El Sr. Toner fue aerotransportado al Centro Medico Regional de Osceola en Kissimmee donde recibió rápido tratamiento para salvarle la vida. City of Kissimmee Commission recognizes lifesaving effort Kissimmee, FL - The City of Kissimmee Commission presented the City’s Citizen Recognition Award to Ms. Ivette Hynes, during the City Commission Meeting on Tuesday, January 17.

On October 28, 2011, the Kissimmee Fire Department (KFD) responded to a “man down/cardiac arrest” call at Logan’s Steakhouse. The patient, Mr. James Toner, and his wife had just finished lunch. After leaving the restaurant Mr. Toner became weak, lost consciousness and fell head first on to the sidewalk.

Ivette Hynes is a registered nurse and is married to a retired NYPD officer.

Her granddaughter Hailey noticed the incident as she looked out the window.

Hailey told her grandmother, “You have to help that man, he’s bleeding.” Ms. Hynes walked outside and rolled the patient over, noticing an extensive amount of blood.

She called out for someone in the restaurant to bring her a towel, but when

no one responded she removed some of her clothing to wipe away the blood.

Noticing the patient was in cardiac arrest, she began to administer CPR. Soon after, two Osceola County Deputies began to assist her and deployed their AED (Automatic External Defibrillator). KFD crews arrived on scene and began advanced life support on the patient. Mr. Toner was transported by AirCare to Osceola Regional Hospital Kissimmee and received rapid lifesaving treatment.

He was hospitalized for several days, until his condition improved and he was stable. KFD Lt. Joan Robinson visited Mr. Toner in the hospital and he expressed the desire to recognize the people who saved his life.

“Saving Mr. Toner was a group effort– from Hailey, to Ms. Hynes, the deputies, firefighters, and the hospital staff. The entire system came together to save Mr. Toner’s life,” said Kissimmee Fire Chief Robert King.

Sealants are thin plastic coatings applied to the grooves on the chewing surfaces of the back teeth (molars). Sealants placed on back teeth shortly after eruption reduce the need for extensive treatment and associated costs later.

This past fall, the Mobile Dental Van visited 13 additional Osceola schools. A total of 1,006 children were seen during the school visits, and over 2,700 sealants were put into place to help with students’ dental health for free.

Things homeowners should know about their homeowner policy

By Jeremy Hogan Homeowners purchase insurance policies so that they will be protected if something unexpected happens to their home. However, insurance companies at times do not provide homeowners with the coverage they deserve.

Generally, homeowner insurance companies have a duty to thoroughly investigate claims for repair. If a homeowner is told that they have been paid-in-full, but in the end do not have enough money to pay for the repairs, then additional money may be due.

Insurance companies sometimes avoid fully compensating homeowners in various ways.

Under typical insurance policies, here are 10 things all homeowners should know in protecting their rights: • Additional Coverage for Paid Claims: Often, a homeowner may claim additional insurance benefits where the claim has already been paid. Even if a homeowner has already made repairs to their home, he/she may have the right to reopen the claim and make sure that he is given the proper compensation. Homeowners must act promptly in demanding their benefits for property losses.

• Loss of Power: Where there has been a loss of electrical power, a homeowner may be entitled to compensation for loss of food in their refrigerator as well as the cost of an electrician to survey the wiring in the house.

• Carpeting: Where a claim includes damage to carpeting, insurance

companies will first try to convince the homeowner that the carpet can be cleaned. However, more often than not once there is water penetration or glass breakage, the insurance company may be responsible for compensating the homeowner for the replacement of the carpet. The insurance company may also have a duty to replace the padding as well.

• Mold: Insurance companies tend to categorically deny testing and payment of mold claims. Once there is mold, a claim will be presented for the remediation of the mold and the repair of the effected areas. In addition, often all of the contents in the house have to be cleaned or replaced.

• Painting: In order to paint the inside or outside of the house, a lot of preparatory work needs to be done. For example, moving furniture, detaching and resetting light fixtures, and covering windows, electrical outlets, etc. On a typical home, this issue will cost the insurance company several thousand dollars which they typically try to avoid.

• Walls and Insulation: Many homeowners are not aware that if the walls are damaged by water intrusion, insurance adjusters typically fail to include payment for replacement of moldings (crown or base) and the insulation.

La mejor manera de tratar el sangrado nasal es resistir el instinto natural de inclinar la cabeza hacia atrás o recostarse. Debe mantener la cabeza más alta que el corazón para detener el sangrado. Si se inclina hacia atrás, puede tragar sangre, lo que puede producir vomito o diarrea.

La mejor técnica es sentarse e inclinarse un poco hacia delante para que la sangre salga de la nariz.

And, if you lean back, you can swallow blood, which can produce vomiting and diarrhea.

The best technique is to sit down and lean slightly forward so the blood will drain out of your nose. Then,

The septum contains many fragile, easily damaged blood vessels In older adults, a nosebleed may also begin deeper inside the nose, where there are larger blood vessels. This type of nosebleed may be caused by hardened arteries or high blood pressure. These nosebleeds begin spontaneously and often require medical treatment.

The most common causes of bleeds are dryness and picking your nose.

Other causes include injuries, colds, allergies, blowing your nose, an object stuck in the nose, repeated sneezing, nasal sprays and cocaine use.

Orlando, FL - The Wall that Heals, a traveling half-size replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, arrived to downtown Orlando’s Lake Eola Park on Monday, January 16.

The Wall was escorted by over 100 motorcycles from various local Veteran groups. The convoy traveled down I-4 from Longwood, and arrived at Lake Eola between 9:45 and 10:00 a.m.

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund and the City of Orlando are bringing The Wall that Heals, a traveling half-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, to downtown Orlando January 16 through 22. The OMYF All-Star team was announced in the spirit of the NBA Draft as each non-profit organization was recognized and presented with an OMYF jersey or specialty basketball. Representatives were greeted by Orlando Magic Chairman

Dan DeVos, Orlando Magic CEO Alex Martins, Magic Community Ambassadors Nick Anderson and Bo Outlaw, Magic Vice President of Community Relations and Government Affairs Linda LandmanGonzalez and the OMYF team.

With funds raised through OMYF, and the match provided by the McCormick Foundation, a total of $1 million in grants was distributed to these charities. In addition to the OMYF All-Star team announcement, the organizations will be recognized at halftime of the Wednesday, January 18 Magic versus Spurs matchup.

After an extensive five-phase process, which began in July of 2011, the beneficiaries were recommended

by the OMYF “VIP” Committee and the Advisory Council and then approved by the McCormick Foundation’s Board of Directors.

“We are proud to be able to assist these very deserving organizations who work tirelessly to improve the lives of youth in Central Florida,” said Orlando Magic CEO Alex Martins. “It is only possible through a collaborative effort of this community, the DeVos family, our players, coaches, staff, corporate partners and season ticket holders that we are capable of distributing $1 million for the second consecutive year. Magic sweep 4 game road trip

By Kevin Waldbieser Orlando, FL - After 11 days outside of the Amway Center, the Orlando Magic finally returned to their home court on Tuesday to take on the Charlotte Bobcats.

They had been on a four game road trip, which is one of their longest of the season. The trip started in Sacramento where they dethroned the Kings, who had just fired their head coach, Paul Westphal.

Dwight Howard struggled with foul trouble against their young center, DeMarcus Cousins, but Orlando was able to take care of business without the big man.

The win was followed by two days off before the Magic men headed into Portland for one of their toughest matchups yet. The Blazers had been playing good behind power forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who has taken on the role of go-to scorer for the team.

Seven players scored in double figures for Orlando and they led for most of the game. They withstood a late game rally from Portland and pulled out a 107-104 win, giving

the Blazers their first home loss of the season.

The very next night Orlando was in Golden State to take on the Warriors.

David Lee and Monta Ellis proved to be a tough one-two punch for the Magic, scoring a combined 56 points.

New head coach Mark Jackson chose to resort to the “Hack-AHoward” approach on defense, which led to Dwight taking an NBA record 39 free throws in the game. Dwight finished the game with an astounding 45 points and 23 rebounds and the Magic won again.

It was a matinee game on Martin Luther King Jr. Day in Madison Square Garden that finished the road trip for the Magic. They defeated the Knicks 102-93 behind a career high 30 points for Ryan Anderson, who hit 7 three-pointers in the game.

Orlando has split a pair of games back at home against Charlotte and San Antonio and will have to face the Lakers on Friday night.

Sheriff & Police - Noticias / News Se busca hombre envuelto en incidente sospechoso con menores Condado Osceola, FL – Los detectives de la Oficina del Sheriff del Condado Osceola necesitan la ayuda del público para identificar a un individuo envuelto en un incidente sospechoso cerca de la Escuela Elemental Highlands. Looking for a man involved in suspicious child incident Osceola County, FL – Osceola County Sheriff’s detectives need the public’s help in identifying an individual involved in a suspicious incident near Highlands Elementary School. The investigation began on January 4 when deputies responded to the area of Carroll Street and Green Meadow Circle. Upon arrival, deputies spoke with a female adult who indicated she was approached by 2 young girls (approximately 7-8 years old) who said a man exposed himself to them. The girls told the female a man

in a car asked them to approach the vehicle and when they did he was exposing himself. The girls left the area before deputies could speak with them. The female indicated she saw a white SUV in the area that appeared suspicious.

On January 9, deputies located the two girls at Highlands Elementary School. The girls told deputies a white SUV followed them as they were leaving school and then approached them as they were crossing Carroll Street. He asked them to approach the

car and when they did, they observed him touching himself inappropriately.

They describe the suspect as a white male, approximately 20-25 years old with a thin build and blonde Mohawk haircut with black stripes. The girls indicated a boy and girl, approximately 3-4 years old were also in the car.
