New Consul of Mexico in Orlando Nuevo Cónsul de México en Orlando Orlando, FL - El pasado jueves 18 de abril dio inicio sus funciones oficiales el nuevo Cónsul de México en Orlando Efrén Nicolás Leyva Acevedo.

El Lic. Leyva, quien es un político de carrera, perteneciente al PRI (Partido Revolucionario Institucional), partido que tomó nuevamente el poder en México luego de las elecciones del 2012. Ha sido Presidente Municipal de Chilpancingo, Guerrero, Secretario General de Gobierno del Estado de Guerrero y Diputado General en dos ocasiones.

“Estoy aquí para representar a la comunidad Mexicana y protegerlos” expresó el Cónsul Leyva Acevedo.

El Consulado de Orlando cubre el 75% del territorio de la Florida, con una población de 600,000 mexicanos que residen en el área, según el último censo, 400,000 de ellos pertenecen a la jurisdicción de Orlando.

El Lic. Leyva nos manifesto,“se va a continuar con los consulados móviles ya que es una manera de acercarse a la

comunidad y también se continuarán abriendo las oficinas el primer sábado de cada mes. También se va a aumentar los horarios de servicio, según sea necesario, y se va a ampliar el servicio móvil a más ciudades”.

El consulado también esta ofreciendo orientaciones a aquellos que cualifiquen bajo la ley de los “dreamers” a petición de aquellos que lo soliciten.

Entre los proyectos que le interesa promover destaca la integración comunitaria a través de la cultura y el deporte. Para esto, el nuevo cónsul, Lic. Leyva, propone apoyar la creación de equipos deportivos además de los ya organizados en las diferentes divisiones que componen el distrito consular para promover la convivencia, encontrarse para intercambiar experiencias y ayudarse unos a otros en estos momentos donde es fundamental la solidaridad.

New Consul of Mexico in Orlando Orlando, FL - Thursday, April 18th was the begining of the official duties for the new Consul of Mexico in Orlando, Efren Leyva Nicolas Acevedo. Lic Leyva is a career politician, belonging to the PRI (Institutional Revolutionary Party), the party that took power in Mexico after the 2012 elections. He has been Mayor of Chilpancingo, Guerrero and Secretary General of of the State of Guerrero as well as Deputy General on two occasions.

The Consulate of Orlando covers 75% of the territory of Florida. Of the 600,000 Mexicans living in the area, according to the last census, 400,000 belong to the jurisdiction of Orlando.

The new consul will continue with the mobile consulates as it is a way to get closer to the community and will continue to open the Consulate on the first Saturday of each month. This will allow for an increase service hours, as needed, and will expand the mobile service to more cities.

The consulate is also offering guidance, to those who qualify, under the law of the “dreamers” at the request of those who are interested.

The projects that the Consul wants to promote include those that help community integration through culture and sport. For this he aims to support the creation of sports teams, besides those already organized in the different divisions that make up the consular district, to promote co-existence and competition, and meeting and exchanging experiences to help each other in these times when solidarity is essential.

Washington, D.C. - Durante una audiencia del Sub-comité de Energía, el Congresista Alan Grayson (FL09) cuestionó al Director Adjunto de la Agencia de Sustancias Tóxicas y Registro de Enfermedades (ATSDR), Robin Ikeda, sobre el informe reciente de la agencia sobre la isla de Vieques. La ATSDR alega no haber encontrado un vínculo entre las seis décadas de actividades de la Marina estadounidense en la isla y la alarmante escala de cáncer y otras condiciones de escalada salud que sufren los viequenses.

El abogado, Fred Cumbie, director saliente, trabajó por dos períodos consecutivos y no es elegible para ser re-electo nuevamente.

Los aspirantes a la Junta Directiva deben residir en el territorio de servicio de KUA y deben demostrar una exitosa gestión de negocios o una carrera profesional en administración.

Los candidatos son: • HOWARD CHANIN, presidente de Butler Mortgage Inc. en Kissimmee. Ha vivido en Kissimmee por 23 años y tiene un grado en Economía del Babson College en Massachusetts. Es el Ex-Presidente de Finanzas del St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School en St. Cloud.

$480 Millones para poder darle aumento de sueldos a cada maestro Tallahassee, FL - El Gobernador Rick Scott y el Presidente de la Asociación de Educación de la Florida Andy Ford aplaudieron el acuerdo de la Cámara de Representantes y el Senado para implementar $480 millones en fondos para poder darle aumento de sueldos a los maestros. El lenguaje que acompaña a estos fondos permite a los distritos flexibilidad para desarrollar su propio plan de desempeño, para premiar al mayor número de maestros con el más grande aumento de sueldo posible y en coordinación con los acuerdos de negociación colectiva. $480 Million to Give Every Teacher a Pay Raise

Eight Apply for KUA Board Kissimmee, FL - Eight residents have submitted applications to fill a vacancy on the Kissimmee Utility Authority board of directors.

The deadline for completed applications was April 26.

The outgoing director, attorney Fred Cumbie, has served two terms on the board and is not eligible for reappointment.

Board applicants must reside within KUA’s service territory and should demonstrate a successful business or professional management career.

The applicants are: • HOWARD CHANIN, president of Butler Mortgage, Inc. in Kissimmee. He is a 23-year resident of Kissimmee and holds an economics degree from Babson College in Massachusetts. He is the former finance chairman of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School in St. Cloud.

The KUA board will interview applicants at the end of its regular meeting on May 1. The board will send three recommended applicants to the Kissimmee City Commission for second interviews and final appointment on May 14.

The candidate appointed by the city commission will be sworn in at the board’s October meeting.

Tallahassee, FL - Governor Rick Scott and Florida Education Association (FEA) President Andy Ford applauded the House and the Senate’s agreement to implement $480 million in teacher pay raises. The language accompanying the funding allows districts the flexibility to develop their own performance plans to award the greatest number of teachers the largest teacher pay raise possible, in coordination with their collective bargaining agreements. The $480 million in funding provides enough to give every teacher a minimum of a $2,000 pay raise, while also giving districts the ability to provide teacher raises of $2,500 or even $3,500 – depending on the plan each of the 67 school districts (plus lab and charter schools) develop.

Governor Rick Scott said, “I want to thank the House and the Senate for ensuring that we build on our work to implement performance pay, while also allowing school districts the flexibility to use the $480 million in new funding to give every Florida teacher a pay raise. Our teachers are some of the best in the nation and they deserve to be rewarded for their great work.”

Osceola Schools - Noticias / News Más de 20 mil personas asistieron a “Educación en el Parque 2013” Condado Osceola, FL - El Distrito Escolar del Condado Osceola fue el orgulloso anfitrión del evento anual Educación en el Parque 2012, celebrado el sabado 27 de abril en las afueras del Osceola Heritage Park.

Más de 20.000 personas disfrutaron de un divertido dia en familia diseñado para celebrar a la educacion y a los niños. Este es el evento más grande dirigido a la juventud realizado en Condado Osceola.

En esta edición, más de 100 kioskos interactivos exhibieron a las escuelas públicas y charter de Osceola, así como también a numerosos programas del Distrito, organizaciones

juveniles de la comunidad y socios de las escuelas.

Los asistentes pudieron disfrutar con la exhibición de artes manuales “Arte en el Parque;” los juegos y actividades de Radio Disney en el escenario principal, actividades para los “pequeñines” en el área del pre jardín de infantes y mucha diversión familiar a lo largo del evento.

Este año, por primera vez, “The Food Truck Bazar,” el evento de camiones de alimentos más antiguo de la nación estuvo presente con 17 sabrosos camiones que deleitaron a todos los presentes.

Osceola School District’s 2013 Education in the Park Condado Osceola, FL - The Osceola School District proudly host its annual Education in the Park event on Saturday, April 27, outside of Osceola Heritage Park. Over 20,000 people enjoyed this free family fun day designed to celebrate children and education. This is the largest youth-oriented event in Osceola County. In this edition,

the event featured over 100 interactive booths showcasing Osceola’s public and charter schools, as well as numerous district wide programs, community youth organizations, and school business partners.

The people could relish with the Hands-on arts exhibits in the “Arts in the Park” section, Radio Disney AM990 fun and games

on the big stage and “Pintsized” activities for youngsters in the prekindergarten area and plenty of family fun during all day.

This year, for first time the Food Truck Bazaar, the nation’s oldest food truck event company was at the event with 17 yummy trucks that everyone delights.

Inaugural State of the County: Osceola is Back Condado Osceola, FL - Osceola County hosted its inaugural State of the County event on Tuesday, April 30 at the Omni Orlando Resort at Champions Gate.

Hold in the new Osceola County Conference Center, the event served as a community status report, and focused on actions the county had taken in the last year and the resulting positive impact on residents and businesses, officials said.

The Conference Center -- a partnership between Osceola County and the Omni Orlando Resort at ChampionsGate -- is one sign of the county’s new aggressive approach.

Even before it opened earlier this year, the conference center had already generated more than $9 million in room reservations, said Commission Chairman Frank Attkisson.

Attkisson was the featured speaker at this event – the first for the county.

This year’s theme is “Celebrating 125 Years of Service. Looking to the Future.”

Don Omar, Jenni Rivera Win Big at Billboard Latin Music Awards Miami, FL - Don Omar, an artist who in the past few years has been defined by his hit singles, and Jenni Rivera, whose chart success was driven by album sales, were the top winners at the 2013 Billboard Latin Music Awards. The awards, presented by State Farm, were broadcast live on the Telemundo network from the BankUnited Center in Miami.

Don Omar, who performed his current hit, “Zumba,” at the show, had garnered 18 finalist nods—a record tied only by Tito El Bambino in 2010—and took home 10 of those awards. They include Songs Artist of the Year, Male and Airplay Song of the year for “Dutty Love,” featuring Natty Natasha. This one-day effort brought national attention to the issue of pharmaceutical

controlled substance abuse.

This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. More than seven million Americans currently abuse prescription drugs, according to the 2009 Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration’s National Survey on Drug Use and Health.

“Turning in expired, unwanted or unused prescription and nonprescription drugs

prevents mistaken use and availability to others such as children or individuals who might discover them. It is also environmentally the safest way for disposal,” stated Sheriff Bob Hansell.

Since 2011, the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office’s participation in the program has resulted in 786 pounds of drugs. Citizens who had unwanted prescription drugs could drop them off at four sites in Osceola County.

Anteriormente había estado en la cárcel del Condado Osceola por una violación a su libertad condicional.

The investigation began on April 14 when deputies took a report regarding possible lewd & lascivious battery. Deputies spoke with 15-year-old victim who indicated she had consensual sex with Zaldana a few days ago. Zaldana is a convicted sex offender and is prohibited from having contact with minors. Detectives brought

Zaldana in for questioning and he told them he met the victim in February. She told him she was nineteen years old and they had consensual sex on many occasions. When he found out she was 15-yearsold he ended the relationship and he denied her allegation of recently have sex.
