Anything Goes opens next weekend at the Center Osceola County, FL - The Cole Porter musical comedy Anything Goes starts this Friday, February 22nd, at the Osceola Center for the Arts in Kissimmee. Anything Goes takes place aboard the S.S. American, sailing from New York to England, where celebrity passengers include the beautiful American heiress Hope Harcourt, her foppish fiance Sir Evelyn Oakleigh and Hope’s wealthy mother. Another traveler, Billy Cocker, falls for Hope in this age-old tale of boy-meets-girl. Elisha J. Whitney, a pompous Wall Street Broker, Moonface Martin, Public Enemy #13 and Reno Sweeney, ex-evangelist turned nightclub singer, are all passengers as well. Musical numbers include “You’re the Top”, “I Get a Kick Out Of You”, “Blow, Gabriel, Blow” and “All Through the Night”. Anything Goes opened on Broadway in 1934 and has been revived several times over the years. In 1936, a movie musical was created and starred Ethel Merman as Reno Sweeney and Bing Crosby as Billy Crocker. 7th Annual National Entrepreneurship Week Dear Editor, Small businesses are the driving engine of the U.S. economy. According to the SBA, small businesses represent 98.9 percent of all employers and employ 42.9 percent of the privatesector labor force in Florida. Hispanics are the fastest-growing minority in the nation, and in Florida they represent a significant percentage of the population. U.S. Census data reported that in 2007 Hispanics owned between 11 and 60 percent of all businesses in 14 Florida counties. There is an excellent Florida nonprofit organization that specializes in providing bilingual assistance to Hispanic entrepreneurs trying to establish or expand their business in Florida. Many are not familiar with it and most think it’s too good to be true when they first learn about it. In honor of the 7th Annual National Entrepreneurship Week this February 16-23, let’s spread the word about the Hispanic Business Initiative Fund of Florida (HBIF). HBIF was founded in 1991 by community leaders who saw a need to support Hispanic entrepreneurs. The nonprofit economic development organization now has offices in the Central, West Coast and South Florida regions. For 22 years they have
provided services to small business owners for free: bilingual business counseling, business seminars and workshops in Spanish, and guidance on financing options. Furthermore, HBIF awards entrepreneurial grants for subcontracted projects such as business and marketing plans, corporate branding, Web site development and loan application preparation. And we are proud of the heroic actions she took during a very dangerous encounter in 2009.” During the June 22, 2009 incident, Officer Taylor found herself in a face-to-face confrontation with an armed inmate dressed in a correction officer’s uniform. With a weapon pointed at her, Officer Taylor grabbed the 9mm pistol diverting it from her direction, and delivering a knee spike to the inmate’s groin. The inmate dropped to the floor and the gun dropped several feet away. Officer Taylor immobilized the inmate and with her free hand, summoned assistance with her radio. “Officer Taylor engaged an inmate that was far superior in size, strength, motivation, and intention. She successfully

Policies and training has been reviewed and revamped. Citizens should be proud of, and have renewed confidence in the staff who have worked so hard to accomplish this transition, officials said.

Clerk’s office now has Spanish option for callers Osceola County - The Osceola County Clerk of the Circuit Court office recently updated its automated phone system, giving callers a Spanish language option. The change, made at no cost with the help of staff, provides another level of service for Spanish-speakers in the community who are not able to speak English. The previous phone system was in English only. “The Spanish calls will be directed to Spanish-speaking phone clerks,”
said Armando R. Ramirez, clerk of the circuit court, adding that the automated answering script was simplified so that callers no longer have to go through a lengthy recording. In addition, the clerk’s staff also created a new bilingual sign on the first floor of the courthouse advising visitors they must go to the second floor information desk to get information about paying fines or making other payments.
The next step, the clerk said, is to have information displayed in the second floor waiting room in both English and Spanish as a way to help customers get through their transactions more quickly. Customers in the near future may have some of their questions answered by reading the Spanish and English banners that scroll across the bottom of the TV in the waiting room. The goal, Ramirez said, is to shorten wait times and make that wait less stressful.

Es bien difícil evitar los dolores físicos a la vez que vas entrando en edad. Pero a la vez que la persona comienza a envejecer, se quejan menos de las dolamas. Este fenómeno puede causar una disminución en la sensibilidad al dolor. Algunos creen, que lo seniors no se quejan tanto como los adolescentes porque tienden a ser estoicos. Las personas tienen una variedad de dolores o padecimientos con los que nacen y toleran. Tengo dos nietas quienes son tan diferentes en sus habilidades para manejar el dolor que es casi gracioso. He visto como una se cae de la bicicleta se raspa la rodilla, se para y se vuelve a montar. Y la otra llora inconsolablemente por que se le entierra una astilla. La habilidad de soportar los dolores también depende de las emociones. Los atletas han jugado con huesos rotos porque sus energías han estado tan activas, que no se han dado cuenta de que se han lastimado. Caen en cuenta cuando van al vestidor y comienzan a sentir el dolor. Los dolores pueden ser agudos o crónicos. El dolor agudo viene de repente y se va al cabo de un momento. Mientras que los dolores crónicos persisten. Muchas personas de edad avanzada sufren de dolores crónicos, que provienen de una gran variedad de causas. Pain at advance age By Fred Cicetti Q. Is pain a necessary part of aging? It is very difficult to avoid physical pain as you get older. However, as many people age, they complain less about pain. This phenomenon may be caused by a decreased sensitivity to pain. However, some believe that seniors don’t moan as much as juniors because they tend to be stoics. People have a variety of inborn pain thresholds. I have two granddaughters who are so different in their ability to handle pain that it is almost comical. I’ve seen one of them tumble off a bike, skin her knee and climb back in the saddle without a whimper. The other little girl will cry inconsolably over the smallest splinter. The ability to withstand pain depends upon emotion, too. Athletes have played with broken bones because they were so pumped up by the action around them that they didn’t know they’d been injured. Later, in the locker room, the pain kicked in. Pain may be acute or chronic. Acute pain comes on suddenly and subsides after a short time. Chronic pain persists. Many seniors suffer from chronic pain, which has a variety of causes.
Pain affects as much as 65 percent of independent older adults and up to 80 percent of seniors in long-term care facilities. The following are some of the causes: About 80 percent of older adults suffer from osteoarthritis, inflammation of the joints. You get osteoarthritis when cartilage—the cushioning tissue within the joints— wears down. This produces stiffness and pain. You can get osteoarthritis in any joint, but it usually strikes those that support weight. People with diabetes, a condition that affects almost 20 percent of Americans over the age of 60, often have circulatory problems that produce pain. Gallstones, appendicitis, bowel obstruction, peptic ulcer disease, abdominal aortic aneurysm and gastroenteritis generate abdominal pain. continues on page 15 >>>

Osceola County, FL - Osceola County Sheriff’s detectives with Property Crimes East arrested Jacquelene Danielle Young, Eric Lance Chinn and Jeremy Justin Milyon for their involvement in at least 20 Unoccupied Burglaries, Car Burglaries and drug related crimes. The investigation began on January 28 when patrol deputies received information of two stolen bicycles that might be located at 6385 Woods Street in St. Cloud. The complainant indicated Jacquelene Young who lives at the residence recently brought the bicycles to the home, as well as other items that might be stolen.

Patrol deputies confirmed the bicycles were stolen from the neighborhood and detectives were able to obtain a search warrant for the residence. They located numerous stolen items that linked Young, Chinn and Milyon to at least 20 cases in the neighborhood. All three suspects were booked into the Osceola County Jail. The investigation is ongoing with additional charges pending. St. Cloud, FL - El 13 de febrero de 2013, aproximadamente a las 10:37 p.m. el sospechoso contactó el Departamento de Policía de St. Cloud a través del 911 y le dijo a los operadores que había lastimado a su pequeño hijo. Suspect Arrested for First Degree Murder Thomas David Gomez and Kegan Hill Osceola County, FL On February 12, 2013, at approximately 1:04 a.m., the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office was dispatching a report of an armed robbery at Starbucks located at 6075 W. Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway when deputies in the area observed a vehicle matching the description of the robbery suspects’ vehicle. Deputies attempted a traffic stop, but the suspects fled the area. Deputies followed the vehicle onto Interstate 4 and the vehicle eventually stopped at Ronald Reagan Parkway and Champions Gate Blvd. With the assistance of the Aviation Unit, K-9 Unit, the Polk County Sheriff’s
Office and Florida Highway Patrol, deputies located the suspects, identified as Devaughn Malik Davis, Dante Dixon, Thomas David Gomez and Kegan Hill. Two of the suspects sustained minor injuries. Deputies also located a weapon. Hill and Gomez were booked into the Polk County Jail. Davis and Dixon were sent to the Juvenile Assessment Center. All four suspects will be charged with Armed Robbery, Aggravated Assault and Grand Theft in addition to charges by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. St. Cloud, FL - On February 2, 2013, at approximately 10:37 p.m., the suspect contacted the St. Cloud Police Department via 911 and told 911 operators that he had hurt his infant son. The incident occurred at 1404 11th Street, Apt. # 3 St. Cloud, FL. Upon officer’s arrival, a 3 month old child (male) was transported via medical helicopter to Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital in Orlando, where he was later pronounced deceased. Larry Darnell Perry (the victim father) was placed under arrest and transported to the St. Cloud Police Department for questioning. Perry provided Detectives with a detailed statement as to why and how he killed the child. Perry has since been transported to the Osceola County Jail and has been charged with First Degree Murder. No other children were present in the home during this incident. The mother of the child who is currently incarcerated at the Osceola County Jail for unrelated charges has been notified.

Trade deadline rocked the Magic’s roster By Amanda Ludick Orlando, FL - The first game back from the All Star Break was Tuesday night at the Amway Center. The Orlando Magic took on the Charlotte Bobcats. The Magic have two more wins than the Bobcats, who currently have the worst record in the league. While most said this game should be an easy victory, I thought it would be another tough game. I thought maybe this will be a great game to watch. I was wrong. The Magic gave up 37 points in the first quarter and were down by ten. Not a great way to start a game. Nik Vucevic and Aaron Afflalo, the Magic’s two most consistent players, did their thing while the rest of the team seemed to struggle. Vucevic had a double double with 11 rebounds, 18 points, four assists and a steal. Afflalo had 18 points, four assists and a steal. Jameer Nelson and JJ Redick could not get a great shot off. Nelson was just two for eight from the three point line and Redick went zero for seven. Both guys had ten points each to end the game. The Bobcats took full advantage of Orlando the first half of the game. Orlando was down by twenty and going to have to make an impressive comeback. The Magic started the third as, what seemed like, a new team. They were actually playing defense and hustling on offense. By the end of the third they had cut the deficit to ten. Charlotte never let up and ended up winning 105 to 92. Although most of the game was painful to watch, rookies Moe Harkless and Andrew Nicholson were not. Harkless has really stepped up an aggressive player. Nicholson is becoming a force on both ends. He grabbed twelve rebounds, scored 13 points and had two assists.
Nicholson was just three rebounds shy of having another double double when the Magic played Wednesday night in Dallas. He did give the Magic ten of their 96 points. That wouldn’t be enough to win it. The Dallas Mavericks scored 111 to hand the Magic their 39th loss this season. Jameer Nelson took a pretty hard fall and was taken back to the locker room for immediate x-rays. The team has not released any results until Nelson has an MRI on his left knee. If Nelson is out for an extended period of time it would really hurt the team’s chances of winning. But on the other side, the Magic are putting themselves in a great place to gain draft picks. Thursday’s trade deadline definitely rocked the Magic’s roster. JJ Redick was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks along with Ish Smith and Gustavo Ayon. From this trade Magic acquired Doron Lamb, Tobias Harris and Beno Udrih. Also traded was Josh McRoberts to the Charlotte Bobcats for Hakim Warrick. Warrick is a power forward making $4 million a year and will become an unrestricted free agent in 2014. Tobias Harris is a forward making around $1.5 million and is stated to be a team option the next two seasons. Beno Udrih is a guard making $7.3 million but will become unrestricted at the end of this season. Doron Lamb is also a guard. The Bucks just pulled him from their D-League team on Sunday. Although fans will find it hard to part with JJ Redick as his family, Rob Hennigan found the best deal and took it. Expiring contracts are very appealing to this rebuilding team. And admit it, it really is nice to not be the Lakers right now, who have no guarantee Dwight Howard will be back next season.
