2019 New Faculty Full-Time
Roman Garcia, D.M.D., M.P.H. General Practice Residency and Comprehensive Care Dr. Garcia grew up in Wellington, Florida and graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a degree in philosophy and history. Following graduation, he attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham for post-baccalaureate education. He later attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Dentistry and Public Health. After earning his doctorate, he completed a general practice residency at OU Children’s Physicians Dental Clinic at OU Medicine and is now a clinical instructor in the General Practice Residency program and the Division of Comprehensive Care. Troy Schmitz, D.D.S. Operative Dentistry Dr. Schmitz is a 2015 graduate of the OU College of Dentistry. After graduation, he worked in Midwest City, Oklahoma for several years in corporate dentistry. Coming back to teach was always something he knew he wanted to do and he is now an assistant professor in the Department of Operative Dentistry. David Shadid, D.D.S., M.S.D. Endodontics Dr. Shadid joined the college after having a successful private practice for two years in Oklahoma City. He is a native Oklahoman and is active in his church and community. He is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry and received his master’s degree from the University of Washington in Seattle. He will be assuming the position of Chairman of the Department of Endodontics next summer.
2019 New Faculty Part-Time
Tracy Blessing, D.M.D. A native of Miami, Florida, Dr. Blessing received her undergraduate degree from the University of Florida in 2005, graduating cum laude with a degree in Food Science and Human Nutrition. She then pursued a Doctorate of Dental Medicine degree at Tufts University in Boston, graduating in 2010. Subsequently, she completed a General Practice Residency in New York City focusing on full mouth reconstruction, smile design and facial aesthetics. Since 2011, Dr. Blessing has built and maintained a robust comprehensive dental and facial aesthetic practice in Miami Beach, Florida. She has been an invited speaker and clinical instructor both nationally and internationally on the cosmetic and therapeutic uses of botulinum toxin and dermal fillers. In 2018, Dr. Blessing relocated to Oklahoma City and now maintains practices in both Oklahoma City and Miami Beach.
