riverhead, Rockaway Peninsula, Shelter Island, Smithtown, Southampton and Southold.

As if the damage from Hurricane Sandy wasn’t bad enough, a powerful Nor’easter with high winds of 45 mph, cause some coastal flooding, rain, and even some wet snow for parts of the Northeast on Wednesday and Thursday, including Long Island.

Osceola Escuelas / Schools St. Cloud High School – Estudiantes St. Cloud High School – Student Helps Accident Victims ayuda a víctima de accidente Osceola County, FL – St. Condado Osceola, FL – El estudiante de la Escuela Superior de St. Cloud, Dakota Scott salió de la escuela a almorzar el 5 de octubre por la calle Bulldog Lane. Mientras salía y se acercaba a la intersección de la calle 17 y calle Indiana Avenue, el auto que iba en frente fue impactado por otro automóvil que no hizo el pare correspondiente. El cadete Scott, observó todo lo que sucedió y prontamente se bajó de su auto a socorrer a la víctima del auto que fue impactado.

Cloud High School student Dakota Scott left campus for lunch on October 5 through the Bulldog Lane gate. As he exited the campus and approached the intersection at 17th Street and Indiana Avenue, the car in front of him was hit on the driver’s side by another car that ran through the stop sign.

Puerto Rico - Noticias / News Puerto elige nuevo Gobernador y nuevo estatus San Juan, PR – Alejandro García Padilla, candidato a la gobernación por el Partido Popular Democrático es el nuevo gobernador electo de Puerto Rico luego de vencer al actual incumbente Luis Fortuño (47.85% a 47.04%) el pasado martes 6 de noviembre en las elecciones generales.

Una de las grandes sorpresas de la noche fue la reelección del candidato a Comisionado Residente en Washington Pedro Pierluisi del Partido Nuevo Progresista con un 48.38% de los votos lo que refleja que habrá un gobierno compartido, aunque el Partido Popular Democrático haya conseguido el dominio de la Cámara y el Senado.

Estas elecciones se consideran históricas debido a los resultados de las dos preguntas sobre estatus que se incluyeron en las papeletas.

Según estos un 53.99% de los puertorriqueños no está de acuerdo en mantener la condición política actual del país. Al preguntársele qué opción territorial preferirían de tener que optar por un cambio, la estadidad obtuvo el 61.15% de los votos, por ciento que nunca se había alcanzado en referéndums anteriores. Sin embargo, aproximadamente 450,000 votantes dejaron esta segunda pregunta en blanco y cerca de 65,000 no contestaron la primera pregunta.

These elections are considered historic due to the results of the two questions about status included in the ballots. According to them a 53.99% of the Puerto Ricans did not agree with keeping the actual political condition of the country. When asked what territorial option they would prefer if they have to select one, the statehood obtained a 61.15% of the votes, a percentage never reached in previous referendums. However, approximately 450,000 voters left this question unanswered and close to 65,000 did not answer the first question.

The results of this referendum have generated much controversy.

Although President Obama expressed his support to it and pledged to respect the will of the people in the event of a clear majority, it has to be approved by the Congress.

There are many unanswered questions right now. Will the Congress recognize these results? Is President Obama going to consider that the numbers represent an overwhelming majority? Are they going to consider the ballots left blank, that when added to the supporters of the independency and the free association become a greater number than those who favored the statehood?

The situation gets more complicated due to the fact that the first statements of the elected governor indicate his position of not to recognizing the results, as he disagrees with the definition of the Sovereign Free Associated State that was included in the ballot.

One of the advantages of Puerto Rico becoming a state is the possibility of obtaining more federal funds (close to $20 billions) something that can alleviate the economic crisis in the island. Right now the country has an unemployment rate of 13 percent.

Also, the 51st state would gain two seats in the U.S. Senate and five in the House of Representative, as well as the possibility to vote for the presidency.

Those who are opposed to the statehood in Puerto Rico have argued that becoming a part of United States might compromise the island’s language and culture, because the federal government is going to require the adoption of English as the official language. Besides, there are many who are opposed to the fact that, if Puerto Rico becomes a state, Puerto Rican residents have to pay federal taxes.

Eventos / Events Evento de “Trick or Treat” en Kissimmee Main Street atrae a sobre 1,000 niños Kissimmee, FL – Kissimmee Main Street (KMS) auspició su evento anual de “Trick or Treat” en Broadway en el downtown Kissimmee el viernes, 26 de octubre.

Un estimado de 1,400 niños asistieron este año al evento de “Trick or Treat”, casi el doble de asistencia del pasado año. La ruta para recoger dulces comenzaba en el Toho Square, en la mesa de exhibición de Kissimmee Main Street, donde los participantes recibieron un mapa y una bolsa gratis de BB&T Bank para recoger los dulces.

Las tiendas que tenían dulces para ofrecerles a los niños estaban marcadas con globos de air, provistas por Puzzles Party Shop.

A lo largo de la ruta, los dueños de los negocios y empleados les daban dulces a los cientos de niños que pasaban disfrazados.

El evento de “Trick or Treat” en Broadway de este año ha sido el más exitoso,” dijo Skip Stowers, dueño de Photography by Skip Stowers.

Kissimmee Main Stree host over 1,000 Kids at Trick or Treat Kissimmee, FL – Kissimmee Main Street (KMS) hosted their annual Trick or Treat on Broadway in downtown Kissimmee Friday, October 26th.

An estimated 1,400 kids trick or treated on Broadway this year, nearly doubling the attendance from last year. The route for the trick or treat began in Toho Square at the Kissimmee Main Street booth where participants were given a map and free bag from BB&T Bank downtown Kissimmee branch, to collect candy.

The trick or treat route was marked with balloons provided by Puzzles Party Shop at each participating business.

Along the route, business owners and employees handed out candy to hundreds of kids dressed up in costumes.

“Trick or Treat on Broadway was bigger than ever,” said Skip Stowers, owner of Photography by Skip Stowers. “I gave out 1,200 pieces of candy to only kids. It even rained the last hour of the trick or treat and it was still successful. It is a great event for businesses and just gets bigger every year.”

The City of Kissimmee hosted their annual Fall Festival in conjunction with Trick or Treat on Broadway from 5-9pm. Bounce houses, carnival games, hayrides and music filled Toho Square and parts of Pleasant Street. Both events ended early due to weather from Hurricane Sandy. A movie in the park was also scheduled for 8pm, but was canceled due to weather conditions.

“We are thrilled this event continues to grow every year,” said Kelly Trace, Kissimmee Main Street Executive Director. “The business owners love seeing the children out and with big smiles and creative costumes on. We hope to continue to bring business to Downtown Kissimmee with all of our events.”

Trick or Treat on Broadway is held every year on the Friday before Halloween.

Orlando Magic - Noticias / News Comienza la temporada regular Orlando, FL – El Orlando Magic recibió al Denver Nuggets el viernes 2 de noviembre de 2012 en un estadio repleto en el comienzo de la temporada. El juego comenzó descuidado y lento, con ninguno de los equipos capaz de encontrar su ritmo. Tres faltas a principio de juego tubo al Magic sustituyendo jugadores.

El ritmo comenzó a mejorar y las anotaciones a aumentar una vez JJ Redick y Josh McRoberts tomaron la cancha. Lanzando casi un 25% mejor, el Magic completó el primer cuarto con ventaja de diez. Regular Season Started Orlando, FL – The Orlando Magic hosted the Denver Nuggets Friday November 2, 2012 to a sold out crowd at the season opener. The game started sloppy and slow, with neither team able to find their rhythm.

Three fouls early in the game had the Magic subbing players. The pace picked up and scoring increased once JJ Redick and Josh McRoberts took the court. By shooting almost 25% better, the Magic finished the first quarter up by ten. The Magic got it together in the last five minutes of the second quarter. Glen Davis was playing like we’ve never seen before. He finished the half with 15 points, as did JJ Redick. In the third quarter the Nuggets tightened up on defense. The Magic were still able to make necessary changes to their offense to hold on to the lead. The Nuggets switched to sloppy fouls in an attempt to keep the Magic at a ten point lead. A fired up Magic team took the court in the fourth. Possibly the most entertaining quarter I’ve ever witnessed at a Magic game. Every player was playing with heart and having fun and it showed. With big, crowd pleasing plays, like Jameer Nelson to Josh McRoberts onehanded dunk, the Magic finished the game with 102 beating the Nuggets 89. Hedo Turkoglu broke his hand and had surgery. He is expected to return in four to six weeks.

Sunday November 4, 2012, the Orlando Magic played the Phoenix Suns at the Amway Center. With both teams needing this win for momentum, it was sure to be a great match up.

Again this game started very slow.

Both teams unable to finish left the crowd unimpressed. The Magic only shooting 36% left them down by ten at the half. Aaron Afflalo, E’Twaun Moore, and JJ Redick led the team in scoring with a combined total of 31 out of the Magic’s 46 points. I’m not sure what coach, Jacque Vaughn, said to the team in the locker room but it worked. The tempo of the game completely changed in the third quarter. Fast ball movement and defensive rebounding was back! The Magic took control of the game and held on to the lead. The game ended Magic 115 to the Suns 94. Andrew Nicholson and DeQuan Jones scored their first baskets of the season this game. Most impressive were five of the Orlando Magic players ended with points in the double digits; Glen Davis and Aaron Afflalo with 22, Nik Vucevic with 18, E’Twaun Moore with 18 and JJ Redick with 24. The Magic then took to the road to play the Chicago Bulls followed by the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Experiencing their first losses of the season, the Magic will be sure to come out fired up when they take on the Brooklyn Nets at home this Friday. The first quarter’s lack of energy is consistently becoming a problem. With Jameer Nelson dayto-day, we can only hope to see him Friday. The Magic have a 2-2 record so far this season. They have proven their offense is more than capable and are constantly making changes to improve on defense. Fans were uncertain about this new Magic team before the season started, but one thing this team has proven is they are definitely something to believe in.

Detectives Need to Identifying Sunoco Station Armed Robbery Suspect Osceola County, FL – Osceola County Sheriff’s detectives need the public’s help in identifying an armed robbery suspect. The investigation began on November 2 at approximately 9:58 a.m. when deputies responded to the Sunoco Gas Station located at 2566 North Orange Blossom Trail in Kissimmee.

Upon arrival, deputies spoke with the store employees who indicated that

two unknown suspects entered the store and one suspect jumped over the counter. They demanded money from the safe and left the store with an undisclosed amount of money.

Deputies with the assistance of K-9 and the Aviation Unit searched the area, but were unable to locate the suspects.

Marie Theresa Trabold (Terrie) was born In Denver, Colorado on December 27, 1962 and went to her rest on November 4, 2012 in San Antonio, TX after a fourteen and a half year brave battle with cancer.

Terrie was the daughter of Fred and Blanquita Trabold. Her Father preceded her in death in 2003.

She will be greatly missed by her family and friends especially by her devoted husband Jorge Ancira, her two children Jorge and Mari Tere.

A funeral mass took place on Friday, November 9, 2012 at 12:00 PM at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church; 526 North Park Avenue Winter Park, FL 32789.
