KUA - Noticias / News Eric Headlee, Lector de Medidores del Año de KUA Kissimmee, FL - Kissimmee Utility Authority nombró a Eric Headlee como su Lector de Medidores del Año 2012.

Headlee fue escogido entre 18 lectores de medidores a tiempo completo y parcial por su volumen de lectura de medidores y la exactitud, así como su asistencia, fiabilidad, liderazgo y manejo de tiempo durante el pasado año.

Headlee leyó 113,733 medidores eléctricos, de agua y de irrigación, en el 2012 con una tasa de exactitud de 99.97 por ciento. También tuvo asistencia perfecta durante el año.

El lector de medidores Angel Quiles fue nombrado primer finalista con lectura de 111,348 medidores y una exactitud de 99.96 por ciento.

“En un año típico, los lectores de medidores de KUA caminan cerca de 2,000 millas en cualquier estado del tiempo,” dijo Susan Postans, Vicepresidente de servicio al cliente de KUA. “Ellos frecuentemente se encuentran con perros, culebras, arañas, panales de abejas y otros peligros potenciales en sus rutas, lo que hace su efectividad en la lectura mucho más extraordinaria.”

Headlee was chosen from among the utility’s 18 full- and part-time meter readers for meter reading volume and accuracy as well as his attendance, dependability, leadership and time management during the past year.

Headlee read 113,733 electric, water and irrigation meters in 2012 with an accuracy rate of 99.97 percent. He also had perfect attendance for the year.

“In a typical year, a KUA meter reader walks nearly 2,000 miles in all weather conditions,” said Susan Postans, KUA’s vice president of customer service. “They frequently encounter dogs, snakes, spiders, bee hives and other potential hazards along their routes, which makes their reading accuracy that much more remarkable.”

KUA’s meter readers ended 2012 with nearly two million total meter reads with an accuracy rate of 99.96 percent.

Dave comes to the Chamber with extensive experience in economic development, public policy development, and community leadership as well as a strong hospitality background with Marriott International and Horizon Hospitality Associates. Dave Nolan and his wife Chris have been residents of Kissimmee, Florida

since November 2011. Dave graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stout with a bachelor’s degree in hospitality management where he was also named Outstanding Young Alumnus.

He is a career veteran of the hospitality industry, having served 13 years with Marriott Hotels in Tucson, Denver, Marina del Rey, Anaheim, Boston and Downtown Chicago. During his tenure with Marriott, Dave excelled in sales management and training, and was named Marketing Director of the Year and Sports Executive of the Year.

In 1989, Dave served as president/ CEO of Visit Milwaukee. He left Visit Milwaukee in 1994 to take the reins of Positively Cleveland, the region’s principal DMO. At Positively Cleveland, Dave helped open the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and improved the organization’s operating budget from $4.5 million to over $9 million. Mayor Michael White presented Dave the “Key to the City” for his collaborative spirit in making Cleveland one of America’s top renaissance cities.

Nolan was also invited by President Bill Clinton to represent Cleveland for the White House Conference on Tourism.

Kiddie Korner Program Kissimmee, FL - The City of Kissimmee Parks, Recreation & Public Facilities Department is offering our Kiddie Korner program at the Oak Street Park Community Center and Mark Durbin Community Park at Lakeside.

Children ages three to five years old participate in arts, crafts, games, themed parties, music, signing and much more! Birth certificates are required at the time of registration and children must be potty trained.

The program runs Monday – Friday except on City Holidays or other designated dates.

Oak Street Park Community Center times are 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. or 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Mark Durbin Community Park at Lakeside times are 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Tips For Tax Season 2013 Washington, DC - fWhen it comes to tax season, every year is a little different. Laws change, some benefits kick in while others end, and natural disasters can have an impact on your tax return.

The deadline for filing your taxes is April 15, 2013. While this is the normal deadline, there are some important new things you should know about the 2013 tax season.

New Process to Apply for an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN)

Scams and Fraud While tax seasons can vary slightly each year, there’s one thing that rarely changes: scammers are always trying to steal your personal information.

Identity theft is one of the most common types of fraud. It often starts when a scammer sends out an e-mail pretending to be the IRS and asks for your personal information. It’s called phishing and may also occur through other types of electronic communication such as text messages, so be careful.

The IRS does not initiate communications via e-mails and provides these tips to help you protect your personal information. They also explain what you should do if you receive a message supposedly from the IRS.

Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers are issued to people who want to file their taxes but do not have a Social Security Number.

Starting January 1, 2013, important changes were made to the application process, including the following: The IRS will only accept original identification documents such as passports and birth certificates or certified copies from the agency that issued them.

Notarized copies of documents will not be accepted.

New Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITINs) will be valid for a period of five years.

The IRS offers more information about Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITINs) on its website, including how to apply for one and where to get help.

USA.gov and GobiernoUSA.gov are the U.S. Government’s official web portals in English and Spanish, and part of the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA).

New and expanded services for taxpayers this year include a redesigned IRS.gov web site that’s easier to navigate and improved service options, including more video-conferencing assistance sites and additional social media tools.

In addition, the IRS has stepped up its enforcement efforts to protect taxpayers from refund fraud and identity theft.

Apps and Social Media For the third year, the IRS will offer IRS2Go, its smartphone application, which enables taxpayers to check on the status of their tax refund and obtain helpful tax information. The IRS2Go app, available for Apple and Android users, has been downloaded more than 800,000 times and used by taxpayers millions of times.

More helpful information is available through IRS social media platforms, including: YouTube, where viewers can watch more than 100 short, informative videos. They are available in English, Spanish, American Sign Language and other languages.

Fred Hawkins, Jr., who is Business Development Manager at Progressive Waste Solutions, knows how important the March of Dimes mission is. He has taken on the role of March for Babies Chair 2013 to raise awareness and important funding for stronger, healthier babies. “As a father, I can’t think of a more important cause than our babies,” said Hawkins.

The Kahouns, are the March of Dimes Ambassador Family this year.

They went through the experience of premature labor twice. First, their son Tucker at 36 weeks of gestation.

Second, their twins Lilah and Lexie, at 29 weeks. “We’ve supported March of Dimes: March for Babies each year since their birth and cannot wait for this year’s walk when they will be able to march in it on their own. Without March of Dimes and their support in research of all things associated with premature babies from preterm labor to the very best care possible, our girls would not have had the fighting chance they were given,” said Heather.

This year, the March for Babies campaign will focus on recruiting new family teams and sponsors to participate in making a difference for moms and babies. Orlando, FL - The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metro Orlando (HCCMO) published a special issue of their quarterly magazine Vision, in which they selected the 25 Influential Hispanics in Central Florida, including their 2012 Chairman of the Board, Maritza Martinez.

A reception took place on Tuesday, February 5th at the National Entrepreneur Center in Orlando, where all the selected individuals were honored. In addition to them, HCCMO board members, trustees and chamber member representatives attended the event sponsored by Popular Community Bank.

The list of 25 names was complied by the editorial board of Vision Magazine. Each of the board members was given instructions to choose 10 or more candidates who have demonstrated leadership or contributed to the enrichment and growth of the Hispanic community in Central Florida.

Sheriff & Police - Noticias / News Agentes arrestan dos sospechosos de robo a Walgreens Condado Osceola, FL Los agentes del Sheriff del Condado Osceola arrestaron a Michael Murphy y Torrey Jeringan y los acusaron de Robo, Gran Robo y Conducta Criminal.

Deputies Arrest Two Suspects for Walgreens Burglary Osceola County, FL Osceola County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Michael Murphy and Torrey Jernigan and charged them with Burglary, Grand Theft and Criminal Mischief.

The investigation began on January 31 at approximately 1:10 a.m. when deputies responded to an alarm at Walgreens located at 2900 Boggy Creek Road in

Kissimmee. Upon arrival, deputies spoke with the store’s security personnel who indicated they observed on surveillance video two suspects, later identified as Murphy and Jernigan, enter the store through the front door using what appeared to be a crow bar. They were seen putting cigarettes and gift cards into a trash can and leaving the store with the trash can.

Deputies in the area located suspects matching their description and conducted a traffic stop. Numerous burglary tools and the stolen items were found in their vehicle. Based on the information, Jernigan and Murphy were arrested and booked into the Osceola County Jail. The investigation is on-going with additional charges pending.

Need Help Identifying 2 Applebee’s Armed Suspects Osceola County, FL Osceola County Sheriff’s detectives need the public’s help in identifying two armed robbery suspects.

The investigation began on January 24 at approximately 3:06 a.m. when deputies responded to Applebee’s Restaurant located at 2060 E. Osceola Parkway in Kissimmee. Upon arrival, deputies spoke with the manager who indicated the restaurant was closed when two males wearing masks

and hoodies approached him. One suspect had a handgun and the other suspect was holding a long metal pipe. A physical altercation ensued and the suspects hit the manager with the gun and tied him up before leaving the restaurant with an undisclosed amount of money.

The team has also managed to lose a player to injury almost every game. There are some positive things to take away from all this.

Magic rookies have been seeing significantly more playing time. While they are still too young to carry the team, these minutes mean growth and development and they are the future of the franchise.

Center Kyle O’Quinn put up eleven points in just seven minutes of the fourth quarter during the 97 to 84 loss to the Boston Celtics. Guard E’Twaun Moore managed 14 points, four rebounds, four assists and a steal while Andrew Nicholson had a double double with ten rebounds and 14 points. Of course our key players did their part as well. Nik Vucevic put up another double double with 14 points and rebounds. Aaron Afflalo, Glen Davis and Al Harrington were the only injured players going into this game. Jameer Nelson suffered a severe bruise to his forearm and has been day to day ever since without dressing for a game.
