By Jose Javier Diaz - PRFAA Kissimmee, FL - With efforts from the Governor and PRFAA we achieved positive results for the 513,000 patients from the program “Platino” and “Medicare Advantage” in Puerto Rico. On April 1, 2013 the Department of Health and Human Services announced that beginning January 1st, 2014 they will make important adjustments to methods of payments for health services for our population that uses Medicare.

These adjustments guarantee the protection of over $100 million funds that could have been lost in 2014.

We were included in the proposal of reform contribute international that was presented November 19, from the Chairman of the Finance Committee of the Senate, Max Baucus, in which they recognized the unique condition of Puerto Rico to receive preferential treatment and that way can generate more and better jobs.

New funds were identified for state agencies for a total of $227.6 million in federal funds. In September 2013 we ensured the support of the President of the Senate Agricultural Committee, Debbie Stabenow and Congressman Collin Peterson, the highest ranking Democrat on the Committee on Agriculture of the House, to eliminate a provision in the bill to reauthorize agricultural expenditure that would restrict the 25% cash heading PAN and affect $1.4 million beneficiaries of the program in Puerto Rico.

Obamacare - Noticias / News Ley de Cuidado de Salud ya está ayudando a familias de Florida Washington, DC - De acuerdo a un nuevo reporte, millones de floridanos ya están sacándole provecho a los muchos beneficios de Ley de Cuidado de Salud a Bajo Precio. El Congresista Alan Grayson (FL-09) dijo que los números son buenas noticias para los Floridanos sin seguro de salud y que ayudará a los que ya si tienen acceso a un seguro de salud a recibir un cuidado de salud de mejor calidad.

De acuerdo a un nuevo reporte emitido la semana pasada por el Departamento de Salud y Servicios Humanos, más de 150,000 floridanos completaron la solicitud para obtener seguro de salud a través de Cuidadodesalud.gov (HealthCare.

Gov) entre el 1ro de octubre y 30 de noviembre. Cerca de 18,000 personas escogieron un plan y se inscribieron bajo un plan de cobertura.

“La Ley de Cuidado de Salud a Bajo Precio está haciendo precisamente lo que necesitamos que haga: está permitiendo a los Floridanos sin seguro de salud apuntarse para poder obtener una cobertura confiable y a bajo precio,” dijo Grayson.

Además de proporcionar opciones de coberturas de seguro de salud a bajo precio para los floridanos sin seguro, la Ley de Cuidado de Salud a Bajo Precio también está mejorando la calidad de la cobertura para millones de familias de la Florida. • Link 44 - Hiawassee Road/Zellwood (Orange County) - Will no longer operate within the Errol Plaza parking lot. The route will be realigned to Errol Parkway. Passengers will be able to access the shops within the plaza from bus stops located along U.S. 441 and Errol Parkway.

• Link 50 - Downtown Orlando/Magic Kingdom (Orange County) - Daily frequency will increase to every 20 minutes 5:15-8:15 a.m. and 4:15-6:15 p.m.

• Link 54 - Old Winter Garden Road (Orange County) - Minor weekday and Saturday schedule adjustments.

• Link 55 - West U.S. 192/Citrus Ridge (Osceola County) - Will serve Osceola Square Mall on U.S. 192 as a stop only. Service to LYNX Kissimmee Intermodal Station via U.S. 192, Central Avenue and Neptune Road.

• Link 57 - John Young Parkway (Orange County/Osceola County) - Will no longer serve Columbia Street and the Osceola Square Mall. The new alignment will stay on John Young Parkway to Emmett Street and service Link 108 (former Link 4) stops. It will then travel along Main Street and head east on Neptune Boulevard to the LYNX Kissimmee Intermodal Station.

• Link 104 - East Colonial (Orange County) - The last four weekday and Saturday trips from LYNX Central Station will depart at :15. The last daily trip to the University of Central Florida SuperStop will depart at 10:15 p.m. The last four weekday trips from the University of Central Florida SuperStop will depart at :11.

• Link 105 - West Colonial - All trips will be realigned to better serve the Westside Tech Center on Story Road in Winter Garden along with additional schedule adjustments.

• Link 125 - Silver Star Road Crosstown (Orange County) Weekday route will operate every 20 minutes 6-9 a.m. and 2-7:15 p.m. The 9:45 p.m.-12:45 a.m. trips will operate every 60 minutes.

• Link 304 - Downtown Disney Direct (Orange County) - Will now depart LYNX Central station at 6 a.m., travel non-stop to Orange Blossom Trail and Anderson Street to operate under its current routing, and arrive Downtown Disney at 7 a.m.

• Link 426 - Poinciana Circulator (Osceola County) - Minor schedule adjustments.

• FastLink 441 (Osceola County) - Route will no longer serve Osceola Square Mall. The new alignment will be LYNX Central Station to the LYNX Kissimmee Intermodal Station.

The major change will be moving the Osceola County transfer hub from Osceola Square Mall to the new LYNX Kissimmee Intermodal Station.

LYNX announces January service changes Orlando, FL The Central Florida Regional Transportation Authority (LYNX) will make system-wide efficiencies effective Jan. 12, 2014.

The major change will be moving the Osceola County transfer hub from Osceola Square Mall to the new LYNX Kissimmee Intermodal Station. Links 10, 18, 26, 55, 57, 108 (formerly Link 4) and FastLink 441 will utilize the facility in downtown Kissimmee.

Another major January modification will be to renumber Link 17 to Link 106.

Other efficiencies proposed include routing or time changes on Links 3, 8, 20, 21, 25, 38, 44, 50,54, 104, 105, 125, 304 and 426.

The next service efficiencies are scheduled to take place April 6, 2014. However, this date may change based on the startup of SunRail.

Impuestos / Taxes La temporada tributaria del 2014 iniciará el 31 de enero Washington D.C. - El Servicio de Impuestos Internos (IRS, por sus siglas en inglés) anunció planes para iniciar la temporada de impuestos del 2014 el 31 de enero y exhortó a los contribuyentes a presentar sus declaraciones de impuestos usando e-file o Free File, ya que así recibirán más rápidamente sus reembolsos.

La nueva fecha de apertura para que las personas presenten sus declaraciones de impuestos del 2013, le dará al IRS tiempo suficiente para programar y probar los sistemas de procesamiento de impuestos. El proceso anual para la actualización de los sistemas del IRS se retrasó tras el cierre del gobierno federal de 16 días.

“Nuestra fuerza laboral ha estado trabajando arduamente durante el otoño para prepararse para la próxima temporada de impuestos”, dijo Danny Werfel, Comisionado Interino del IRS. “La apertura tardía de enero nos da suficiente tiempo para programar, probar y autenticar nuestros sistemas. Es un proceso

complejo, y nuestra meta es proveer una temporada de impuestos y reembolsos libre de problemas para los contribuyentes de la nación”.

El cierre del gobierno ocasionó que el IRS cambiara la fecha original de apertura del 21 de enero al 31 de enero del 2014. La fecha del 2014 es un día más tarde que el inició de la temporada de impuestos del 2013, la cual empezó el 30 de enero, después de los cambios tributarios de ley efectuados por el Congreso el primero de enero bajo el Acta Americana de Alivio a los Contribuyentes (ATRA, por su siglas en inglés). El extenso conjunto de cambios tributarios de ATRA afectó muchas de las declaraciones de impuestos del 2012, a causa de la apertura tardía de enero.

El IRS señalo que hay varias opciones disponibles para ayudar a los contribuyentes a prepararse para la temporada de impuestos del 2014 y así obtener sus reembolsos de la manera más fácil posible.

2014 Tax season to open on January 31st Washington, DC - The Internal Revenue Service today announced plans to open the 2014 filing season on January 31st and encouraged taxpayers to use e-file or Free File as the fastest way to receive refunds.

The new opening date for individuals to file their 2013 tax returns will allow the IRS adequate time to program and test its tax processing systems.

The annual process for updating IRS systems saw significant delays in October following the 16-day federal government closure.

“Our teams have been working hard throughout the fall to prepare for the upcoming tax season,” IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel said.

“The late January opening gives us enough time to get things right with our programming, testing and systems validation. It’s a complex process, and our bottom-line goal is to provide a smooth filing and refund process for the nation’s taxpayers.”

The government closure meant the IRS had to change the original opening date from Jan. 21 to Jan. 31, 2014. The 2014 date is one day later than the 2013 filing season opening, which started on Jan. 30, 2013 following January tax law changes made by Congress on Jan. 1 under the American Taxpayer Relief Act (ATRA). The extensive set of ATRA tax changes affected many 2012 tax returns, which led to the late January opening.

The IRS noted that several options are available to help taxpayers prepare for the 2014 tax season and get their

refunds as easily as possible. New year-end tax planning information has been added to IRS.gov this week.

In addition, many software companies are expected to begin accepting tax returns in January and hold those returns until the IRS systems open on Jan. 31. More details will be available in January.

The IRS cautioned that it will not process any tax returns before Jan. 31, so there is no advantage to filing on paper before the opening date.

Taxpayers will receive their tax refunds much faster by using e-file or Free File with the direct deposit option.

The April 15 tax deadline is set by statute and will remain in place.

However, the IRS reminds taxpayers that anyone can request an automatic six-month extension to file their tax return. The request is easily done with Form 4868, which can be filed electronically or on paper.

IRS systems, applications and databases must be updated annually to reflect tax law updates, business process changes and programming updates in time for the start of the filing season.

The October closure came during the peak period for preparing IRS systems for the 2014 filing season.

Programming, testing and deployment of more than 50 IRS systems is needed to handle processing of nearly 150 million tax returns. Updating these core systems is a complex, year-round process with the majority of the work beginning in the fall of each year.

City of Kissimmee hosts 18th annual Kissimmee Sunshine Regional Chili Cook-Off Kissimmee, FL - The City of Kissimmee will host the 18th Annual Kissimmee Sunshine Regional Chili Cookoff event on Saturday, January 18, 2014 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Kissimmee Lakefront Park Civic Lawn.

Competitors from across the state of Florida and throughout the Nation will show off their cooking skills at this International Chili Society sanctioned event. Participants battle for cash prizes in several competitive categories including Red Chili, Chili Verde, Salsa, People’s Choice and the newly added Homestyle category.

The new Homestyle category is defined by the International Chili Society as “The cook’s favorite combination of ingredients resulting in a dish seasoned with chili peppers and spices”.

Local dignitaries, experienced chili judges and event sponsors will serve as official judges of the chili. Spectators can participate by casting their vote for the People’s Choice Award from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. The general public will be able to sample all of the competitor’s chili after they submit their entries to the judges at 3:30 p.m.

The event will have over $4,000 in cash/ prizes, including $1,500 for the 1st place winner.

All competitive cooking is done on site and over 50 competitors battled in last year’s event with even more expected this

New Bachelor’s degree in Logistics Management Orlando, FL - Valencia College and Florida Institute of Technology are partnering to offer Valencia students the chance to earn a bachelor’s degree in logistics management at Valencia’s Lake Nona Campus, beginning in the fall semester of 2014.

The logistics management degree will be a 2+2 program, designed for students who earn an Associate in Arts degree at Valencia with a pre-major in logistics management. Day Camp – School is out and fun is in Jan. 17, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the Civic Center. Camp is for children 5 years old (kindergarten completed) to 14 years old. The day camp fee is $20 per child for Osceola County residents and $25 for nonresidents of Osceola County.

Kids Night Out – The first Kids Night Out of the new year is set for Jan. 18, 7-11 p.m., at the Civic Center. It’s a Pajama Party evening and the cost is $10 per child (dinner and dessert included). The Kids Night Out program offers supervised care and fun activities for children ages 7-11 while parents enjoy an evening to themselves.

Air-Potato Mega Raid – Everyone is invited to an Air-Potato Mega Raid Jan. 25, 9:30-11:30 a.m., PegHorn Nature Park and Trail. The air-potato (Dioscorea bulbifera) is an invasive plant. Volunteers are asked to bring their own gardening or working gloves. This event is free and for all ages.

Night with The Magic – Orlando Magic vs. Milwaukee Bucks game tickets for Jan. 31 selling at the Civic Center. A bus leaves the Civic Center at 5 p.m. This trip is for all ages; $38 per person. Children ages 12 years old and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Tickets must be purchased by Jan. 24.

Sheriff & Police - Noticias / News Detienen a médico sin licencia en Kissimmee Tallahassee, FL. - La Unidad de actividad sin licencia del Departamento de Salud de Florida en Orlando (ULA, por sus siglas en inglés) anunció una investigación conjunta con la Oficina Metropolitana de Investigaciones (MBI, por sus siglas en inglés). La investigación llevó a la detención de Ugarriza Fuentes por dos cargos de práctica de medicina sin licencia, que es un delito de tercer grado y punible con hasta cinco años de prisión. El Departamento emitió una cesación formal a Ugarriza Fuentes y una orden para desistir de la práctica de medicina sin licencia y una citación por actividad sin licencia por la cantidad de $4,427.00.

Joint investigation leads to arrest in Kissimmee Tallahassee, FL - The Florida Department of Health’s Orlando Unlicensed Activity (ULA) Unit announced a joint investigation with the Metropolitan Bureau of Investigation (MBI). The investigation led to the arrest of Ugarriza Fuentes for two counts of the practice of medicine without a license, which is a third degree felony and punishable by up to five years in prison. The Department issued Ugarriza Fuentes a Formal Cease and Desist Order for the Unlicensed Practice of Medicine and a Uniform Unlicensed Activity Citation for the amount of $4,427.00.

The joint operation was conducted after information was received by the Department alleging Ugarriza Fuentes was practicing a healthcare profession without being licensed by the Florida Department of Health.

The information stated Ugarriza Fuentes was performing liposuction surgeries after examining patients in an office located in Kissimmee.

The Department’s Unlicensed Activity Investigator visited the Clinic located on Osceola Parkway in Kissimmee posing as a boyfriend of a potential patient. Ugarriza

Fuentes offered different services including liposuction surgeries.

The information was provided to the MBI. Two MBI investigators conducted an undercover operation at the establishment. Fuentes gave a consultation to the undercover officers and offered to perform liposuction surgery at a later date.

On December 19, 2013 MBI along with the Department’s Unlicensed Activity Investigator returned to the establishment. Fuentes was arrested and booked in the Osceola County jail on two charges of Practicing Medicine without a license a third

degree felony with $100,000 and $25,000 bond, respectively.

DOH has several resources to combat unlicensed activity: • Consumers are encouraged to use DOH’s Web site www.flhealthsource. com where users may conveniently view the license information of their health care practitioner.

By Amanda Ludick Orlando, FL - The Orlando Magic had several close games over the holidays. Tobias Harris returned to the starting line up alongside Jameer Nelson, Arron Afflalo, Nikola Vucevic and Glen Davis. Harris has been out

most of the season with an ankle injury. He is still getting back into the groove but had no problem putting up some points against the Sacramento Kings putting up 21 points with four rebounds and 2 assists. Afflalo would go for 26 while Nelson had 13 and Davis 10. Nik Vucevic put up

a good fight with nine rebounds. He was challenged by Sacramento’s DeMarcus Cousins. Victor Oladipo came off the bench to put up 12 points in the 105 to 100 loss.

The Magic hosted the New York Knicks the Monday before Christmas.

This was another example of a terrible performance by Orlando’s bench forcing Coach Jacque Vaughn to play the starters long minutes with fewer rotations. Starters made 88 of Orlando’s 98 total points. Both Jameer Nelson and Nik Vucevic would have double doubles but it wasn’t enough to make up for an error-filled second quarter. The Knicks took the “w” with 103 points.

The Magic players had three days before facing the Detroit Pistons and the rest proved it was needed. The team looked determined and played with strong aggression. Oladipo, Harris and Vucevic would all finish the game with double doubles. Orlando also finished the game with over 50 percent field goal percentage which made the 109 to 92 victory look very easy.

The winning streak would continue against the Atlanta Hawks. The Magic put up a strong fight and outscored Atlanta 46 to 26 in the paint. This would also be a season high for the Magic with 30 assists. All five starters had double digit points along with

Moe Harkless and Victor Oladipo off the bench. Orlando was able to hold the lead for the majority of the game.

Andrew Nicholson played eight short minutes but seems to have fallen into a slump. He was zero for three in his shot attempts. Nicholson is one of those players you desperately want to see do well, but his inconsistent play can be extremely frustrating.

Orlando was unable to ring in the New Year with victory cheers after a 94 to 81 loss against the Golden State Warriors. Andre Iguodala and Stephen Curry proved too much for the Magic. The Warriors kept the Magic under 40 percent field goal percentage. Nik Vucevic also left the game in the middle of the first quarter with a sprained ankle; the same ankle that caused him to miss four games earlier this season.

But with the New Year comes new hopes. Important dates coming up include January 6, ten day contracts can now be signed, and January 10, all contracts become guaranteed for the remainder of the season. The trade deadline is not until February 20. There are countless rumors regarding the Magic and a trade, but what Magic GM, Rob Hennigan, has proved is that he and his team stay quiet until they reach an agreement.

With Orlando still rebuilding anything is possible.
