Educación / Education Valencia presenta nuevo título en tecnología de información en salud Orlando, FL - A medida que más hospitales y consultorios médicos cambian a registros electrónicos de salud, hay una creciente demanda de trabajadores que puedan organizar y gestionar la creciente marea de datos de información de salud.

Para capacitar a los trabajadores de este campo en expansión, Valencia College puso marcha un nuevo programa de estudios de dos años en tecnología de información en salud.

A partir de enero de 2014, el nuevo grado Asociado de Valencia College en Ciencias (AS, por sus siglas en inglés) en tecnología de información de salud capacitará a los estudiantes para puestos de trabajo como técnicos en información de salud, codificadores médicos, analistas de datos de salud, especialistas en liberación de información o documentación y especialistas en codificación.

Valencia unveils new degree in health information technology Orlando, FL - As more hospitals and medical offices switch to electronic health records, there’s a growing demand for workers who can organize and manage the growing tide of health information data. To train workers for this expanding field, Valencia College is launching a new two-year degree program in healthinformation technology.

Starting in January 2014, Valencia College’s new Associate in Science (A.S.) in health information technology will train students for jobs as health information technicians, medical coders, health data analysts, release of information specialists or documentation and coding specialists.

“The Health Information Technology field places students right where the expanding arena of healthcare meets the cutting edge of technology,” said Penny Conners, dean of Valencia College’s Allied Health Division.

“Health information management professionals are the experts on patient data that doctors, nurses and other providers rely on to perform their jobs.“ Although health information technicians do not provide direct patient care, they work regularly with physicians and other healthcare professionals to assemble patients’ medical histories, symptoms, examination results, diagnostic tests, treatment methods, and all other healthcare provider services.

Currently there are 1,200 jobs in Lake, Orange, Osceola, Seminole, and Sumter counties and the number of jobs is estimated to grow by 23 percent by the year 2019. The Postal Service recorded a $15.9 billion net loss last fiscal year and expects to record a loss of roughly $6 billion.

Washington, DC - El Servicio Postal de los Estados Unidos anunció los cambios propuestos en los precios, incluyendo un aumento en el precio de un sobre de correo de primera clase de una sola pieza de 46 centavos a 49 centavos de dólar. New prices for postal services Washington, DC - The United States Postal Service announced proposed price changes, including an increase in the price of a First-Class Mail singlepiece letter from 46 cents to 49 cents.

The proposed changes, which would go into effect in January 2014, are intended to generate $2 billion in incremental annual revenue for the Postal Service.

The Governors of the Postal Service voted Sept. 24 to seek price increases above the typical annual increases associated with changes in the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

In a letter disseminated to customers, Board of Governors Chairman Mickey Barnett described the “precarious financial condition” of the Postal Service and the “uncertain path toward enactment of postal reform legislation” as primary reasons for seeking price changes above the CPI increase. He also indicated that the price adjustment above the CPI increase is necessary in order to ensure that the Postal Service will be able to maintain and continue the development of postal services of the type and quality which America needs.

Local - Noticias / News Develan innovadores apartamentos para familias desamparadas Condado Osceola, FL - Oficiales del Condado Osceola esperan que la conversión de un viejo hotel en vivienda asequible y segura, llamado ahora Victory Village, lleve la batalla contra la falta de vivienda a un nuevo nivel, ayudando a muchas familias en su lucha por una mejor calidad de vida.

“Nadie ha hecho un proyecto como este y esperamos que ofreciendo apartamentos asequibles que están cerca de donde los residentes trabajan y van a la escuela ayudará a los ciudadanos del Condado Osceola que trabajan a diario fuertemente, quienes han tenido que luchar contra dificultades económicas en los últimos años,” dijo el Comisionado del Condado Michael Harford. “Este proyecto es también un paso más en la redefinición de esta sección de la US-192. Hemos tomado una propiedad que estaba en ruinas y la hemos convertido en un bien para nuestra comunidad. Al mismo tiempo hemos creado un lugar al cual 20 familias pueden llamar hogar.”

Innovative Victory Village for homeless families unveiled Osceola County, FL -By converting an old, outmoded hotel into affordable and safe housing for families, officials hope Victory Village will take the battle against homelessness to a new level, helping many families in their fight for a better quality of life.

“No one has done a project like this before. We hope that providing affordable apartments that are close to where residents work and go to school will help the hard-working citizens of Osceola County, who have had to battle historic economic hardships over the last few years,” said County Commissioner Michael Harford. “This project is also another step in redefining this section of U.S. Highway 192. We’ve taken a blighted property and turned into a real asset for our community. At the same time we’ve created a place that 20 families can call home.”

Using public and private funding, the old Four Winds Hotel was converted into a 20-unit apartment complex designed to address

Osceola County’s need for permanent housing for very-low and low-income homeless families. The focus is on those currently living in hotels and motels along the West 192 corridor.

A unique aspect of the project is that the location allows families to live on a major bus line so they can have adequate transportation to work and services. The project was a joint effort with Osceola County, HUD, and the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity through its Neighborhood Stabilization Program.

In August 2012, the County Commission, selected The Transition House as the developer of the project.

Theobald Construction was the general contractor responsible for the rehabilitation of the property.

“For the past 20 years The Transition House has offered services and housing to veterans. It is an honor to partner with HUD, Florida Department of Economic Opportunity and Osceola County to be able to provide

permanent and safe housing to our county’s homeless families. We believe Victory Village will open the door to a brighter future for them,” said Tom Griffin, the CEO and President of the Transition House.

Applications will be taken over the next 2-3 weeks and it is expected that the first residents will move in by the beginning of November, officials said.

Total project budget was approximately $1.8 million. Additional services and community resources will be accessible to the tenants at the Community Hope Center of Osceola, which is a one stop resource center next door to the property.

Rental units range from one to three bedrooms. Victory Village includes a playground, laundry and community center. For more information call 407742-8411.

The Transition House was selected by the Veterans Administration as a partner to begin assisting the growing number of homeless male veterans that were living in homeless tent camps and on the streets of Central Florida. Recognized for the outstanding service provided to its clients, The Transition House, Inc., continues to be a contracted VA Per Diem program serving veterans on their road to recovery and integration back in to society.

“El Josco es un cuento del escritor puertorriqueño Abelardo Días Alfaro el cual narra la valentía de un toro que luchó hasta el final por defender su honor. De igual manera, cada premio lleva el nombre de personalidades destacadas de nuestra historia como pueblo”. Obamacare ¿Eres elegible para créditos en el pago de la prima y cuál es la prima miníma?

Por Luz Stella Arias Orlando, FL - A pocos días que el Mercado de seguros abrió la venta de seguros de salud a través de su pagina oficial las personas continúan frustradas con esta nueva herramienta. La mayoría de los personas no ha podido completar el registro.

Recuerde que tienes hasta el 15 de diciembre 2013 para inscribirse y empezar cobertura el 01 de enero 2014.

Dos de las preguntas más frecuentes son: ¿Quién es elegible para créditos en el pago de las primas?

El crédito fiscal para pago de primas estará disponible para los ciudadanos estadounidenses y los inmigrantes legales que compren cobertura en el mercado y que tienen ingresos entre 100 % y 400 % del nivel federal de pobreza. Estos créditos también están disponibles para los inmigrantes que residen legalmente con ingresos por debajo del 100 por ciento de la línea de pobreza que no son elegibles para Medicaid debido a su estatus migratorio. (Por lo general, los inmigrantes deben residir legalmente en los EE.UU. durante cinco años antes de que puedan ser elegibles para Medicaid.).

Remember you have until December 15, 2013 to enroll and the coverage starts on January 1, 2014.

Who is eligible for marketplace premium tax credits?

Premium tax credit will be available to U.S. citizens and lawfully present

immigrants who purchase coverage in the Marketplace and who have income between 100% and 400% of the federal poverty level. Premium tax credits are also available to lawfully residing immigrants with incomes below 100 percent of the poverty line who are not eligible for Medicaid because of their immigration status.

(Generally, immigrants must lawfully reside in the U.S. for five years before they can become eligible for Medicaid.)

In addition, to be eligible for the premium tax credits, individuals must not be eligible for public coverage— including Medicaid, the Children’s Health Insurance Program, Medicare, or military coverage—and must not have access to health insurance through an employer. (There is an exception in cases when the employer plan is unaffordable because the employee share of the premium exceeds 9.5% of the employee’s

income. There is also an exception in cases where the employer plan doesn’t provide a minimum level of coverage.

What kind of coverage count as minimum essential coverage to satisfy the requirement to have health insurance?

Most people with health coverage today have a plan that will count as minimum essential coverage. The following types of health coverage count as minimum essential coverage: Employer-sponsored group health plans; Union plans; COBRA coverage; and Retiree health plans.

Non-group health insurance that you buy on your own, for example, through the health insurance Marketplace: Student health insurance plans;

Grandfathered health plans; Medicare; Medicaid; The Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP); TRICARE (military health coverage); Veterans’ health care programs; and Peace Corps Volunteer plans Be aware that outside of the Marketplace, other policies be for sale that may look like health insurance (such as short term individual policies, or policies that only cover cancer.) These kinds of products are sometimes referred to as “excepted benefits.” They do not count as Minimum Essential Coverage Because the marketplace websites are still very busy you can call 1800-318-2596 to request a paper application and they will send it to you by regular mail. Como en años anteriores, Viva Osceola presentará lo mejor de la música latina este año. Se contará con la presencia del internacionalmente conocido cantante de salsa puertorriqueño Tony Vega. Se ha dicho que “Tony Vega define su música como salsa clásica con ‘swing’, un sonido fresco, moderno, sin complicaciones, con raíces románticas y tradicionales.” La bella voz de Vega y su habilidad innata de interpretar salsa contemporánea, bajo la mejor tradición de los soneros clásicos, ha sido honrada y refinada a través de sus 19 años como artista.

También presentándose en Viva Osceola estará Lourdes Robles, cantante, compositora y actriz, nacida en San Juan, Puerto Rico. Su carrera comenzó a principios de los 80s como parte del dúo Lourdes y Carlos, grabando dos álbumes. El dúo se separó y Robles comenzó su carrera como solista. Viva Osceola is one of the few Hispanic festivals in Central Florida that it is still FREE to the community.

As in previous years, Viva Osceola will bring the best of Latin music, this year featuring the internationally known Puerto Rican salsa singer Tony Vega. It has been said that “Tony Vega defines its music as classy salsa and swing, a fresh sound, modern, uncomplicated, with a romantic and traditional roots.” The beautiful voice of Vega and his innate ability to perform contemporary salsa, in the best tradition of the classic soneros, have been honed and refined through his 19 years as an artist, first as a drummer and then as a singer.

Until now, Vega took part in the recording of 17 albums, including the last four with his own band and record company RMM. Also featuring this year at Viva Osceola will be Lourdes Robles, a singer-songwriter and actress, born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. On September 25 at approximately 2:23 p.m., Sheriff’s deputies responded to the area of Remington Boulevard and Partin Settlement Road in reference to a possible armed individual after receiving an anonymous 911 call.

Jurado was in front of him slammed on his brakes.

When he reached the intersection he noticed the car was behind him. Jurado exited the vehicle and approached him with what appeared to be a police badge in his hand. The semi truck driver said Jurado was yelling at him that he was a police officer and demanded he pull over onto the side of the road while he called law enforcement. The semi truck driver pulled over and called 911.

Deputies spoke with Jurado who denied showing the semi truck driver a badge. He did tell

Almed Jurado deputies he had a badge because he served as a chaplain but did not work as a chaplain for a law enforcement agency. The badge he showed deputies read “Florida Ministry Association.”
