Nota de las editoras

Es con gran orgullo y alegría que les presentamos la 27ª edición de la revista, Hispanic Culture Review, que incluye obras representativas de la variada experiencia cultural dentro del mundo hispanohablante. El tema elegido este año es la adaptación para honrar la resistencia y el coraje de los que se han adaptado y han superado dificultades. Esta revista no podría existir sin la fuerza, la devoción y la originalidad de nuestros colaboradores.

Fue un verdadero placer leer y seleccionar todos los trabajos que componen esta nueva edición. Estos textos se han reunido y recopilado con intención y han sido elegidos por su pasión, calidez y esmero. Ha sido un honor tener la experiencia de aprender de los pensamientos de nuestros colaboradores y sus interpretaciones de la adaptación en sus diversas formas, desde una comunidad que lucha contra un opresor hasta un individuo que se enfrenta a sus propios pensamientos, y una miríada de experiencias intermedias. Agradecemos a todos nuestros colaboradores por ser tan genuinos y directos acerca de sus experiencias sobre la pandemia, la inmigración, la discriminación y la perseverancia. Esperamos que nuestros lectores encuentren en estos textos la misma inspiración que sentimos nosotras al recopilarlos.

Dadas las circunstancias de este año, la adaptación fue también la fuente de fortaleza de nuestro equipo editorial, ayudándonos a encontrar nuevas formas de colaborar dentro de la realidad virtual a la que la pandemia nos ha llevado. Dicho esto, queremos agradecer el constante apoyo, la positividad y la paciencia que nuestros asesores, Jason Hartsel y la profesora Carla Fernández Burns, nos brindaron mientras navegamos este proceso como el primer equipo editorial de pregrado de la revista, Hispanic Culture Review. Asimismo, nos gustaría agradecer a la oficina de Student Media de George Mason por siempre apoyar nuestra revista y contribuir a la difusión de la cultura hispana durante más de 30 años.

Editors’ Note

It is with great pride and excitement that we present to you the 27th edition of the journal, Hispanic Culture Review, which has works representing the varied cultural experience within the Spanish-speaking world. The chosen theme for this year is adaptation to honor the resilience and courage of those who have adapted and overcome hardship. This journal could not exist without the strength, devotion, and originality of our contributors.

It was a real pleasure to read and select the works that make up this edition. These texts have been gathered and collected with intention, chosen for their passion, warmth, and zeal. It has been an honor to experience and learn from our contributors’ thoughts and interpretations of adaptation in its various forms–from a community fighting oppression to an individual fighting their own thoughts, and a myriad of experiences in between. We thank all of our contributors for being so genuine and forthright about their experiences on the pandemic, immigration, discrimination, and perseverance. We hope that the readers find the same inspiration in these texts that we felt while curating them.

Given this year’s circumstances, adaptation was also our editorial team’s source of strength, aiding us to find new ways to collaborate within the virtual reality that the pandemic has brought upon us. With that being said, we are grateful for the constant support, positivity, and patience that our advisors, Jason Hartsel and Professor Carla Fernández Burns, provided us, as we navigated this process being the first undergraduate editorial team of the journal, Hispanic Culture Review. Likewise, we would like to thank the Student Media office at George Mason for always supporting our journal, and contributing to the diffusion of Hispanic culture for over 30 years.

To our community: we hope we have fulfilled your expectations.
