Kissimmee, FL - La oficina de Desarrollo Económico de la Ciudad de Kissimmee anunció que Italico Aviation, una planta manufacturera de aviones de Italia, abrirá una sucursal en el aeropuerto de Kissimmee Gateway en enero de 2013.

La empresa manufacturará “light sports aircraft (LSA)” y planifica crear unas 55 nuevas posiciones en los próximos cuartro años generando un capital de más de $3.2 millones en inversión. Kissimmee Economic Development Unveils Projects that would bring more jobs Kissimmee, FL - The City of Kissimmee’s Economic Development Office announced that Italico Aviation, an Italy-based airplane manufacturer, will open a manufacturing facility at the Kissimmee Gateway Airport in January of 2013. This Kissimmee facility will manufacture light sports aircraft (LSA) and plans to create 55 new positions over the next 4 years with more than a $3.2 million capital investment.

Of the three large manufacturers of LSAs, Italico Aviation USA will be the only original equipment manufacturer of Lights Sports Aircraft in the United States. The other two manufacturers are both located in other countries (Cessna LSA’s are manufactured in China; Piper LSA’s are manufactured in Czechoslovakia).

The Kissimmee based headquarters will also be home to their expanding research and development operation and serve as the sales and distribution center for North and South America.

City of Kissimmee Mayor Jim Swan stated, “We share great pride in Italico’s decision to expand their operation here. It is a testament that Kissimmee and Osceola County are great places

for international companies to start, expand and continue to prosper.”

Osceola Celebrates Conference Center Opening Osceola County, FL - The Osceola County Conference Center -- a partnership between the Omni Orlando Resort at ChampionsGate, and Osceola County -- opened its doors this week.

With 46,000 square feet of meeting and event space, resort, county officials and industry partners celebrated the grand opening with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012.

“This is a wonderful addition to the top shelf experience the Omni offers its guests,” said Commissioner Michael Harford, whose district includes the resort. “This is a must stop destination for any group looking to hold a first-class meeting in Central Florida.”

The new space is scheduled to welcome its very first group in January 2013. As the newest addition to Omni Orlando Resort’s award-winning meeting space, the luxury

resort will now offer a total of 128,000 square feet of ballrooms, board rooms and break out spaces.

The crown jewel of the new center is a 28,800-square-foot ballroom ideal for, corporate meetings, banquets and events.

“We look forward to the benefits this new asset will provide to Osceola County,” said Commission Chairman Frank Attkisson. “Our economy will be well-served by this resort expansion.”

The resort, which is located at 1500 Masters Blvd., already boasts 82,000 square feet of meeting and banquet space, along with rooms, a full-service spa, championship golf courses and more.

new opportunities and inspiration for a better tomorrow.”

Renovation of the station will include an addition to create something the community has lacked – a place to call its own. Officials have spent many months planning the facility with the

help of pastors and residents from the community whose roots go back to its formation more than 100 years.

The recruitment process for the PreDiploma Program at both Gateway High School and Celebration High School will start in January with the informational meetings open to all parents of prospective applicants.

Any eighth-grade student residing in Osceola County may apply to the program. Applications will be available at these meetings, on the high schools’ websites, and from middle school guidance counselors.

Applications will be assessed based on the following criteria: 1) a completed application form; 2) high grade point average and standardized test scores in the higher percentile in seventh and eighth grades; 3) a signed Honor Code; and 4) strong recommendations from eighth grade academic teachers.

IB attendance zones have been adopted by the Osceola County School Board. Former Deputy Mayor Russell Holmes nominated Shroyer and the council agreed with a 5-0 vote.

Shroyer was elected to council Nov. 8, 2011.

“Wanda volunteered to temporarily relocate to be centrally located to assist all of the department’s divisions and management when we experienced the temporary loss of two of three administrative assistants,” said Miller. “She came in early, stayed late, and came in during her time off to ensure our department continued functioning effectively while we were short-handed. Without her commitment and excellent completion of many tasks, we could have seen a big impact on our exceptional internal and external customer service.”

Benitez has been a City employee for more than five years. Her outstanding effort in going above and beyond her regular duties is recognized and appreciated.

The new Miss Universe 2012 is Olivia Culpo from USA a 20 years old beauty that grew up in Cranston, Rhode Island as the middle child of five. Her other interests include movies, museums, concerts, and making people laugh. One day, Olivia hopes to land a career in either film or television.

Miss Philippines, Janine Tugonon, came in second, while Miss Venezuela, Irene Sofia Esser Quintero, placed third.

Miss Venezuela was one of the favorites from the beginning. But, when she tried to answer her question in English, her words made no sense.

This mistake could have cost her the crown, because even though she received 0 points for that answer, her total was so high that she ended over Miss Brazil and Miss Australia.

The question was about what new law she would want to create. Her answer: “We should have a straight way to go in our similar or in our lives or as is this ... I am a surfer and I think the best way I can take is the wave that I wait for it.”

On a previous statement posted on Miss Universe official website she stated: “I think every mistake is a step you take on the road to happiness, because they teach you what is important. I tend to look forward more than back.” These words will make now more sense to her than ever.

Un estudio reciente encontró que los bloqueadores betas (beta blockers) pueden incrementar el riesgo de tener ataques al corazón o infartos si los utilizas solos para tratar la presión arterial. Si estás tomando un bloqueador beta, consulte con su médico. Precaución no deje de tomar medicamentos sin antes consultarlo con su médico.

Más de la mitad de los americanos mayores de 60 años, tienen presión arterial alta.

Muchas personas con presión arterial alta necesitan más de un medicamento para tratar la condición. Debido a esto recibí muchas preguntas sobre los medicamentos para tratar la presión arterial.

Beta-Blockers Good or Not?

By Fred Cicetti Q. I heard that taking beta-blockers for high blood pressure is not a good idea. I take a beta-blocker, so should I ask my doctor to take me off it?

A recent study found that betablockers may increase the risk of having a heart attack or stroke if you are using them to treat high blood pressure alone. If you are taking a beta-blocker, discuss it with your doctor. Warning: Don’t stop taking the drug on your own.

More than half of Americans over age 60 have high blood pressure. Many people with high blood pressure need more than one medication to treat it.

So, I’ve received many questions about blood-pressure drugs.

There’s a lot of confusion about these medications because there are so many of them and they work in a variety of ways. Today’s column is devoted to clearing up some of the confusion.

Beta-blockers - Beta-blockers make your heart beat more slowly and with less force. Your heart pumps less blood and your pressure goes down. The following are the brand names for common beta-blockers:

Sectral, Tenormin, Kerlone, Zebeta, Cartrol, Tandate, Lopressor, Toprol XL, Corgard, Levatol, Visken, Inderal, Betapace, and Blocadren.

Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors - ACE inhibitors keep your body from making angiotensin II, a hormone that normally causes blood vessels to narrow. ACE inhibitors expand blood vessels so your blood pressure goes down. The following are common ACE inhibitors: Lotensin, Capoten, Vasotec, Monopril, Prinivil, Zestril, Univasc, Aceon, Accupril, Altace, and Mavik.

Angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBS) - ARBS are like ACE inhibitors because they protect against angiotensin II. ARBS don’t lower levels of the hormone; they prevent this chemical from affecting the heart and blood vessels. The following are common ARBS: Atacand, Teveten, Avapro, Cozaar, Benicar, Micardis, and Diovan.

Calcium channel blockers - These drugs block calcium from entering the muscle cells of the heart and blood vessels. This relaxes blood vessels and lowers blood pressure.

The following are common calcium channel blockers: Norvasc, Cardizem, Dilacor XR, Tiazac, Plendil, DynaCirc CR, Cardene, Adalat CC, Procardia, Nimotop, Sular, Calan, Covera HS, Isoptin, and Verelan.

Diuretics - Diuretics, also known as “water pills,” help the kidneys flush extra water and salt from your body and decrease blood volume to lower pressure. The following are common diuretics: Midamor, Bumex, Diuril, Hygroton,Thalitone, Lasix, Esidrix, Hydrodiuril, Saluron, Lozol, Enduron, Zaroxolyn, Aldactone, Demadex and Dyrenium.

Vasodilators - Vasodilators open blood vessels by directly relaxing the muscle in the vessel walls. Common vasodilators are Apresoline and Loniten.

Alpha blockers - Alpha blockers, also called alpha-adrenergic antagonists, reduce nerve impulses that tighten blood vessels; this permits blood to flow more freely.

Alpha-beta blockers - These drugs work two ways: they reduce nerve

impulses to blood vessels and slow the heartbeat. Common alpha-beta blockers are Coreg and Normodyne.

Central-acting agents - Centralacting agents work by preventing your brain from sending signals to your nervous system to speed up your heart rate and narrow your blood vessels. The following are examples: Catapres, Clorpres, Combipres, Wytensin, Tenex, Aldomet, Aldochlor, and Aldoril.

Combination drugs - There are a variety of preparations that combine medications. For example, Cozaar, which is an ARB, is combined with a diuretic, to form Hyzaar. The following are other popular combination drugs: Lexxel, Lotrel, Tarka, Tenoretic, Ziac, Corzide, Inderide, Timolide, Lotensin, Vaseretic, Prinzide, Zestoretic, Uniretic, Accuretic, Avalide, and Diovan HCT. Renin inhibitors - Renin inhibitors are a relatively new type of blood pressure drug. As the name indicates, they inhibit renin, which is an enzyme secreted by the kidneys that is involved in the release of angiotensin.

Sheriff & Police - Noticias / News Sospechoso de perturbar escuela elemental de St. Cloud es arrestado St. Cloud, FL - El 18 de diciembre de 2012, cerca de las 6:21 a.m., miembros del Departamento de la Policía de St. Cloud recibieron numerosas llamadas sobre un sospechoso que actuaba de manera extraña y posiblemente estaba bajo la influencia de narcóticos.

El sospechoso corrió por varios vecindarios actuando de la misma manera. Cerca de las 7:16 a.m., entró a los predios de la escuela elemental Lakeview localizada en el 2900 5ta Calle, de St. Cloud, FL, donde le pidió a uno de los empleados que llamara al 911; pero luego salió corriendo. La escuela no estaba en sesión en ese momento. El sujeto no estaba armado y no amenazó a nadie en la escuela.

La escuela fue asegurada como medida de precaución.

El sospechoso luego hizo contacto con una familia en el área de la 5ta Calle y la Avenida Columbia. La

Suspect of Disrupt St. Cloud Elementary School is Arrested St. Cloud, FL - On December 18th, 2012 at about 6:21 a.m., members of the St. Cloud Police Department received numerous calls reference to a subject who was acting bizarre and possibly under the influence of narcotics. Subject, ran through area neighborhoods acting strange.

About 7:16 a.m., the subject walked on to school grounds at Lakeview Elementary; located at 2900 5th Street, St. Cloud, Fl; where he asked a school employee to call 911; but then took off running. The school was not in-session at the time. The subject was not armed nor did he threaten anyone at the school. The school went into “lock-down” for precautionary reasons.

The subject then made contact with a family in the area of 5th Street and Columbia Avenue. The family was inside their vehicle, a 2003 Ford Expedition. The subject asked to be taken to the hospital. However, due to his strange behavior, the family went inside and called 911, leaving the vehicle unattended with the keys inside. The subject entered the family’s vehicle and drove himself to St. Cloud Hospital located at 2906 17th Street; where he went inside seeking treatment.

Subject was apprehended at the hospital and transported to Osceola County Jail. Subject has been charged with the following: Trespass on School Grounds, Disruption of an Education Institute, Occupied Burglary to Conveyance, and Grand Theft Auto.

This hasn’t happened since February of last season. They are also just one win shy of an eight seed playoff spot.

They certainly are out playing what most critics said this team would do; either that or they suck at tanking.

The Magic took on the Golden State Warriors at home last Friday. The Warriors were on a winning streak and the Magic had just lost to Atlanta.

Orlando came out with high energy and managed to outscore Golden State in the first three quarters. But even when the Warriors cut the lead to only ten, The Magic held on securing the win 99 to 85. Golden State only shot 37% and was outscored in the paint 42-34. Nik Vucevic managed 17 rebounds, 12 points and a steal.

Jameer Nelson had ten points and 11 assists. E’Twaun Moore and Andrew Nicholson had a combined 30 points, while JJ Redick had 16. They took their win and high energy on the road to face the Charlotte Bobcats.

Getting better and better each game, the Magic came out strong again.

It’s nice watching a team who has really improved on things that have hurt them. Lack of energy at the start is no longer a consistent factor.

And this energy showed. Four out of five starters finished in double digit points. Vucevic, who is getting more and more aggressive on defense, picked up 13 rebounds. Challenging

Love had 23 points and 15 rebounds while Pekovic had 19 points and 12 rebounds. But Glen Davis had fire. He was on fire with 28 points including five slam dunks, five rebounds, one assist, two steals and more aggression

than anyone. His energy on the court could be felt through the entire Amway. Vucevic had 14 points and 11 rebounds, Nelson managed 12 assists and Aaron Afflalo had 13 points, five rebounds and three assists. The Magic bench was just as energetic.

JJ Redick, Josh McRoberts, Gustavo Ayon, E’Twaun Moore and Andrew Nicholson played with intensity that helped Orlando seal the deal on this win. Orlando won 102 to 93.

Things certainly are coming together for this team. With another home game against the Wizards, the Magic stayed focus and again, came out with this intense energy. The defense these guys are playing is incredible.

Most starters had trouble getting the shot to fall. Afflalo and Davis both shot 6-18. Vucevic picked up 13 rebounds but shot 4-9. Moore and Redick kept

the Magic in this game with 32 points combined. Gustavo Ayon picked up eight rebounds and is a defensive force to be reckoned with. The Magic won 90-83.

In the last 40 seconds of the game, Glen Davis took a hard foul and appeared to be in serious pain. He was immediately escorted off the court to have his left shoulder examined. With pending MRI results, his fate is still undetermined. Orlando Magic is filled with lots of hope this is not a serious injury. Josh McRoberts or Andrew Nicholson would start in Davis’ place.

The Magic fly to Toronto to play the Raptor’s Friday night and then return home for a few games. The Magic, now with three starters out indefinitely, will need to come together and play with even more intensity and energy to pull out the next few wins.
