Osceola County, FL - The expression of one’s love to another is a celebrated custom among couples on Valentine’s Day. Since this day is considered “special” many couples choose it to marry. That was what happened last Thursday in Osceola County when Armando R. Ramirez, Osceola County Clerk of the Circuit
Court, hosted a group wedding ceremony at the Historic Osceola County Courthouse in Kissimmee. “Our courthouse is the oldest working courthouse in the state, and this is an excellent backdrop for happy couples to get married in a civil ceremony on this special day,” Ramirez said. West Osceola Library Branch Opens
Osceola County, FL - A new, state of the art library for the residents of West Osceola County opened on Saturday, February 10th, in Celebration with hundreds passing through its doors in the opening hours. The 10,000-square-foot facility at 305 Campus Street more than quadruples the space in which the previous facility was housed. Officials budgeted $200,000 to help fund the opening collection at a branch where usage has been highest per square foot among the county’s six branches. “I am excited that the West Osceola Branch finally has a permanent home. For many years, the residents of Celebration have demonstrated their love for public libraries and the contributions that they make to their community,” said Osceola County Commissioner Michael Harford, of the facility that opened on schedule after a ground-breaking last March. “Today, we enter a bold, new chapter. This location will impact all citizens of Western Osceola County in a positive manner.” The West Osceola branch consists of a one-story library building, with areas for the library collection, reading, study, computer, children/family and teens; as well as a large multipurpose room, staff work areas and office space, and restrooms. The Library offers wireless internet connectivity for users. The exterior architecture is consistent with the design intent of Celebration. Walt Disney World donated $150,000 for construction. Se ubicaron carpas y sillas en los predios para acomodar a los miembros de las familias y los amigos que las parejas que asistieron a la ceremonia. Hershey Florist en St. Cloud proveyó plantas con flores para ambientar el lugar. Además, la oficina del secretario entregó bolsitas con semillas de pájaro a los asistentes y un programa conmemorativo en español e inglés. Couples will receive a special commemorative marriage certificate, which will be mailed within one week from the date of the ceremony with the official certificate of marriage.

Osceola County, FL - Starting in March, ALCO will be offering another opportunity for you to take the World Instructor Training School Fitness Trainer Certification course. In October, ALCO began a partnership with the World Instructor Training School (W.I.T.S) and local gyms to offer a Personal Fitness Trainer national certification course. Orlando, FL La Cámara de Comercio Hispana del Área Metropolitana de Orlando (HCCMO por sus siglas en inglés) celebró su vigésimoprimero Almuerzo de Instalación en un evento especial y emotivo celebrado en el histórico y elegante Ballroom at Church Street en el centro de Orlando. El evento marcó la sucesión de una década, ya que el que fue su presidente por los pasados 10 años, el Sr. Ramón Ojeda, oficialmente pasó su trono a la nueva Presidente, la Sra. Diana Bolivar. Cientos de empresarios, líderes comunitarios y oficiales electos fueron testigos del acto de juramentación del nuevo Presidente de La Junta de Síndicos y la nueva Junta de Síndicos que dirigirán la organización en el 2013. Luego de una carismática bienvenida por el Sr. Jorge Esteves de WFTV Channel 9, y la nueva Presidente, Diana Bolivar, auspiciadores oficiales del evento, Walt Disney World, Jet Blue, Orlando Magic y University of Central Florida, tomaron el podio. La presidente de la Junta Saliente, Maritza Martinez nos dio un resumen de fin de año y reconoció con agradecimiento a la Junta de Síndicos la cual trabajó a su lado por el pasado año. “Misión cumplida”, declaró Martinez con orgullo mientras hablaba de cómo habían cumplido sus metas para el 2012.

The event marked the succession of a decade as the past President, Ramon Ojeda, officially stepped down and passed the throne to the new President, Diana Bolivar. Hundreds of businesses, community leaders and elected officials witnessed the swearing of a new Chair of the Board, Jose Cerda, and the new Board of
Directors who will be leading the organization in 2013. The outgoing Chair of the Board, Ms. Maritza Martinez from UCF, took us on a Year End Review journey and recognized the outgoing Board which worked with her during the past year. “Misión Cumplida”, stated Ms. Martinez when she proudly talked about how they accomplished their goals for 2012. The room got filled with emotion when Mr. Ramon Ojeda, gave his farewell remarks with a touching, yet inspiring speech. “Today we celebrate the beginning of a new era”, were Ojeda’s words as he remembered his beginning years with the chamber and he made reference to all the great things accomplished, and thanked all of those who were part of it. The now former president, pledge to the audience that he will continue to work for the community and ended his speech quoting one of Antonio Machado’s great poems: “Caminante no hay camino ...se hace camino al andar.” After a great lunch, the HCCMO recognized its Trustees whose contributions are an integral

El único jugador del Magic que no llevó el uniforme (además de los inactivos Al Harrington y Glen Davis) fue JJ Redick, aún fuera por una lesión en el hombro y Hedo Turkoglu, con el flu. Hedo Turkoglu positive on drug test By Amanda Ludick Orlando, FL - The Orlando Magic continued their losing streak in Cleveland last Friday. What should have been a close game ended up being an eleven point loss. The only Magic players who did not dress (other than inactive Al Harrington and Glen Davis) were JJ Redick, still out with a sore shoulder, and Hedo Turkoglu, out with the flu. Rookie Andrew Nicholson started this game and did some big things for the Magic. He is proving that the Magic do have a future by giving them 21 points, eight rebounds, 3 assists and two steals. Captain Jameer Nelson led the team with a double double scoring 15 points and having 13 assists. Nik Vucevic also had a double double with 13 rebounds and 25 points. Even though the team played well and the game was tied up at half, the Cavaliers outscored the Magic in the final two quarters and would win 108 to 119. The Magic came home to play the Portland Trailblazers. The losing streak finally came to an end. The Magic were able to beat the Trailblazers 110 to 104. Magic player Gustavo Ayon, who is originally from Mexico until being signed by New Orleans in December 2011 and then traded to Orlando, played the best game of his career. Gus put up 16 points, 11 rebounds, six assists and a steal and a block. This type of energy has not been seen from Ayon
in previous games, and hopefully it becomes consistent. JJ Redick made his return to the court and gave the Magic 22 points. Vucevic and Nelson would again have double doubles this game--ten points and 15 assists for Nelson and Vucevic had 17 points and 19 rebounds. But all good things must come to an end, right? Wednesday afternoon, the Magic announced Hedo Turkoglu had tested positive for a performance enhancing drug and would be suspended by the league for twenty games. He tested positive for methenolone, an anabolic steroid. In a press conference, Turk claimed it was in a medicine that he received from his trainer and took during the summer. He did not check with the Magic medical staff to make sure it was an approved substance. He then said “I’m sorry. I want to apologize to the DeVos family, the Magic organization, my teammates, and most important, all my fans here and all around the world and back home. This is a situation I never wanted to be in.” Magic general manager, Rob Hennigan, said he was tested in December and team officials were notified a week ago. Hennigan told the press “Clearly Hedo made a mistake. He knows he made a mistake. He’s owning it. It’s certainly a disappointing circumstance for us, but I certainly feel very confident in the diligence we use to inform our players about what can and cannot
be taken.” Turkoglu is the second Magic player from the 2009 team to test positive for a performance enhancing drug. Rashard Lewis tested positive twice in the 2009 post season. So what does this mean for the Magic team this year? Hedo has rarely played due to injuries and illness, and when he has, it hasn’t provided many positive results. This hurts his trade value even more. The trade deadline is Thursday the 21st, and hopefully the Magic will get rid of some of their bad contracts, including Turkoglu’s. The Magic played the Hawks at home Wednesday night. The loss was ugly. The only positive thing that can be said about the game is that its over. The Hawks won 108 to 76. On a positive note, while most of team will be resting during the All-Star break, make sure you watch Magic rookie Andrew Nicholson play on the opposing team of sophomore player Nik Vucevic in the Rising Stars Challenge Friday night. The Magic’s season will continue Tuesday against Charlotte at the Amway center.

Sheriff & Police - Noticias / News Arrestan tres sospechosos por darse a la fuga Condado Osceola, FL - El 11 de febrero, aproximadamente a las 3:13 a.m., los agentes del Sheriff del Condado Oscela intentaron hacer una detención de tráfico en la intersección de John Young Parkway y Vine Street. Al vehículo no le funcionaban las luces de atrás. El conductor, luego identificado como Jason Ray Allen no se detuvo y parecía estar bajo la influencia de drogas o alcohol. Suspect Arrested for Occupied Burglaries and Attempted Burglary Osceola County, FL - Osceola County Sheriff’s detectives arrested Arthur Farmer and charged him with two counts of Occupied Burglary and one count of Attempted Occupied Burglary. Since January, deputies have taken three reports, an attempted burglary and 2 occupied burglaries, in the Simpson Ridge Apartment Complex located on Simpson Road in Kissimmee. The first report was January 9 when the victims indicated an unknown male attempted to break into their apartment. They heard a noise at the front of the apartment and saw a male attempting to gain entry through a window. On January 18, deputies responded to the apartment complex and took a report of an occupied burglary. The continues on page 16 >>>

Three Suspects Arrested for Fleeing & Eluding Osceola County, FL - On February 11, at approximately 3:13 a.m., Osceola County Sheriff’s deputies attempted to make a traffic stop at the intersection of John Young Parkway and Vine Street. The vehicle did not have operable tag lights. The driver, later identified as Jason Ray Allen did not stop his vehicle and appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. As deputies attempted to deploy a spike stick, Allen swerved aiming his car at a deputy. Deputies followed the vehicle at a low rate of speed into Orange County until it came to a stop, striking a fence on Highway 417. With the assistance of K-9, Allen and another passenger,
Joseph Glatterman were taken into custody. Herbert Lamb attempted to flee the area, but the Aviation Unit was able to assist with locating him and he was apprehended by the Orlando Police Department. All three suspects was booked into the Orange County Jail. Methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia was located in the vehicle. The investigation is ongoing with additional charges pending. Two other individuals were in the residence, but did not witness anything. On February 8, deputies took another report of an occupied burglary. The victim indicated she woke up and saw an unknown male in her residence. The victim was able to provide a description which led detectives to Farmer, who also resides in the apartment complex. On February 9, detectives brought Farmer in for questioning. He cooperated with the investigation and based on his statements, he was arrested and booked into the Osceola County Jail.
