2018 Scientific Day
The 37th annual Scientific Day was held at the Reed Center - Sheraton Hotel in Midwest City, on April 10, 2018. More than 500 students, residents, faculty and dentists attended the event, which was co-sponsored by Delta Dental of Oklahoma Foundation and Heartland Dental. The evolution of Scientific Day, from its humble beginnings in 1981 to its current size and format, is a testament to the dedication of the students and their faculty mentors who complete meaningful research projects. Of the 56 posters presented at Scientific Day, 16 posters described projects that were funded by the 2017-18 Student Research Program. This was the 25th year of sponsorship of the Student Research Program by the J. Dean Robertson Society and the sixth year of sponsorship by the Delta Dental of Oklahoma Foundation. In addition, this was the ninth year having vendor tables at Scientific Day. The participation of eight vendors highlighted the importance of the academic/corporate partnership and how research translates into better products and services for our patients. Fifty-two judges volunteered their time

and expertise to evaluate the posters and the Ishmael Essay Contest, and a total of $11,800 was awarded in prizes as well as two travel awards for student presentations at the annual meetings of the American Association for Dental Research and the American Dental Hygienists' Association.
