El lunes, 10 de febrero, el hospital, dio la bienvenida a su clase inaugural de residentes de Obstetricia y Ginecología. On Monday, February 10th, the hospital welcomed its inaugural class of Obstetrics and Gynecology Residents. Osceola Regional’s Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program received approval from the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) last summer. With this approval, the hospital became the first AOA approved Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program in Southeastern United States. Among the many advantages offered to the new residents is the opportunity to work alongside some of the most well-respected and highly sought after physicians in Central Florida. During their four years of training, residents will be exposed to the full range of situations and demands faced by these physicians. Mark Palazzolo, DO, Program Director for the Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program says the faculty and staff are committed to building an optimal educational environment for the trainees. Osceola Regional is also gearing up to introduce its first class of Internal Medicine residents, as part of its new ACGME program sponsored by the University of Central Florida’s College of Medicine. The Silver Spurs Rodeo is the largest rodeo east of Mississippi and is annually ranked among the top 50 events sanctioned by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA). The sentimental value of 1,944 inches, the Silver Spurs held its first rodeo in 1944. To date, more than 7,200 inches of hair has been

collected by Double J Salon & Spa. “Last year we collected 5,060 inches,” said Lisa Johnson, Owner of Double J Salon & Spa. “I’m so excited to make it to that 10,000 mark,” Johnson exclaims. The White House - Noticias / News Presidente Obama aumenta sueldo mínimo de empleados federales Washington, DC - El Presidente envió el siguiente mensaje a la lista de correo electrónico de la Casa Blanca, que describe el decreto que firmó el 12 de febrero y le pide a los estadounidenses hacerle saber si están listos para un año de acción en 2014. El día de hoy, he firmado una orden ejecutiva para aumentar el salario mínimo a $10.10 para los trabajadores federales de contratados. Es lo que hay que hacer. Pero lo que es más, las empresas han encontrado que cuando sus empleados ganan más, están más motivados, trabajan duro, y se quedan por más tiempo. Usted debe esperar lo mismo de su gobierno federal. Raising the minimum wage would grow the economy for everyone. You don’t need to believe me: Believe the 600 economists -- including seven Nobel Prize winners -- who wrote both houses of Congress last month to remind them that the bill before them

will have little or no negative effect on jobs. When I stood before both chambers of Congress and said that I intended for 2014 to be a year of action, that wasn’t just a nice line in a speech. It was an acknowledgment that we’ve got to restore opportunity for everyone in America -- the idea that no matter who you are, or how you started out, you can get ahead here if you’re responsible and willing to work for it. That’s what this “year of action” is all about. And since that speech, I have taken actions on my own to make it easier for folks to save for retirement, help working Americans get the skills that good jobs demand, and assist millions of Americans who have been looking for work for several months. Puerto Rico - Noticias / News Gobernado Alejandro García Padilla llama a la unidad del país La Fortaleza, San Juan, PR - El gobernador Alejandro García Padilla instó al país a trabajar unidos en los esfuerzos para sacar a Puerto Rico adelante y detalló las acciones que su gobierno está impulsando para atender tanto el problema fiscal como económico. “Quien dude que Puerto Rico va a salir más fuerte que nunca de esta coyuntura, no conoce a los puertorriqueños y las puertorriqueñas; Puerto Rico está de pie, unido; seguro de sí; listo para enderezar sus finanzas. Y Puerto Rico unido es más fuerte que cualquier problema”, destacó el primer mandatario en el mensaje que fue difundido al país por WIPR televisión y radio y retransmitido por varias las emisoras comerciales. García Padilla explicó que las acciones tomadas la semana pasada por las agencias evaluadoras del crédito del gobierno tendrán como consecuencia que el financiamiento de las obras públicas será más caro y aumentarán los intereses a los préstamos que se necesitan tomar para estimular y generar liquidez. Además se anticipa que los vencimientos de algunos préstamos se aceleren, lo que obligará al Gobierno a identificar efectivo de inmediato. La degradación de crédito del gobierno también tendrá consecuencias para el capital puertorriqueño indicó el mandatario. Ante esa situación, García Padilla puntualizó que su administración ha acelerado las acciones para cuadrar definitivamente las finanzas públicas, al tiempo que se trabaja agresivamente

en su plan de desarrollo económico. “El plan requiere que actuemos en dos frentes diferentes pero relacionados: en el fiscal, el foco estará en reducir los gastos del gobierno, maximizar nuestra capacidad de recaudos y allegar liquidez al Banco de Fomento; y en el económico, el foco continuará en estimular la inversión y el empleo. Ambos temas son vitales, pero hay que entender que es en la recuperación económica en donde se encuentra la solución definitiva al problema que enfrentamos. En materia de lo fiscal detalló las siguientes estrategias: • Se reducirá en $170 millones el gasto del año fiscal corriente, sin un solo despido. • Se renegociarán los préstamos cuyos pagos se aceleran por la degradación y se continuará trabajando en alternativas de financiamiento. • Se aumentarán los recaudos reforzando las medidas contra la evasión contributiva. El Departamento de Justicia actuará de inmediato, con toda severidad sobre el tema. • Se procurará tener para fines de año los resultados de un estudio sobre una nueva estructura contributiva que permita un balance adecuado entre todos los sectores del país y promueva el desarrollo económico. El estudio incluye la reevaluación del IVU para ponderar si es la mejor alternativa para todos, tomando en cuenta la deuda emitida contra esa fuente.

Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH) Kissimmee, FL . - Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension is a rare but deadly disease characterized by shortness of breath and progressive loss of exercise capacity. There are many known causes including chronic pulmonary emboli, some medications like diet pills, autoimmune diseases such as scleroderma, as well as cases where no particular cause is identified (idiopathic). The disease usually starts slowly but is progressive and can lead pto disability and death from heart failure within a few years. Because the disease is rare, the diagnosis is frequently made late, sometimes after a patient has seen several doctors. While the disease is felt to be incurable, there are now more than a dozen FDA approved medications that can help delay worsening and improve exercise capacity. • Symptoms of PAH Shortness of breath, worse with exertion, is present in almost all cases of PAH. There are many causes of shortness of breath but PAH should be considered when the shortness of breath is out of proportion to other known causes of shortness of breath such as lung or heart disease. In more severe cases patients with PAH can have edema, chest pain, or even syncope. • Diagnosis of PAH A physician must take a detailed medical history and do a physical examination. Additional helpful tests include an ultrasound evaluation of the heart (echocardiogram) as well as simple exercise testing to measure exercise capacity. For a definitive

diagnosis, a right heart catheterization is performed - an outpatient procedure that takes less than 30 minutes typically where a catheter is advanced via a vein into the right side of the heart and into the pulmonary artery to directly measure pressures and oxygen levels. • Other studies If PAH is diagnosed or suspected, other tests are ordered to try to find the cause or causes of the disease. These may include evaluations for sleep disorders, laboratory tests for other associated or causative conditions, and tests to look for evidence of blood clots in the lungs. • Treatment Aside from treating any obvious conditions that cause or contribute to PAH, there are now more than a dozen FDA approved medical therapies including medications taken by mouth, by inhalation, or by continuous infusion therapy. A PAH physician will decide what treatments are best for a particular case. Once in front of 4190 Warbird Blvd. the suspect in the rear passenger seat walked to the front of the car, pointed a gun at the victim and ordered him out of the car. The suspect struck the victim with his elbow, jumped into the car and the suspects drove away in the victim’s car.

Through the course of the investigation, detectives were able to identify 19-year-old Alexander Javier Mark and 18-year-old James Edward Farley Jr. as possible suspects in both cases. Detectives located Farley and Mark walking from the Budgetel Inn and escorted them to the Kissimmee Police Department. Farley and Mark cooperated with detectives and were charged with carjacking with a firearm and armed robbery. Farley was also charged with possession of Xanax without a prescription. Both were transported to the Osceola County Jail and are held on a no bond status. Additional charges are pending. The cab that was stolen was located in an apartment community near the Budgetel Inn.

Magic defeat the best two teams in the league By Amanda Ludick Orlando, FL - The Orlando Magic have made a few surprising moves over the past week. Despite having the third worst record in the NBA, they have managed to pull off two of the biggest victories over the past week. Last Friday, the Magic hosted the Oklahoma City Thunder, the team that currently has the greatest record in the league. By half time, it looked like an inevitable blow out was about to happen. The third quarter changed all of that. Orlando outscored OKC in the third quarter and was able to hold them to just 14 points in the final quarter. While Kevin Durant did have 29 points in this game, it was not enough to hold of the Magic. If you haven’t seen the final play from this game, I highly advise you look it up. Victor Oladipo grabbed the rebound after a Durant miss with just less than 3 seconds left in the game. Oladipo passed it up the Maurice Harkless. Harkless saw Tobias Harris coming full force and tossed it up to him. Harris was able to slam it in just as the buzzer sounded. Magic won this game by just one point. To say this helped with the team’s confidence would be an

understatement. This was following a Detroit win last Wednesday and is the first back to back victory for Orlando since December. While celebrating this win was expected it was also necessary to move past it and focus on the Indiana Pacers who were on their way to Orlando. The Pacers have the second best record in the NBA. Could the Magic pull of two upsets in one weekend? Could they really beat the two best teams in the league all within a 3 day period? The answer is yes. This game would also come down to the last play. Orlando was up by one and had the ball. Paul George stole the inbound pass but missed the shot opportunity. Orlando let the clock run out and pulled off another one point lead. The Magic’s bench has really started playing together and playing hard. To say something special is developing would be an understatement. This team is slowly transforming and greatly improving. The final game before the All-Star break was on Orlando’s court against the Memphis Grizzlies. While the Magic were able to come back from a 13 point loss and have as many as eight lead changes in the fourth quarter alone, it wasn’t enough to beat the Grizzlies. Memphis won 86 to 81. Both teams looked exhausted as many teams do right before the break.

While most of the Magic players will be enjoying some time off, a couple will be participating the All Star. Victor Oladipo will be playing in the Rising Stars Challenge and was also chosen to participate in the Skills Challenge. Arron Afflalo will also be there this weekend. He will be shooting in the Three Point Contest. Also invited to All Star weekend is the Magic’s mascot, Stuff. Not all mascots are invited and this will be his third year. The Orlando Magic’s next game is in Milwaukee against the Bucks. Hopefully we see the same players in Magic jerseys and the trade deadline is less than a week away.
