A BED OF ONE’S OWN
On the Standing Rock Indian Reservation in North and South Dakota, more than 40% of residents live in poverty. In September 2022, Knights from nine North Dakota councils came together to make and outfit 50 beds for families on the reservation. The initiative, which they called “Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep,” was just the latest among a growing number of innovative K of C projects to engage with and assist Indigenous communities since the Order launched its Native Solidarity Initiative in 2019.
