Osceola County - Noticias / News Habrá boda colectiva gratis en el Histórico Palacio de Justicia el Día de San Valentín Kissimmee, FL - Armando Ramírez, Secretario del Tribunal de Circuito del Condado Osceola, será el anfitrión de una boda en grupo en el Histórico Palacio de Justicia de Kissimmee el Día de San Valentín, viernes, 14 de febrero.

Freee group wedding at the Historical Courthouse on Valentine’s Day Kissimmee, FL Armando Ramirez, Osceola County Clerk of the Circuit Court, will be hosting a group wedding at the Historical Courthouse in Kissimmee on Valentine’s Day, Friday, February 14.

Our 123-year-old Romanesque Revival building is the oldest courthouse in continuous use in the State of Florida—and one of the best examples of late 19th century public architecture in Florida. This is an excellent backdrop for a very special day for the happy couples.

The Clerk has waived the normal $30 fee to perform the marriage ceremony for the first 30 couples who register. Standard marriage license fees will still apply. To participate, couples must sign up at the Osceola County Clerk’s Marriage & Passport office by Tuesday, February 11th.

In order to be eligible to register and participate in the 2014 Valentine wedding event, couples must have purchased an application for a marriage license between December 17, 2013 and on or before February 11, 2014.

The ceremony will take place at 2:00 p.m. in front of the Osceola County Courthouse at 3 Courthouse Square, Kissimmee. Couples will receive a special, commemorative marriage certificate, which will be mailed within one week from the date of the ceremony with the official certificate of marriage. All couples should arrive at the Courthouse by 1:00 p.m. on the day of the event with their marriage license and identification.

To enhance their special day, the Clerk will be offering the marriage ceremony in English and Spanish.

Valencia College - Noticias / News Inca Rose interpretará música tradicional Latinoamericana Orlando, F.L. - El Duo Inca Rose, un par de músicos que usan la música para desarrollar el entendimiento intercultural entre las Américas, interpretará música tradicional sudamericana en Valencia College el 11 de febrero.

Orlando, FL Los alumnos y profesores de contabilidad de Valencia College estarán ofreciendo ayuda gratuita al público los sábados durante febrero, marzo y abril en el Recinto Este del college.

Transportación / Transportation Ya está funcionando la nueva estación intermodal LYNX de Kissimmee Condado Osceola, F.L. - Desde el 12 de enero, la nueva Estación Intermodal de Kissimmee empezó a funcionar para hacer más fácil la vida de los usuarios que dependen de LYNX para viajar desde su casa a su trabajo o sitio de estudio.

Este gran cambio, que traslada el centro de transferencia del Condado Osceola del Osceola Square Mall al centro de Kissimmee hizo posible agregar nuevas rutas como la 631 que funcionará de lunes a viernes

New LYNX Kissimmee intermodal station is open Osceola County, FL Since January 12th the new Kissimmee Intermodal Station is fully operational to make easier the life of the users who rely on LYNX to travel from home to class or work.

This big change, which move the Osceola County transfer hub from Osceola Square Mall to downtown Kissimmee, make possible some additions like the expanded Neighborhood Link 631 which will operate Monday through Friday and run 2 1/2 hours longer at night (until 10:25 p.m.) to coincide with the end of classes at the campuses of Valencia College and TECO. Neighborhood Link 631 serves the Buenaventura Lakes area where there is a large population of citizens who attend class after normal working hours.

Neighborhood Link 632 is a new route based out of the Kissimmee Intermodal Station that

will serve north Kissimmee until 11 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Commissioners approved the route adjustments as part of a series of changes late last year.

The Central Florida Regional Transportation Authority (LYNX) announced that Links 10, 18, 26, 55, 57, 108 (formerly Link 4) and FastLink 441 will utilize the facility in downtown Kissimmee. Cost savings from the changes to those routes allowed for the expansion of service hours for NeighborLink, which is part of a flex-service. It is aimed to make it easier for residents living in lesspopulated areas to make use of both local transportation and LYNX’ local bus system.

Residents in the designated area must call 407-244-0808 at least two hours before they want to leave their home and schedule a pickup time.

A NeighborLink vehicle will pick up residents and bring them back, if needed. The operator will provide transportation anywhere within the designated service area or to a LYNX local bus stop, such as Valencia College or TECO campuses. Lynx offers subscription service to those of you traveling regularly to the same place at the same time/day each week. This means you won’t have to call in advance to book these trips.

Salud / Health Cáncer de pulmón - El cáncer más mortal Por Donald R. Elton, MD, FCCP Condado Osceola, FL El cáncer de pulmón mata a más personas que los siguientes 4 tipos de cáncer mortales combinados.

La tasa global de curación para el cáncer de pulmón sigue siendo menos de 15% en gran parte porque los cánceres de pulmón pueden crecer durante años antes de que aparezcan los síntomas. De hecho, 75% de los pacientes con cáncer de pulmón avanzado ya tienen la enfermedad incurable en el momento del diagnóstico.

La mayoría de los pacientes con cáncer del pulmón que se pueden curar

Lung cancer - The most deadly cancer

By Donald R. Elton, MD, FCCP Osceola County, FL Lung cancer kills more people than the 4 most deadly cancers combined. The overall cure rate for lung cancer is still less than 15% largely because lung cancers can grow for years before symptoms occur. In fact, 75% of patients with lung cancer already advanced to incurable disease at the time of diagnosis.

Most patients with curable lung cancer have their cancer discovered accidentally when an x-ray or CT scan is done to evaluate some other problem. These curable lung cancers are cured because they can be surgically removed before they have a chance to spread and before they cause any obvious symptoms.

The American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP) now recommends that patients at high

risk for lung cancer have annual low radiation dose CT scans to screen for lung cancer. This can detect tumors at an early usually curable stage.

Most lung cancers are caused by smoking and can even occur decades after quitting smoking. Lung cancer in patients who have never smoked is rare but not impossible.

Symptoms suggesting a need for a lung cancer evaluation include a cough that persists longer than 2 months, unexplained chest pain, shortness of breath, unexplained weight loss, or blood in the sputum.

Kissimmee Police Remind Citizens to Lock Cars Kissimmee, FL - Members of the Kissimmee Police Department walked through the Lakeside Community reminding residents to lock their car doors, keep items out of view and to report suspicious activity.

Between the evening hours of January 9 and the early morning hours of January 10, 2014, a total of 11 vehicles were burglarized in the Lakeside Community.

All of the vehicles were left unlocked and various items were stolen. Members of the Problem Oriented Policing Unit made the residents of Lakeside aware of the burglaries and handed out flyers reminding them to keep their vehicles locked. Additionally, a message board sign will be placed on Lakeside Drive with a message of Lock your Cars and Report Any Suspicious Activity.

Father throws his son from a two story hotel Kissimmee, FL - Kissimmee police detectives have obtained an arrest warrant for 41-year-old Juan Pablo Maradiaga charging him with attempted murder.

Once discharged from the hospital, Juan Pablo Maradiaga will be transported to jail.

On January 10, deputies responded to the area of Carroll Street and Orange Blossom Trail. Upon arrival, deputies spoke with a 16-year old girl who indicated she was walking in the area of Carroll Street and Central Avenue earlier in the morning with her brother when they saw a two-door white Honda approach them from a side street. The driver rolled down his window and looked at them and drove away. The victim saw the driver turn around and approach them again. He asked her if she wanted a ride and when she said no, he drove down the street, turned around and approached them a third time. He asked the victim if she wanted to perform a sexual act.

The victim and her brother ran to Star Elite Academy and notified an adult.

The driver drove eastbound on Carroll Street and turned north onto Orange Blossom Trail.

The driver is described as a heavy set Hispanic male wearing a black shirt and dark colored baseball cap worn backwards.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office at (407) 348-2222 or Crimeline at (800) 423-TIPS (8477).

Osceola County Sheriff’s deputies want to encourage parents to talk to their children about strangers. Remind your child that they should not take walks or rides with a stranger, and they should not accept gifts, candy or food from people that they do not know.

Disappointing west-coast trip

By Amanda Ludick Orlando, FL - The Orlando Magic are finally home after a disappointing westcoast road trip.

The magic suffered a 83 to 103 loss in Sacramento against the Kings. Jameer Nelson suffered and uncharacteristic night with only six points, four rebounds and eight assists. Tobias Harris led the Magic in scoring with 16 points.

Arron Afflalo, Orlando’s overall leading scorer, injured his right foot during this game and has not played since.

Working their way back east, the Magic stopped in Denver to play the Nuggets. Tobias Harris put up 22 points with nine rebounds and four assists while Glen Davis added twenty of his own points. Jameer Nelson and E’Twaun Moore contributed ten each but it was not enough to stop a blow out. The Nuggets had their way with the Magic finishing with a 120 to 94 victory over Orlando.

As they say “when the going gets tough, the tough get going” and that’s exactly what I wish the Magic would have done. But instead of finishing their road trip with a win, the Dallas Mavericks eased their way to a 107 to 88 victory over Orlando. The Magic is still playing without center, Nik Vucevic, who is out due to a concussion. Without their leading big guy, the Mavericks were able to put up 34 points in the paint and out rebound the Magic.

These losses are tough on the team and can be tough on fans. Especially when the Magic perform the way they did Wednesday night against the Chicago Bulls at the Amway Center.

This game was easily the best game of the season in that it was the definition of a nail biter. By the end of the first half the Magic led by three. Orlando was playing good, controlled basketball, which fans have not seen since the start of the west coast road trip. Now back home, the Magic seemed to rally together and played the best game of each of their season. They blew a fifteen point lead at the end of the game and Chicago tied it up to take the game into overtime. After five minutes of play, they overtime resulted in a second overtime. With just seconds left to play, Chicago led by three. The Magic had one play to tie the game and take it to a third overtime. The ball landed in Big Baby’s hands and the three point line. With pain in my heart cause he’s the last person I wanted to take the shot, he shot the jumper and to some miracle it went in taking the Magic to a third overtime. The Magic weren’t able to pull off a victory but the 128 to 125 loss was easily the best game I’ve seen out of these guys all season.

Glen Davis finished with 17 points, nine rebounds, two steals and two assists. Tobias Harris had 22 points and 16 rebounds. Jameer Nelson and Victor Oladipo played like they were battling for the starting point guard position. Nelson finished with 31 points, ten assists and six rebounds

while Oladipo had 35 points, eight assists and three steals. Most impressive to me was Kyle O’Quinn.

The second year center had 12 points, seven rebounds and three blocks. It’s nice to see O’Quinn put up the stats he is more than capable of.

The Magic are now 0 and 11 without Nik Vucevic and 0 for four in overtime games but the team is still fighting and putting up incredible numbers.

The Magic host the Charlotte Bobcats tonight at the Amway center. Both teams are evenly matched and this should be another nail biter. Only this time, let’s hope the Magic can pull off the win.
