HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Granted it is not the start of a new fraternal year but only the halfway mark. It is a time to take stock, evaluate and adjust or fraternal plans. So far it seems to be shaping up like 2021 in a way. It looks like we are still going to constantly adjust our plans due to the ongoing pandemic. But if there ever was a group who was agile in difficult times, it is the Knights. Do not despair and never give up – Father McGivney would want us to persevere in all our charitable efforts.
Visit of the Three Kings
This past Sunday I was afforded the opportunity to be the stand-in for the narrator’s part of the live presentation of the Visit of the Three Kings to the Manger at Bethlehem. The pageant, (currently held at the Krohn Conservatory) was started by Western & Southern, The Biedenharn Family and the Cincinnati
I brought my son TJ along for company and an interesting happened, he mentioned to me that he would not mind being a vocal “stand-in” if needed the next time. If you know my son, you know that he is more of a “back stage” person and you wouldn’t think it would be his kind of thing. I was pleasantly surprised. There was a good crowd but hopefully next year we will have an even bigger turnout so spread the word! Shout out to brother Ed Stadnik for all his work.
Our Principals in Action
During the December State Officer’s Meeting in Toledo the officers voted to once again provide
$2,000 grants to each of the dioceses in support of local food banks. It was my honor to present on your behalf the first grant for $1,000 to Agape Ministries in
this year’s Football Sweeps tickets. The recipients thank you from the bottom of their hearts in support of the poor and outcast. Once again in charity the Knights in the Archdiocese ARE making a difference!
The Busy Months Ahead
It seems like twice a year we as Knights kick it into high gear: September and January. With the new year brings Basketball free throws (including the Regional and State Free Throws which are still planned to be held LIVE), Fish Fries, the March Membership Blitz, The E6 and Cincinnati mens conferences, Easter, Mother’s Day, and the state convention. But there is one other HUGE event: The Super Cash Bonanza ticket sales and charity raffle!
For this year and next as State Treasurer I will be the state chairman for the SCB program. The SCB can really help your council’s charity account and as we learned during COVID that mailing tickets really does work! My goal this year is to reach One Million In Sales for Charity! More information about the ticket distribution can be found later in this issue.
Fraternally yours,
Michael J. Felerski State Treasurer

KNIGHTS MUST SHOW COMMITMENT, SUPPORT OF BEACONS OF LIGHT
By Dave Helmstetter, Past State Deputy
The new year will bring much change to the Archdiocese of Cincinnati with the implementation of the Beacons of Light in our parishes. This step in our Faith journey as a Knight of Columbus offers a wonderful and unparalleled opportunity for us to show commitment to our Faith and the building of our parishes.
Archbishop Schnurr, a fellow Knight, has taken a strong, historical initiative with this effort and “the Arch”, as we Knights like to refer to our archdiocese, will draw the attention of all Catholics to see its results. This is a bold step with visionary leadership, as one would expect from the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, to do the following: “The purpose of Beacons of Light is to ensure that all our resources – human, physical and financial – are properly ordered to missionary discipleship.”
The goals are to make parishes stronger, more centered on the Eucharist and fully dedicated to Christ. In today’s world, this is a challenge but also remember as a Knight of Columbus all of us are called to be Beacons of Light. This is a challenge for us to accept.
communication with our pastors and parish leaders on what we can do to support our parishes.
This is a great time to look deeply at the round table program. Review the parishes your council covers and begin to establish roundtable coordinators in them. We need to step forward united, organized and with a helpful approach to each parish of every size. This can be an opportunity for growth in our Order.
Let me refresh your memory about round tables. A parish round table is composed solely of Knights. All Knights, regardless of council affiliation, can be members of a round table. The process works best when an appointed coordinator works directly with the pastor to determine direction and the efforts of the parish round table. Your district deputy or diocesan coordinator can work with you to get this activity off the ground. Again, communications and a united e ff ort are critical to this process.
These are goals all of us share together as Catholics. But what does this mean to the Knights of Columbus and our councils? Without question, we should implore the second principle of our organization: unity. Our councils and brother Knights must work together to support Beacons of Light. Our program efforts should be seamless in supporting the new “Families” of the Archdiocese. The Knights should focus on improving
Another area where the Knights can help in these new families remains vocations. We must continue assisting financially our seminarians through the Support Our Seminarians and RSVP programs. We also must continue to lead in creating vocation awareness through prayers and specific parish programs. We should be the first to volunteer for Archdiocese efforts like the Andrews dinners.
Finally, as Knights, we must lead by our example in supporting as a unified group of Catholic men, Beacons of Light. We need to pray with all of our hearts for its success. Vivat Jesu!

Brothers of the Archdiocese:
Michael Freil
We are at the ½ of our 2021-2022 Fraternal Year. The Membership standings for the State of Ohio are as follows effective 01/01/2022:
We have 54,824 members in the State. Thus far we have an intake number of 627, which puts Ohio at 38.58% of our Goal of 1,850 New Members. Cincinnati Archdiocese is at 43.30%
We need to increase our intake quite a bit in the next few months to meet our Goal.
I am repeating the below paragraph again because we had 15 Form 100s rejected by Supreme last month.
There has been a back log at Supreme Membership in recording the Intake numbers of our New Knights. The back log is being caused by incomplete Form 100s being sent to Supreme Membership. DO NOT SEND ANY REJECTED FORM 100 to Form100@kofcohio.com. That sends the Form 100s directly to Supreme Membership and Me. When a Form 100 is incomplete, it gets put aside until the completed Form 100s are entered at Supreme. If the membership staff has time, they will try to go back and see if they can fill in the missing information. If they can’t, they reject it and return it to me. We are part of the problem causing the back log. Let’s do our part and work at filling the forms out accurately, and it’s always best to use Membership Management.
The correct way of filling out the Form 100 is filling in ALL of the Blanks on Section 1:
Your Council number, Council town, MEMBERSHIP # Date read, Date elected, 1st Degree date. If you have an eMember, they have already been issued a membership number.
Finish the form by filling out ALL of the blanks in Sections 2-5. Make sure the proposer name and membership number is filled out, as that is who generally gets the Monthly Membership Incentives., applicant signs, the F.S. signs as well as the Grand Knight. Then you send it in.
January Membership Incentives are as follows: First 10 Proposers to sign up a New Member before will get $50.00.
The First 3 District Deputies who report a Net Gain of 10 New Members in their District will receive $100.00
Note: In Order for the Incentives to be awarded the New Members MUST have completed their exemplifications.

Fraternal Benefits
As the daylight increases through January I set my sight on the new year and what I would like the agency to accomplish. Setting goals seems like a better idea than making the traditional New Year’s resolutions. Those resolutions seem to go by the wayside pretty quickly; maybe because they always seem the same year after year.
One goal I have set for the agency this year is to check in with every single member. Many of you filled out the Annual Survey you received at the end of last year. Thanks to those that did! It allows us to update contact information and provide service for specific needs. If you did not yet complete it, I encourage you to complete and return it. It can be done online or by return mail.
Another focus we have for goals this year is to follow the tips for everyday holiness from St. Teresa of Calcutta. I recently printed them out and posted them in our agency headquarters. Here they are:
1. Speak as little about yourself as possible.
Tip: Ask others about their day, and take time to listen!
2. Keep busy with your own affairs and not those of others.
3. Avoid curiosity.
Tip: She’s talking about being nosey—the bad kind of curiosity!
4. Accept small irritations with good humor.
5. Do not dwell on the faults of others.
Remember: When you do this, you forget the GOOD in people and that they’re a child of God, too!
6. Accept censures even if unmerited.
Tip: By this, she means taking DISAPPROVAL in a humble way.
7. Be courteous and delicate even when provoked by someone.
Tip: Know when to walk away or “stop responding.” This can be hard and require extra prayers.
8. Choose always the more difficult task.
St. Teresa of Calcutta was known for her simplicity. These are simple tips, but often hard to do.
Please let me know how we may be of service to you and your family!
Again, best wishes for a Happy and Healthy New Year!
Vivat Jesus!
