Osceola County Commissioners Elect New Chairman, Vice Chairman Osceola County, FL - At a special meeting held on December 3, Osceola County Commissioners elected Commissioner Frank Attkisson as Chairman of the Osceola County Board of County Commissioners for the upcoming year, effective immediately.

Attkisson joins Ken Smith as the only former Mayor of Kissimmee in modern times to Chair the Commission, though current Kissimmee Mayor Jim Swan is a former commission chairman.

“The chairmanship is so different,” Attkisson said. “The only power you have is the one that the other members give you. I want to continue the fine job of my two predecessors (Brandon Arrington and John Quiñones). They were always inclusive. It is important for the majority to listen to the minority, ponder it, and then act.”

District 5 Commissioner Fred Hawkins, Jr. was selected as Vice Chairman.

“I am honored to serve and I appreciate the confidence of the Board,” said Hawkins.

Robert Sorenson, nuevo Jefe de Bomberos Condado Osceola, FL - Robert “Bob” Sorenson fue aprobado como el nuevo jefe de bomberos del Condado Osceola.

Robert Sorenson, New Fire Chief Osceola County, FL - Robert “Bob” Sorenson was approved as Osceola County’s new fire chief on Monday.

Sorenson, who served as the interim chief since June, oversees Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Fire Rescue divisions.

In accordance with the county charter, the Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved the appointment.

2012 Osceola Fall Art Festival

Condado Osceola, FL - El Festival de Arte de Otoño 2012 se celebró el 17 y 18 de noviembre en el centro de la Ciudad de Kissimmee. El festival fue producido por el Centro para las Artes de Osceola y Kissimmee Main Street, en el cual presentaron obras de arte y artesanías de artistas de todo el país además de artistas locales del Centro de la Florida, durante el evento se pudo disfrutar de entretenimiento en vivo, comida y actividades para niños.

“Experience Kissimmee el nuevo nombre del organismo de promoción turística del Condado, es un llamado para los viajeros que planean visitar la Florida Central”, dijo Shelley Maccini, Directora Ejecutiva de Experience Kissimmee.

Experience Kissimmee: Ready For The Future Of Travel Kissimmee, FL - The tourism sales and marketing arm of Osceola County, Florida, has re-branded itself to better align with the destination’s strategic goals and to reach the new generation of travelers.

The county tourism promotional agency’s new name, “Experience Kissimmee,” is a call to action to travelers planning to visit Central Florida, said Experience Kissimmee Executive Director Shelley Maccini.

“Today’s traveler doesn’t simply want to stay in a destination. They want to experience a destination,” Maccini said. “Our mix of attractions and accommodations, proximity to

the theme parks, natural attractions and smaller entertainment offerings are perfectly suited to giving visitors the involvement and exploration they want in a vacation destination.”

The re-branding is expected to connect with the consumer on a personal level and help communicate the uniqueness of Kissimmee to current and future generations, setting up the destination for the years to come. Research suggests that when it comes to travel, decision makers range in age from mid-20s to 40s and tend to look for destinations that offer more options and a variety of experiences.

The new name also comes with a new logo and branding campaign with a fresh and modern look that will be executed domestically and internationally.

The rollout will take place in December 2012 and continue into 2013, touching all markets including domestic leisure, sports, meetings and international.

Experience Kissimmee as an organizational name was chosen following a survey shared with Kissimmee tourism industry partners and consumers. “Experience” was the word that resonated most.

Eventos Navideños / Holiday Events Decoran negocios del Centro de la Ciudad para la temporada Navideña Kissimmee, FL - Kissimmee Main Street y estudiantes de arte locales, comenzaron a pintar las vidriera de los establecimientos el sábado 1ero de diciembre en celebración de la temporada navideña.

En las vidrieras presentaran diferentes escenarios Navideños desde nieve cubriendo árboles hasta viajes en trineo y muñecos de nieve. Los negocios participantes son: Gallery One Artists, Quokka Coffee, Shore’s Menswear, Breck’s Gourmet Cookies, Broadway Pizza Bar, el garaje de estacionamiento del Condado Osceola y la Estación de Bienvenida de Kissimmee Main Street.

El Comité de Diseño de Kissimmee Main Street presentó la idea a la Directora Ejecutiva Nelly Trace, como una manera de añadir decoraciones navideñas al Centro de la Ciudad de Kissimmee y hacer que los negocios participen.

“Nuestra comunidad de negocios se unió para apoyar esta gran idea,” dijo Trace. “Esperamos poder pintar más vidrieras en los próximos años para que el Centro de la Ciudad pueda estar más decorada para la Navidad.”

Downtown business windows decorated for the holidays Kissimmee, FL - Kissimmee Main Street and local student artists, began painting Downtown Kissimmee storefront windows on Saturday, Dec. 1st in celebration of the holiday season.

The windows will feature different holiday sceneries from snow covered trees to sleigh rides and snowmen. Participating businesses are: Gallery One Artists, Quokka Coffee, Shore’s Menswear, Breck’s Gourmet Cookies, Broadway Pizza Bar, the Osceola County parking garage

and the Kissimmee Main Street Welcome Station.

The Kissimmee Main Street Design Committee presented the idea to Executive Director, Kelly Trace, as a way of adding to Downtown Kissimmee’s holiday decorations and getting the businesses involved.

“Our business community came together to support this great idea,” said Trace. “We hope to paint more storefronts in the coming years so that Downtown can be even more decorated for the holidays.”

Students from Osceola School for the Arts, Gateway High School and Osceola High School are those participating in the window painting this year along with the Kissimmee Main Street Design Committee.

Kissimmee Main Street hopes to have all windows completed by the Festival of Lights parade, which takes place Dec. 8th.

St. Cloud City Hall resplandece St. Cloud, FL - La Ciudad de St. Cloud presentó la Vigésima Primera Ceremonia Vigésimo Primera de la Iluminación del Árbol el 30 de noviembre en el patio de City Hall. The Christmas tree will provide holiday cheer to downtown St. Cloud visitors every day and will be lit every evening from dusk to dawn during the holiday season.

Osceola Schools - Noticias / News Los Índices de Graduación en Osceola son mejores que el Promedio del Estado Condado Osceola, FL - El reporte de 2012 revelado por el Departamento de Educación de Florida demuestra que, en promedio, más estudiantes de Osceola están permaneciendo en la escuela y graduándose, en comparación con sus compañeros a través del Estado. El índice de graduación de Osceola mejoró 1.4% de 76.1% en 2011 a 77.5% en 2012, subiendo así al nivel más alto que jamás haya tenido. Todas las nueve escuelas superiores en el condado Osceola tuvieron considerables aumentos en sus índices de graduación, particularmente la Escuela Superior Poinciana, la cual aumentó un 5.7% y la Escuela

KUA Noticias / News Cindy Herrera es seleccionada la Empleada del Año de KUA Kissimmee, FL - Cindy Herrera, Asistente del Vicepresidente de Recursos Humanos, ha sido nombrada Empleada del Año 2012 de Kissimmee Utility Authority.

Herrera fue escogida entre los 12 empleados del mes de este año. Con este honor se recibe una placa, $200 en efectivo, dos días libres pagados y un espacio de estacionamiento reservado.

Herrera fue reconocida por desarrollar un programa comprensivo de bienestar para los empleados a nivel de toda la compañía que recibió reconocimiento de la iniciativa “FitFriendly Companies” de la Asociación Americana del Corazón y de la competencia del Orlando Sentinel “Top 100 Company for Working Families”. Cindy Herrera Named KUA Employee of the Year Kissimmee, FL - Assistant vice president of human resources Cindy Herrera has been named Kissimmee Utility Authority’s 2012 employee of the year.

Herrera was chosen from this year’s 12 employees of the month. With this honor comes a plaque, $200 cash, two days off with pay and a reserved parking space.

Herrera was recognized for developing a comprehensive company-wide employee wellness program that has received recognition from the American Heart Association’s Fit-Friendly Companies initiative

and the Orlando Sentinel’s Top 100 Company for Working Families competition. The utility’s wellness program includes regular health risk assessments, health screenings, nutrition coaching and education, and a wellness incentive program.

The wellness program has been credited with lowering employee health insurance claims for the past two years while reducing overall health care costs.

Herrera began her career at the utility in 2007 and graduated earlier this year as a Certified Public Manager from Florida State University.

Sheriff & Police - Noticias / News Arrestan tres sospechosos de secuestro y privación de libertad Condado Osceola, FL - El 2 de diciembre, aproximadamente a las 7:30 p.m., los agentes del Sheriff del Condado Osceola responideron al 5271 Images Circle en Kissimmee. A su llegada, hablaron con la víctima, una mujer embarazada de 23 años, quien indicó que estaba en su apartamento cuando se le acercaron tres individuos desconocidos identificados como Soom Amphavanna, Joseph Ottuso y Leann Ottuso. Leann y su esposo Joseph son dueños del Ace Pilot Bail Bonds y recientemente habían ofrecido la fianza del novio de la víctima, Pierre Tyvon Evans. Los tres sospechosos le pidieron a la víctima hablar lejos del apartamento así que ésta los siguió hasta su camioneta.

Three Suspects Arrested for Kidnapping/False Imprisonment Osceola County, FL - On December 2 at approximately 7:30 p.m., Osceola County Sheriff’s deputies responded to 5271 Images Circle in Kissimmee. Upon arrival, they spoke with the 23 year old pregnant victim who indicated she was at her apartment and approached by three known individuals, identified as Soom Amphavanna, Joseph Ottuso and Leann Ottuso. Leann and her husband Joseph owners Ace Pilot Bail Bonds and recently bonded out the victim’s boyfriend, Pierre Tyvon

Evans. The three suspects asked to speak with the victim away from the apartment so she followed them to their pickup truck. She was put in handcuffs and Leann indicated to her she was under arrest. The victim thought they wanted to speak with her to find out where Evans was because he had missed a court appearance.

The three suspects forced the victim at gunpoint into their truck and drove her to the intersection of Polynesian Isle Boulevard and SR 535. The Ottusos went into a pizza restaurant

Estos comenzaron en casa con su tercera derrota frente al Brooklyn Nets, 98 a 86. Con Brook Lopez de los Nets fuera con una lesion, Joe Jonson y Deron Williams dirigieron el equipo hacia la victoria. By Amanda Ludick Orlando, FL - What a week it has been for the Orlando Magic! They started out at home with their third loss to the Brooklyn Nets, 98 to 86.

With Brook Lopez out for the Nets due to injury, Joe Johnson and Deron Williams led this team to another victory. Jameer Nelson sat out this game allowing E’Twaun Moore to start. Moore put up some decent numbers including 13 points, four rebounds and four assists. While the Magic were able to keep turnovers down to only nine this game, the three point attempts just would not fall. Aaron Afflalo only put up five total points this game with JJ behind him at two. Brooklyn did a great job guarding these two and limiting their shot attempts.

The Magic were able to put this behind them and take the Lakers court by storm on Sunday. The much anticipated matchup against Dwight Howard had arrived. And while most

players stayed demure in interviews saying “it’s another game and a win we need”, Orlando fans knew this win would mean so much for the Magic.

Jameer Nelson, who was unsure if he was playing till ten minutes before the game, was a key component. Nelson had 13 assists, five rebounds, two steals, and 19 points to lead Orlando to a huge win over the Lakers. Glen Davis played with high energy and looked more focus than we’ve seen before. Twelve big rebounds, two assists, a steal, two blocks and 23 points were the result of that focus. Nik Vucevic, guarding Dwight Howard, and Aaron Afflalo, guarding Kobe Bryant, played with more hustle, more drive, and the end result paid off. Vucevic managed 12 rebounds, four blocks and 17 points against Howard. He also walked away from this game with a new confidence about him. Aaron Afflalo was able to grab five assists, five steals and 30 points for the Magic. Every guy who played for the Magic played with high

energy and focus. The final score was 113 to 103. Howard immediately left the court before shaking hands with his former teammates and then ignored questions from Orlando media. And while this win felt so good for so many Magic fans, for me the best part was watching the fourth quarter. The Orlando Magic played “Hack-a-Howard” better than any other team putting Dwight at the free throw line 21 times, nine went in. And let’s not forget Chris Duhon. Watching him dribble down the court and back around to the arch, making sloppy passes, and having few assists and fewer points was nice to watch when he’s on the opposing team. The Magic left LA with a new, well earned confidence.

Next in Oakland to play the Warriors, the Magic kept this style of play going and again it paid off. Taking a 102 to 94 victory over the Warriors, this road trip was proving to be just what Orlando needed. Afflalo, Davis

and Redick all had big numbers this game. But the biggest thing you can now see when you watch the Orlando Magic play is this confidence. Now that they have the confidence, let’s hope consistency is their next focus.

While in Utah to face the Jazz, the Magic could not seem to get their offense going. Twenty turnovers this game and only one successful 3 point shot helped the Jazz beat the Magic 87 to 81. The heart and hustle were there but ball possession and movement was not. The Magic have what it takes to become a winning team and even crazier, to have a shot a playoff seed. Consistency will be key to make either of those happen. The last two games of this road trip are two more possible wins for Orlando.

The Sacramento Kings Friday and Phoenix Suns Sunday are two teams the Magic can beat. If they continue the energy and ball movement and find some consistency in each other, the Orlando Magic should return home with a 9 win 11 loss record.
