Kissimmee - Noticias / News Comenzamos el año con cámaras en las luces rojas

Kissimmee, FL - La Cuidad de Kissimmee instalará cámaras en las luces rojas después del primer día del año para mejorar la seguridad del público y disminuir las personas que se pasan la luz roja. Las primeras cámaras se instalarán en Main Street y Neptune Road, y serán activadas en enero. La cámara solamente grabará cuando un carro se pase la luz roja. Se enviarán advertencias los primeros 30 días de operación en cada intersección.

Finalmente, se instalarán cámaras en 10 intersecciones que se consideran tienen un volumen alto de tráfico o donde se han visto conductores pasar la luz roja muchas veces. Las localizaciones se determinaron debido a una inspección de tráfico por video conducida por el Departamento de Policía de Kissimmee (KPD) y debido a muchos accidentes por conductores pasando la luz roja. The New Year begins with red light cameras Kissimmee, FL — The City of Kissimmee will install Red Light Cameras after the first of the year in an effort to address the public safety issue of red light runners. The first set of cameras will be mounted at Main Street and Neptune Road, with the cameras going live in January.

The cameras will only record when a vehicle runs a red light as opposed to recording traffic activity at all times.

Warnings will be issued during the first 30 days of operation at each intersection.

Ultimately, cameras will be mounted at a total of 10 intersections considered to either have a high traffic volume or where there has been repeat activity for red light violators. The locations were determined based on the outcome of a video survey and a review of traffic crashes and red light citations issued by the Kissimmee Police Department (KPD) in the past two years. In some video surveys, more than 70 violations were recorded within a 12-hour period.

Red light cameras will also be installed at the following intersections: Main Street and Columbia Avenue; Vine Street and Bass Road; Vine Street and Dyer Boulevard; Vine

Street and Thacker Avenue; Vine Street and John Young Parkway; Vine Street and Michigan Avenue; John Young Parkway and Carroll Street; John Young Parkway and Emmett Street; and Michigan Avenue and Osceola Parkway This is a public safety issue and the City’s objective is to save lives, not generate revenue. The City will pay Red Flex a monthly fee of $3,850 to cover the cost of equipment, installation, maintenance and repairs, plus ticket distribution. All tickets will be reviewed and approved by a KPD officer. Funds will be generated if the violations exceed $3,850 each month.

If drivers fail to stop before the traffic signal turns red, the cameras will capture their vehicle running through the intersection. This will result in a penalty in the amount of $158, if paid within 30 days of the violation.

Afterwards, a uniform traffic citation will be issued and the amount will increase, along with four points being accessed on the driver’s license, if convicted.

Empleados del Año / Employees of the year Ciudad de St. Cloud selecciona empleados del año del 2011 St. Cloud, FL – Los operadores de comunicaciones del Departamento de Policía de St. Cloud, Jason Clark, Celia Martínez, y Lilyvette Serrano, fueron reconocidos como los empleados del año de la Ciudad de St. Cloud del 2011. “These operators were recognized for their outstanding efforts during a critical situation we had due to software issues,” said Communications Supervisor Nadine Zilke. “The high-priority emergency calls for service were at a high and their roles as dispatchers are of extreme importance; their duties do not end when a call is dispatched.

Once field units are en route and after arriving on scene, communications operators provide informational support and they make decisions

that are often a matter of life and death. These three operators continued to fulfill the vital role of providing assistance to officers, fire personnel, and the citizens of St. Cloud for 15 hours straight despite the software issues.”

St. Cloud, FL – For the eighth year in a row, the St. Cloud Police Department (SCPD) helped the youngest residents of the city of St. Cloud have a merrier Christmas. Volunteer police officers paired up with several children at St. Cloud’s Wal-Mart December 15 for the “Shop with a Cop” program. A total of 34 families will take part in this year’s program.

“Thanks to community support, we are able to offer yet another Shop with a Cop experience for St. Cloud’s children,” said SCPD Community Outreach Officer Ron Caswell. “We are thankful to WalMart stores and local businesses for donating gift cards and to our volunteers who put in extra hours during the busy

holiday season. We are very proud of our community making such a generous and positive contribution to the children who need it the most during this holiday season.”

The Shop with a Cop program allows for SCPD’s police officers and staff to share Christmas with children and families who are experiencing financial difficulties. The children selected for the program are recommended by their schools. Governor Rick Scott appoints two to District Board of Trustees, Valencia College Tallahassee, FL – On Thursday, December 22nd, 2011, Governor Rick Scott announced the appointments of Guillermo “Bill” Hansen and Fernando J. Perez to the District Board of Trustees, Valencia Community College.

Hansen, of Kissimmee, has been the publisher and editor of the El Osceola Star newspaper since 1992 and member of the Osceola Tourist Development Council since 2000. He has served on the board of directors for the Osceola Center for the Arts, Casa de Mexico and the Osceola County Council on Aging.

He is a member of the board of directors of the Kissimmee/Osceola County Chamber of Commerce and founded the Minority Business Council and the Hispanic Business Council for the organization. Additionally, he has served as

committee chair for the Osceola County Sheriff Gang Reduction Task Force and chairman of the Red Cross of Osceola County. From 1997 to 2000, he served on the board of directors for the Osceola County Habitat for Humanity. Born and raised in Mexico, Hansen attended Croydon Technical College and London Tourism College.

He succeeds Edward Moore and is appointed for a term beginning December 22, 2011, and ending May 31, 2014.

For nearly nine years, our nation has been at war in Iraq. More than 1.5 million Americans have served there with honor, skill, and bravery. Tens of thousands have been wounded. Military families have sacrificed greatly – none more so than the families of those nearly 4,500 Americans who made the ultimate sacrifice. All of them – our troops, veterans, and their families – will always have the thanks of a grateful nation.

The colors our Armed Forces fought under in Iraq were formally cased in a ceremony in Baghdad before beginning their journey back home. Our troops are now preparing to make their final march across the border and out of the country.

Iraq’s future will be in the hands of its own people. Our war there will be over.

All of our troops will be out of Iraq. And this holiday season, all of us can finally say: welcome home.

This is an extraordinary achievement – one made possible by the hard work and sacrifice of the men and women who had the courage to serve. And there’s a lesson to learn from that – a lesson about our character as a nation.

For all our differences and disagreements, they remind us that we are all a part of something bigger; that we are one nation and one people. And for all our challenges, they remind us that there is nothing we can’t do when we stick together.

After years of rebuilding Iraq, it is time to enlist our veterans and all our people in the work of rebuilding America.This is a moment for us to build a country that lives up to the ideals that so many of our bravest Americans have fought and even died for. That is our highest obligation as citizens. That is the welcome home that our troops deserve.

Officers along with the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office helicopter canvassed the area for Diaz Cabeza, but he was not located.

Kissimmee police detectives were able to obtain an arrest warrant for Diaz Cabeza for False Imprisonment, Domestic Battery by Strangulation and Battery.

On December 16, 2011, Kissimmee police officers located and arrested Joseph Manuel Diaz Cabeza without incident. He was transported to the Osceola County Jail where he is being held on no bond.

By Roberto Quiroga Orlando, FL - In the annual world series of the National NABA League in Jupiter FL., the Florida Cardinals won for a third time, non consecutively (2008,10,11); in 2009 they were runner-up, losing to the famous New York Mariners, but in the following two years were able to defeat them in the semifinal, claiming “the rematch was doubly rewarding”.

History repeated itself at Roger Dean Stadium just like in 2010, qualifying for the final in FL. The Cardinals played their archenemies the Virginia Snipers, and the Red Machine defeated them 5-4 in what is now an emotional “amateur baseball classic.”

Wilton Garcia, star pitcher of the Cardinals, was named MVP in this classic final, which with a display of talent and aggressiveness from the Red machine, both defensively and offensively, took them to victory.

The tournament MVP was the prospect Landin Diaz who completed 14 innings in 7 games averaging (.571) resulting in 7 hits, 1 double, 1 BB and 1 FC with magnificent production of 6 RBIs and 4 RS. The biggest producer at bat, with giant hits, was Marcos Rodríguez, who in 22 at bats averaged (.500) with 8 Hits, 2 doubles, 1 HR, 3 BB, 1 FC and 1 RE producing 3 RBIs and 5 RS. The star players who came though with clutch performances during the eighth inning of the seventh game were Pedro Reinoso, Luis Ravelo, Jose A. Salas, Marcos Rodriguez and Christian Martell. Two other players with outstanding defensive performances during the ninth inning were Rafael Soto and Juan Infante (Best Glove Award).

Jose A. Salas was awarded the best glove of the tournament for his performance as their catcher during their 60 innings along with tremendous offense connecting on a homerun over 400 feet.

One of the best short stops in the league was Rafael Lara who has amazing base stealing speed.

In the semi-final, the pitchers who dominated New York were Eribel Benitez and Santo Blanco. Jhonny Perez and Rafael Lara were the most effective at bat during this game.

During the quarterfinal games, the pitchers who demonstrated their ex-pro skills were: Darlin Duran, Christian Martell, Jhonny Perez, Wilton Garcia, Leandro Cespedez, Cesar Cedeño Jr. and Eribel Benitez. The Red Machine sluggers (double A-pro) were: Marcos Rodriguez, Larry Renovales, Luis Ravelo, Jhonny Perez, Landin Diaz, Anselmo Vasquez and Rafael Lara.

Since 2001, this team has won all tournaments except for four, where they still finished as runners-up (never third). Among their biggest achievements this year, the FL Cardinals were the USSSA National League four time Florida Champions, five time champions of the Orlando series (spring-summer) and this world series, considered in the USA and Canada as “The most important event in amateur baseball”.

The Orlando Cardinals is composed of future prospects and ex-pros from the Caribbean, always led

by Roberto Quiroga “El Che” and Alex Cardona. Latin blood unites this team as they play for the love of the game. Their sacrifice and joy overflows onto the field while they never give up hope for victory.
