Puerto Rican Folkloric Ballet celebrates 45 years anniversary in Puerto Rican Parade Kissimmee, FL - As is tradition each year, the Puerto Rican Cultural Center Committee, an organization that sponsors the Florida Puerto Rican Day Parade, nonprofit organization, is calling on the public to participate in their event.

Poinciana - Noticias / News Actualización de propuesta de incorporación de Poinciana Por Keith Laytham, K.Laytham@att.net Poinciana, FL - El pasado lunes, 21 de octubre, Poinciana recibió al Representante Estatal Mike LaRosa como invitado en una reunión comunitaria. El tema era la incorporación de Poinciana.

La situación es que el viernes 1 de noviembre la Delegación Legislativa de Osceola se reunirá para decidir si procede o no que se transmita la propuesta de incorporación actual a la Legislatura de la Florida. A menos que se presente la propuesta, se le puede negar a los ciudadanos de Poinciana el derecho a votar sobre si el gobierno local de Poinciana puede llegar a ser un gobierno municipal de ciudad como el que disfrutan los ciudadanos de Orlando, St. Cloud y las otras 17 ciudades en el condado Polk o si los ciudadanos de Poinciana deben continuar regidos por una asociación de propietarios que en realidad no es dirigida por los propietarios, sino totalmente controlada por Avatar/AV Homes el desarrollador de Poinciana.

En la reunión del 21 de octubre hubo algunas preguntas planteadas que el Rep LaRosa indicó había que responder antes de que él votara para llevar la propuesta de incorporación de Poinciana adelante. PINCHOS, el grupo de ciudadanos de Poinciana que apoya la incorporación contestó estas preguntas:

Poinciana incorporation proposal update

Por Keith Laytham, K.Laytham@att.net Poinciana, FL - Past Monday, October 21, Poinciana hosted State Representative Mike LaRosa as guest at a community meeting. The subject was Poinciana Incorporation. The situation is that on Friday November 1 the Osceola Legislative Delegation will meet to decide whether or not to forward the current incorporation proposal on to the Florida Legislature.

Unless they forward the proposal, they will be denying the citizens of Poinciana the right to vote on whether Poinciana’s local government can become a city municipal government such as enjoyed by the citizens of Kissimmee, St. Cloud and the other 17 cities in Polk County or whether Poinciana citizens must continue ruled by a homeowners association that is in fact not run by the homeowners but completely controlled by Avatar/AV Homes the developer of Poinciana.

At the October 21 meeting there were some questions raised that Rep LaRosa indicated needed to be answered before he would vote to move the Poinciana Incorporation

proposal forward. PINCHOS, the Poinciana citizens group supporting Poinciana Incorporation answered those questions: How much will Poinciana becoming a city cost me?

PINCHOS can now provide to each Poinciana homeowner in writing what they will pay in new city taxes as compared to what they currently pay in HOA fees. For example one concerned homeowner learned that he would pay $21.27 yearly in new city taxes compared to the $252 each year now paid to the APV. Obamacare - Noticias / News Planear retrasar sanciones para los individuos Kissimmee, FL - El gobierno de Obama dijo que retrasaría la imposición de sanciones por seis semanas para algunos consumidores que podrían haber tenido problemas de tiempo para inscribirse en la cobertura a través de los nuevos mercados de seguros de la ley de salud.

Delay Penalties for individuals Kissimmee, FL - The Obama administration said that it would delay imposing penalties for six weeks on some consumers who might have been caught in a sticky timing problem for enrolling in coverage through the health law’s new insurance marketplaces.

Those marketplaces, also known as exchanges, have come under intense scrutiny since opening on Oct. 1 because the technology has malfunctioned. Before is announcement, several Senate Democrats had begun to push the administration to delay the mandate due to the ongoing problems with healthcare.gov, which is preventing many people from signing up for coverage.

On Tuesday, Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H., urged President Barack Obama to extend the health law’s enrollment deadline beyond March 31.

On Wednesday, Sen. Mark Pryor, D-Ark., said he supported Shaheen’s proposal and added that the administration “should state clearly how the enforcement mechanism will work if people can’t sign up in time.” Also Sen. Joe Manchin said in an interview with Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly Wednesday night that he will offer a bill that will delay the individual mandate penalties until 2015. In July, the administration announced it would delay for one year a requirement that businesses with 50 or more workers provide health insurance or pay a fine. But it left in place the requirement that most individuals have coverage or pay fee. Republicans have argued that the administration should delay

Unfortunately, the experience on HealthCare.gov has been frustrating for many Americans. Some have had trouble creating accounts and logging in to the site, while others have received confusing error messages, or had to wait for slow page loads or forms that failed to respond in a timely fashion. The initial consumer experience of HealthCare.gov has not lived up to the expectations of the American people. We are committed to doing better.

Aside from the difficulties since launching the site, there are parts of the overall system that have proved up to the task.

The “Data Hub,” component, which provides HealthCare.gov with information that aids in determining eligibility for qualified health plans, is working. Individuals have been able to verify their eligibility for credits, enabling them to shop for and enroll in a health plans.

What happend, and what are they doing?

Since launch, when we first recognized these issues, we have been working around the clock to make improvements.We have updated the site several times with new code that includes bug fixes that have greatly improved the HealthCare.gov experience. The initial wave of interest stressed the account service, resulting in many consumers experiencing trouble signing up, while those that were able to sign up sometimes had problems logging in.

In response, we have made a number of improvements to the account service. We continued to add more capacity in order to meet demand and execute software fixes to address the sign up and log in issues, stabilizing those parts of the service.

Clarence Thacker is running for Osceola County School Board District 4 seat Osceola County, FL - On October 8th, Clarence Thacker announced that he has filed papers with the Osceola County Supervisor of Elections office to run for Osceola County School Board District 4 seat. “My wife and I both attended Osceola County Public Schools as did our three children. I love our schools and want to help them become the best in the state,” said Thacker as he announced his candidacy on Tuesday.

The Thacker name is not unfamiliar as Clarence is a lifelong resident of Kissimmee. He has served on numerous local government and charitable boards including Toho Water Authority, Osceola Planning Commission, Boy Scouts of America, Silver Spurs Club, Osceola High School SAC committee and the Osceola Center for the Arts. He has a reputation for a common sense approach to problem solving and is known as a consensus builder.

If elected, Mr. Thacker will bring a high level of professionalism to the board along with a strong business background.

He has past budget responsibilities equal to and larger than the Osceola School District’s budget. This experience combined with a BS in Accountancy gives him the practical experience and technical skills to deal with the District’s difficult financial issues.

Clarence sees the role of the School Board as setting policy and goals for the school district that support high educational standards and provide the superintendent and the professional educators with the tools and resources they need to achieve these goals.

“The strength of a community’s educational system is the single most important driver of positive economic development and quality of life,” said Thacker.

The primary election for this race is on August 26, 2014 and the Osceola School Board members are elected by district and are non-partisan offices.

Con el plan de financiamiento finalizado, los ejecutivos del Orlando City SC entrarán en negociaciones finales con la Major League Soccer (MLS) para traer una franquicia a Orlando.

“Estamos emocionados con el voto positivo”, dijo el presidente del Orlando City Phil Rawlins. “Nuestros fans han sido la fuerza impulsora detrás del esfuerzo por traer la MLS en Orlando. Esto es para ellos “.

Orange County approves funding for Orlando Soccer Stadium Orlando, FL - The Orange County Board of Commissioners voted through the approval of funds for a new downtown, multi-purpose soccer stadium on October, 22nd .

With the funding plan now complete, Orlando City SC executives will now enter into final negotiations with Major League Soccer (MLS) to bring a franchise to Orlando.

“We are ecstatic about the positive vote,” said Orlando City President

Phil Rawlins. “Our fans have been the driving force behind the effort to bring MLS to Orlando. This one is for them.”

The vote approved the use of Tourist Development Tax (TDT) funds for multiple venues, including a soccer stadium. The City of Orlando unanimously approved the funding on October 7, completing the financial structure of the proposed soccer stadium.

Club officials have stated that, with approval of funding for a downtown stadium, a franchise could be awarded as early as November. The Lions would begin play in MLS in Spring 2015.

“We thank the Orange County and City of Orlando Board of Commissioners for their support to build a soccer-specific stadium in downtown Orlando’” said MLS President and Deputy Commissioner

Mark Abbott.

Latin Food and Wine Festival 2013 Festival Latino de Vinos y Comida de la CCHMO Orlando, FL - La Cámara de Comercio Hispana de Metro Orlando (HCCMO, por sus siglas en inglés) celebró su Quinto Festival Anual de Vinos y Comida con una asistencia de más de 25,000 personas en Cranes Roost Park en Uptown Altamonte. El festival presentado por Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, es considerado como el principal evento culinario con un toque latino en la Florida Central, un final perfecto para la celebración del mes de la Hispanidad.

En la noche del viernes, 18 de octubre la cámara celebró la apertura del festival con Savor the Night, un evento VIP que reunió a más de 600 personas. HCCMO’s 2013 Latin Food and Wine Festival Orlando, FL The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metro Orlando hosted its 5th annual Latin Food and Wine Festival over the weekend with over 25,000 guests that gathered at the beautiful Cranes Roost Park in Uptown Altamonte. The festival, presented by Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, is considered the premier culinary and wine festival in Central Florida with a Latin flair and was the perfect closing to the many celebrations that took place during Hispanic Heritage Month.

The night before the Grand Tasting, on Friday, October 18, the festival was kicked off with Savor the Night, a ticketed event hosting 600 VIPs. Guests enjoyed delicious dishes from high-end restaurants, exquisite desserts and an array of wines and spirits. The event also featured music from a flamenco guitarist, a cigar lounge and a silent auction.

On Saturday, October 19th, the Grand Tasting hosted over 25,000 food and wine aficionados at the spectacular Crane’s Roost Park.

The low price range of $1 to $7 gave an opportunity for attendees to

OCIB Arrests 19 in Methamphetamine Operation Osceola County, FL - The Osceola County Investigative Bureau (OCIB) in conjunction with specialty units from the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, Kissimmee Police Department and St. Cloud Police Department, ended a 5-month investigation targeting a large group of individuals trafficking in pseudoephedrine, manufacturing methamphetamine, and trafficking in methamphetamine. All of this can be possible if the representatives in the Polk and Osceola Legislative Delegations will support the Poinciana citizens by allowing a properly worded Poinciana Incorporation Bill to be submitted for approval by the Florida Legislature.

The issue would then be either approved or disapproved by the registered voters of Poinciana in the November 2014 elections.

Should members of the legislative delegations have additional questions PINCHOS will welcome

the opportunity to answer them. All they ask is to be given advance notice of the questions should additional research be required, and that they be able to answer the questions publicly in advance of the legislative delegation meetings.

The Poinciana Incorporation proposal, like all municipal incorporation proposals in Florida, is a controversial issue with citizens having feelings both for and against. Poinciana is asking the Osceola Legislative Delegation to allow the citizens to decide the issue in an election hopefully to be held in November 2014. With 26,000+ registered voters in Poinciana they should have the opportunity to decide.

Orlando Ballet Katia Garza hizo su última presentación con el Orlando Ballet Por Eugenia Hernández Orlando, FL - El pasado 20 de octubre, la Prima Ballerina Katia Garza hizo su última actuación con el Orlando Ballet en el Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre. En el espectáculo “Tributo”, bailó “Don Quijote Pas de Deux”, con Lamin Pereira.

Durante catorce años, ella fue una de las bailarinas más reconocidas del Orlando Ballet. Interpretó papeles principales en obras como Don Quijote, Giselle y la Bella Durmiente o fue la princesa Odette en “El Lago de los Cisnes”, o el Hada de Azúcar en “El Cascanueces”.

Nativa de Piedras Negras, México, Katia comenzó su entrenamiento en Monterrey, México. En 1995, se unió al Ballet de Monterrey, y se convirtió en su bailarina principal bajo la dirección de Fernando Bujones. Katia ganó la medalla de plata en 1991 en el Concurso Internacional de Ballet en Perú y fue finalista en el Concurso Internacional de Ballet de 2002 en Jackson, MS.

Katia Garza made her last Orlando Ballet Performance

By Eugenia Hernández Orlando, FL - On October 20, Prima Ballerina Katia Garza, made her last performance with the Orlando Ballet at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre. At the show Tribute, she danced “Don

Quijote Pas de Deux” with Lamin Pereira.

For fourteen years, she was one of the most recognizable dancers of the Orlando Ballet. She performed principal roles in Don Quixote, Giselle and Sleeping Beauty or was Princess Odette in “Swan Lake” or the Sugar Plum Fairy in “The Nutcracker”, among many others.

Native of Piedras Negras, Mexico, Katia began her training in Monterrey, Mexico. In 1995, she joined Ballet de Monterrey, and became a principal dancer under the direction of Fernando Bujones. Katia won the silver medal in 1991 at the International Ballet Competition in Peru and was a finalist at the 2002 International Ballet Competition in Jackson, MS. In her Facebook page Garza wrote on October 20, that she was “so excited to have the opportunity to thank the Orlando Community for their support in all this years and for their love to my husband Israel and myself. Thank You.”

Victor Oladipo, has continued to wow fans during preseason, his stats have read impressive, commanding over 20 points two out of the last three games.

Orlando, FL - El novato del Orlando Magic, Victor Oladipo, ha seguido sorprendiendo a los fans durante la pretemporada. Sus estadísticas han sido impresionantes, marcando más de 20 puntos en dos de los últimos tres partidos.

By Amanda Ludick Orlando, FL - The Orlando Magic’s rookie, Victor Oladipo, has continued to wow fans during preseason.

His stats have read impressive, commanding over 20 points two out of the last three games. He has also averaged about five assists and rebounds the last three games.

Oladipo is expected to bring a lot to the Magic this season, acting as a sub for Jameer Nelson and Aaron Afflalo, and so far he has.

With cuts still to be made and Glen Davis still recovering from an injury, the starting power forward position still seems to be available.

Coach Jacque Vaughn has still been experimenting with line ups but so far the strongest choice looks like Jason Maxiell. This will be Maxiell’s ninth year in the league and seems to compliment Nik Vucevic’s playing style very well.

Another option would be to play Andrew Nicholson. While this is only Nicholson’s second year in the league, he has added a corner three and is a proven threat on offense.

Nicholson does not seem to have improved on defense or bulked up like the other young players did this summer.

The fan favorite, Tobias Harris, is another choice. Coming to Magic at the end of last February, Harris took the opportunity to show what he is capable of. His goal of becoming an All-Star is in reach for this fourth year player. Harris has continued to improve his game adding consistency to his game. Harris

made all three of his three-point attempts in the Magic’s 87 to 86 win over the Detroit Pistons. Harris had sat out the previous two games and left late in the third with a sore left ankle. He is likely to rest until the start of regular season on October 29.

Jameer Nelson and Nik Vucevic also sat out for the game against the San Antonio Spurs. Afflalo, Maxiell, and Oladipo would lead the Magic in points but San Antonio’s healthy, veteran team proved too much for this very young Magic team. Tony Parker did not dress but that did not stop the Spurs from a 123 to 101 victory over the Magic. Kyle O’Quinn hustled and was able to rack up ten points, nine rebounds, five assists, and two blocks. Part of the game plan for the Magic was to get to the line more. Drawing fouls was a huge issue last season and is still something Orlando needs to work on. During the San Antonio game, the Magic made it to the line just nine times compared to San Antonio who had 22 free throw attempts. While the extra 13 attempts would not have made this game, it would have given the Magic the opportunity to change to tempo of the game.

The Magic will host the New Orleans Pelicans tonight. This is the last preseason game for the Magic and the last opportunity for many of these guys before the Magic make cuts to finalize the roster. The Magic will play their first regular season game Tuesday October 29 in Indiana.
