R

unners and walkers of all ages hit the pavement on the morning of Sunday, October 17th at Parkland’s Pine Trails Park for the latest edition of the Parkland Dash road race. The annual 5K & 5-mile road race is a favorite for local runners of all levels. The proceeds from this year’s race are being used to help support Parkland Buddy Sports. Parkland Buddy Sports provides

quality sports programming for special needs children and young adults in an empowering, challenging, and loving environment where the emphasis is on having fun, making friends, and realizing your potential. Their volunteers, both students, and adults learn patience, tolerance, and the ability of one person to change the life of another. They also learn that by creating an environment void of physical, social, and cultural barriers there are “NO LIMITS”. This year’s 5-mile race was won by Adam Littke at 31:00, followed by the fastest woman, and second overall finishers Julie Esposito in 32:15. Joel Zaila of Lakeland was the fastest runner in the 5K, finishing with a time of 18:29. The fastest woman in the 5K was Katherine Jovanovic from Boca Raton, finishing in 20:28. The event, which is sponsored by the City of Parkland, also featured a One-mile run/walk that was open to runners of all ages.
