To encourage students to read, she handed out 100,000 free books to students in kindergarten through third grade across the district on June 2, 2014.

Osceola County - Noticias / News Posible ahorro en seguros de propiedad para residentes de Osceola Condado Osceola, FL - Invierte poco; ahorra mucho. La compra de un camión cisterna usado por menos de $80,000 debe ahorrar cientos de dólares cada año en las primas de seguros para 20,000 propietarios de viviendas y dueños de negocios en el Condado Osceola. La Organización de Servicios de Seguros, Inc. (ISO, siglas en inglés) asigna puntuación a la comunidad en general, con compañías de seguros individuales para así desarrollar primas a base de esa puntuación como una comunidad. Cuando el proceso esté terminado, los ciudadanos de las zonas afectadas tendrán que notificar a su compañía de seguro para saber cual es el posible ahorro en su póliza como propietario. Este año, al Condado Osceola se le hizo una evaluación a sus operaciones de transporte por parte de la agencia ISO para determinar si podría calificar como un suministro alternativo de agua. Potential homeowner insurance savings for Osceola residents Osceola County, FL - Spend a little, save a lot. Purchasing a used tanker truck for less than $80,000 should save hundreds of dollars each year in insurance premiums for 20,000 Osceola County homeowners and businesses. Insurance Service Organization, Inc. (ISO) rates the community as a whole, with individual insurance companies developing premiums based upon that community score. When the process is complete, citizens in the impacted areas will need to notify their insurance company to realize the potential savings on their homeowner’s policy. This year Osceola County had its tanker shuttle operations evaluated by ISO to see if it would qualify as an alternative water supply. To determine Osceola County’s eligibility for recognition of a tanker shuttle as an alternative water supply, ISO needed to understand the delivery capability of each apparatus and geographical area. Osceola County Fire Rescue had to demonstrate that the water delivery system would be
available 365 days a year and provide 250 gallons per minute for a 2-hour duration within 5 minutes of the arrival of the first apparatus. This requirement had to be possible in all areas of the county which fall within 5 miles of a fire station; including the most rural areas such as Kenansville. ISO considers apparatus arrival times, travel times, discharge rates, fill rates, fire flow at the fire site, wait time for apparatus to fill or discharge their water supply, initial water available, and supply delivery capability. During the evaluation it was determined that the only district that was unable to meet the minimum requirements was Kenansville, Station 57. The second due units were just too far away, and the initial quantity of water available was insufficient. If Kenansville could not meet the minimum requirement then none of the rest of the county would be eligible for the extended rating. En caso de evacuación: • Sintonice la radio del tiempo de NOAA para saber qué hacer y a dónde ir.
Según La Agencia de Protección Ambiental de Estados Unidos (EPA, por su sigla en inglés) más de 35 millones de personas viven en zonas que pueden ser afectadas por huracanes. Los fuertes vientos, lluvias e inundaciones que acompañan a este tipo de fenómeno natural podrían causar daños materiales y poner en peligro la vida de las personas. Saber qué hacer antes, durante y después de un huracán puede ayudar a disminuir los daños, y resguardar su vida y la de su familia.
•Si no está con su familia pónganse de acuerdo dónde reunirse después del huracán.. • Cierre las ventanas y puertas, y desconecte los aparatos eléctricos antes de salir. • Lleve consigo un maletín con ropa, medicamentos, documentos importantes, dinero y suministros.

KUA releases 2014 Hurricane Preparedness Guide Kissimmee, FL - Kissimmee Utility Authority released its 2014 Osceola Hurricane Handbook, a free comprehensive preparedness guide offered annually to Osceola County residents. The 40-page handbook has been revised, updated and enhanced by the utility to provide residents with the most current and up-to-date information available. The guide includes information on emergency shelters, evacuation routes, generator safety and power outage restoration as well as helpful telephone numbers, a disaster supplies checklist and a tropical cyclone tracking chart. The handbook can be downloaded from KUA’s website at www.kua. com/hurricane. Printed copies of the handbook will be available beginning June 10 in the lobby of KUA’s customer service center, located at 1701 W. Carroll Street in Kissimmee. Osceola Schools - Noticias / News Ganadores del Condado Osceola en la Feria Científica del Estado Condado Osceola, FL - La Feria Científica y de Ingeniería del Estado de Florida (SSEF, por sus siglas en inglés) 2014, se llevó a cabo del 8 al 10 de abril en El Lakeland Center en Lakeland, Florida. En la Feria de este año se exhibieron más de 865 proyectos, teniendo más de 925 finalistas en la categoría Junior (6to-8vo grado) y Senior (9no-12mo grado). El Distrito Escolar de Osceola estuvo muy bien representado por once estudiantes, de los cuales regresaron a casa con los siguientes premios:

St. Cloud Automotive Program receives National Accreditation St Cloud, FL - The automotive training program in St. Cloud High School has received accreditation from the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) and The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), a non- profit organization those tests and certifies technicians repair work and certify automotive training programs. To achieve this coveted recognition, the automotive training program at the school went through a rigorous assessment on nationally accepted standards of excellence in areas such as instruction, facilities and equipment used. After
completion of the evaluation, NATEF recommended that St. Cloud High School was accredited by ASE. The Automotive Program St. Cloud High School has been accredited in the following areas: Maintenance and Light Repair. “This is good news for young people who think in automotive and their parents,” said the president of NATEF, Donald Seyfer . “Because this program increases cooperation between local education and industry leaders, doubly assured that graduates of St. Cloud High School will be able to work as
entry-level technicians. Sheriff & Police - Noticias / News Arrestan 2 sospechosos por cargos de drogas y abandono de menores Condado Osceola, FL - El 30 de mayo, agentes del Sheriff del Condado Osceola junto al Equipo de Represión de Estupefacientes ejecutaron una orden de allanamiento en una residencia en Hollyhock Court en Kissimmee. 2 suspects arrested for Drug Charges and Child Neglect Osceola County, FL - On May 30, Osceola County Sheriff’s agents with the Narcotics Enforcement Team executed a search warrant at a residence on Hollyhock Court in Kissimmee. Agents located 26 marijuana plants, 8 grams of marijuana, counterfeit money and a handgun. The residence was in deplorable condition. Trash was on the floor and overflowing from the garbage cans. Roaches, flies and
spiders were on the walls and in the beds. In addition, agents discovered 6 children resided in the home, but were not there at the time of the incident. Based on this information, the Department of Children and Families was contacted and the children were placed in their care. Orlando, FL - The Orlando City Soccer Club continues to be a team Orlando loves to cheer for. The Club added one more win against the Charleston Battery to continue their undefeated record. Kevin Molino headed the ball perfectly in place for Corey Hertzog to send it past Charleston’s keeper. Despite a strong defensive effort by Charleston and determination to even the score, Orlando was able to capitalize and finish the game 2 to 0.
