Time for a Christmas Truce

Ready to Feel Healthier? SUPPORT YOUR IMMUNE HEALTH with

VITAMIN THERAPY

D

ecember 24, 1914 was the date of one of the most improbable acts of collective goodwill and fellowship in history. German soldiers conspired with their British and French opponents to declare an informal ceasefire along the Western Front of World War One. After five months of the worst carrange in human history, rank and file soldiers declared what would later be called “The Christmas Truce.” The truce began when groups of soldiers sang Christmas Carols from their trenches. These carols were answered, in turn, by songs from the enemy. Soon, arrangements were made to recover bodies from the “no man’s land” between the opposing forces. This led to interactions between the forces, ending, believe it or not, with gift exchanges and even a soccer match. We often focus on the things that divide us in the modern world. Social media and political journalism highlight differences and frequently induce anger, jealousy, and rage. Next time you find yourself in a fit of anger or a divisive rant, think of the soldiers on the Western Front. Those poor souls, who’s life expectancies were measured in days, not years, found common ground with the very people who were trying to kill them. Maybe, this holiday season we can do the same. Happy Holidays!

Make Tile Floors New Again with Grout Beautiful!

ealing with old, dirty tile floors can be a major headache. No amount of scrubbing can remove dirt and grime once it has penetrated grout lines. Kitchen and bathroom floors resemble checkerboards with dark grout lines. Luckily, there is a solution: Grout Beautiful’s Color Sealing solution will restore any tile floor to a “marble-like” look every time. The highly-skilled and trained estimator from Grout Beautiful permanently color seal grout so that soil will not be absorbed and preventing staining. They perfectly color-match each client’s floor with over 135 custom colors to ensure each job is pristine.

Color Sealing Process

The first step of color sealing is color

matching. Your estimator will apply a small sample of color onto the grout to find the exact color that blends with the tile. This will change the appearance of the floor from a checkerboard look to a “sea of tile.” Once scheduled, the technicians will begin a process of cleaning and drying the floor. Next, multiple coats of color seal is applied, eliminating future absorption of soil into the grout, creating a simple way to maintan your floor tile. Finally, the technicians will buff the floor to a “marble-like” finish.

Like-New Results

Color Sealing a floor can have a huge impact on a room. One customer remarked, “The floor looks like someone ripped out the old tile and put in new ones. Yes, it’s that good and worth every penny!”

Fast Results

Replacing a tile floor is a messy process that can take weeks of demolition, subfloor installation and laying of tile. Color Sealing tile can be done in a day. Once the floor is buffed, it is safe to walk on and cures in just 24 hours.

Durable Results

Grout Beautiful guarantees every job for ten years on residential installations and three years for commercial applications. It is safe to clean with a neutral pH cleaner and with regular maintenance will last indefinitely. more about Grout Beautiful ▸ Toandlearn to receive a free estimate call 954-792-8556.

COMMUNITY NEWS

Joy to the Seniors By Beverly Perkins

F

or over 35 years, Meals on Wheels South Florida has been serving more than 10,000 seniors and 5,000 children an estimated 1.5 million meals each year. As one of 5,000 Meals on Wheels programs across the country. Meals on Wheels South Florida works diligently every day to protect the multitude of seniors from the threats of isolation and hunger. However, the nonprofit organization could not do it without the generous donors and volunteers who help in communities across America just like Broward County.

Wrapped boxes for homebound seniors in Broward County

“Meals on Wheels South Florida is powered every day by community partners, staff, and volunteers standing up to lend a caring hand to their aging neighbors,” said Mark Adler, Executive Director for Meals on Wheels South Florida. “During the holidays we want our clients to remember that they are not alone and that we are here to provide them with a special holiday surprise.” This December, Meals on Wheels South Florida is hosting its 19th annual Holiday Gift Box Program, where they provide 150 of their home-bound seniors in Broward County with a special holiday surprise of personal care items. Each holiday season, the generous hunger-relief organization’s goal is to ensure their clients enjoy the holidays as much as possible. In addition to the nutritious meals and safety checks they already receive; Meals on Wheels South Florida staff and volunteers visit clients during the week of Christmas and present them with a giftwrapped box filled with personal care items.

These boxes are delivered to clients who are generally alone and without family to visit them during the holidays. But much like everything else, it takes assistance from the local community to donate these personal care items such as shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, detergent, and more. “It means the world to me that Meals on Wheels South Florida surprises me during the holidays with this gift box. Living on a fixed income, generous gifts like this make all the difference,” exclaimed Teresa F., 79, of Plantation.

Members of the community can get involved with the Holiday Gift Box Program by donating personal care items or making financial gifts to help purchase items. Items are being received at the Meals on Wheels headquarters located at 451 N. State Road 7 in Plantation Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. until December 15th. Those wishing to donate or volunteer for this program can call 954-731-8770 or email volunteer@mowsoflo.org for more information.

HCA Florida Opens

STATE-OF-THE-ART

HOSPITAL at NSU

T

By Terry Jaillet

here is a brand new hospital serving South Broward County. HCA Florida University Hospital officially began accepting patients on Monday, November 15. The state-of-the-art facility is located adjacent to the campus of Nova Southeastern University and represents one of HCA Healthcare’s largest investments in South Florida. The 300,000 square foot, the multi-specialty hospital is equipped with the latest technology and offers comprehensive healthcare services, including 24/7 emergency care, maternity services with a level III NICU, and a full range of robotic and minimally invasive surgical procedures. The facility replaces HCA’s Plantation General Hospital which is being closed. The emergency room at Plantation General, however, will remain open, serving residents north of 595. University Hospital was built with growth in mind. It will initially have 165 patient beds with the ability to expand to up to 600 beds. “We are excited to be able to drive healthcare with this impressive new facility,” said hospital President Madeline Nava, “Our approach is to individualize patient care. From the time a patient or family member arrives at our hospital, they will be greeted by a guest services coordinator who will help them find their way around. Exceptional patient experiences and worldclass care. That is our goal.” The proximity of the hospital to NSU’s two accredited medical schools is no accident. While neither HCA Florida nor NSU has publically released plans on working together, something is likely in the works. HCA Florida is the largest teaching hospital system in Florida, with more than 2,000 residents and fellows across 25 hospitals and the new hospital came complete with classrooms.

HCA Florida University Hospital is located at 3476 S University Drive in Davie. They have a full-service 24-hour emergency room.

Trash Talking Senior MAKES A DIFFERENCE P By Beverly Perkins

ro-environmentalist Aileen Benitez got down and dirty this past summer. The South Plantation senior was selected to be an intern with Broward County’s Public Works Department. During this time, she was able to earn high school credits while getting paid. The ambitious teen is part of the school’s magnet program that focuses on Everglades’ restoration. Everything she learned will be incorporated into the completion of her senior project which she will present at the 2022 Senior Symposium in the spring. The 5-week internship was divided into two programs: Clean Up and Waste and National Pollutant Discharge System (NPDES) where she completed her internship report. Topics covered included the inspection of groundwater wells and water quality, landfill construction and regulations, GIS mapping, and the repurposing of brick, marble, and tile to create solid foundations for new construction. “My Environmental Management class with Dr. Jody Berman best prepared me for the internship. This experience opened my

eyes to something as big as mountains of trash and something as small as a change in turbidity in the water. I also see how a simple lithium battery thrown in the trash can ignite fires in a recycling facility which can harm employees, shut down a company, and pollute groundwater.” Benitez’s supervisor Amede Dimonnay gave her articles on landfills and regulations to research and take notes. Afterward, both discussed the research about the current effects of landfills on the environment with other team members. Together they brainstormed how to improve the current technology regarding landfills. However, not all the time was spent in the Plantation office. She also accompanied staffers in the field as they inspected sites to make sure trucks were not dumping any cardboard, Styrofoam, wood, or wires into a water source. This opportunity also allowed the eager student to have a hands-on learning experience. “An interesting fact I learned was that they dump crushed porcelain, cement, bricks, and

tiles from construction sites into a lake so that it serves as a good foundation for building structures in the future since the material gets compacted over time,” explained Benitez. “But, the absolute best thing about this summer was being able to meet new people and having to experience how they work. I met amazing people who assisted me in every way, and I am beyond grateful.”

BSO Offers Safety Tips to Keep Your Holiday Safe

H

By Jon Duka

oliday shopping and Amazon deliveries are some of the best things to look forward to during this time of year. Unfortunately, they also offer theives an opportunity to steal. The Broward Sheriff’s Office has offered some simple safety tips to keep you and your possessions safe while you are shopping or traveling. Crime Prevention Specialist Deputy Danielle Quinones says when out shopping be aware of your surroundings. She recommends parking in well-lit areas at night. “Avoid wearing expensive jewelry or carrying large amounts of cash and multiple credit cards; only carry what is necessary.” “Always keep your vehicle locked and do not store shopping bags inside,” cautions Deputy Quinones. “Thieves are watching mall parking lots and shopping plazas for shoppers that place their purchased merchandise inside their vehicles before heading to their next location. If possible, bring your shopping bags with you or drop them off at home, before heading out again.” If your holiday shopping involves a purchase

from Craigslist, eBay, Letgo, or another online classified ad website, consider completing your transaction at a BSO or other law enforcement office. “Always be sure to ask questions before buying or selling an item. Trust your instincts!” warns Deputy Quinones. “And if you’re shopping online, only shop on secure sites. Pay with a credit card, not using your bank account; you’ll get better liability protection. Always check your statements for unauthorized transactions.” The holiday season is a time many residents travel. Deputy Quinones offers the following tips to secure your home before leaving for vacation: ▸  Maintain regular lawn maintenance while you are away. Don’t let your grass grow like a jungle! If burglars are staking out houses, they’ll notice these little things. ▸  Put a hold on your mail and newspapers or have a trusted friend, neighbor or family member stop by to collect these items. Having a full mailbox is a dead giveaway that you are not home. Don’t forget to

22 / Our City Plantation / December 2021 / OurCityMedia.com

remind them to pick up packages and deliveries by the front door. ▸  If possible, leave a vehicle in the driveway. Have a neighbor park his/her vehicle there to give burglars the impression someone is home. ▸  Keep outdoor lights on during the evening/ overnight hours. Indoor lights can be set with timers. Lighting can give the impression that someone is home and possibly deter those ‘unwanted’ guests. ▸  Do not store garage remotes inside vehicles that are left behind while you are on vacation. ▸  Finally, take advantage of the free BSO Home Watch Program. A deputy will check your home for signs of break-ins or suspicious activity while you are out of town.

Bit By Bit, Local Girl Scouts

Are Making a Difference

P

By Beverly Perkins

lantation Girl Scouts from Troop 10707 were eager to earn their Girl Scout Silver Award. The coveted award is one of the highest awards a Girl Scout Cadette can earn. To achieve the prestigious title, the cadettes must make a change for the better. The opportunity to do so allows scouts to show their leadership skills and make a difference in the world. Girls must first identify an issue they care about, and then decide if they want to do it solo or with a team before submitting a proposal to their local Council for approval. The service project must be educational, as well as sustainable after the project is completed. In the end, they must reflect, share, and celebrate it. A minimum of 50 hours is also required to earn the award. It gives girls the chance to explore, reach out, and take action to make their community a better place. Amid the pandemic last summer, Ashley Weiss told her mom that she would like to work on her Silver Award by helping a horse-related charity. So, the ambitious teen began her quest online to locate the perfect one. But unfortunately, she was disappointed to find out she was too young to volunteer. This year, the troop reached out again to Bit-By-Bit Therapeutic Riding Center founder Susan March to see how else they could assist at the center. Together they discovered the many ways their service would be valuable to the 501(C)(3) PATH Accredited Therapeutic Riding Center and an American Hippotherapy Association Registered Facility. Ashley then recruited her fellow Troop 10707 scouts Milana Silva and Sarah McKenzie, and they decided their Silver Award project should benefit the therapeutic riding center. Bit-By-Bit specializes in speech, occupational, and physical therapies for people with physical, neurological, emotional, and cognitive delays and or disorders with the help of specially trained horses. They also offer an adaptive riding program called “Horses for Heroes” free of charge to United States veterans with disabilities. When asked why she was passionate about this project, Ashley said, “Since I have a love of horses myself, seeing disabled people benefit from hippotherapy is inspiring and encouraging.” The girls began by refurbishing a few of the clients’ favorite Sensory Paddock stations and then offered to design and build one of their own. The new Fidget Station in the Sensory Paddock was their colorful creation.

They enlisted local artist Libby Hodges to assist with her artistic touch. Additionally, they renovated and replanted a butterfly and an herb garden with the help of Horticulturalist Angie Carroll of Plantation and built and donated some much-needed storage space in the therapy classroom. Not only did the girls want to help BitBy-Bit physically, but they also wanted to bring awareness to alternative education and therapies like Hippotherapy on a social media platform. So, they started an Instagram campaign to show how important programs like the ones offered by Bit-By-Bit help people who require different ways of learning and how the Davie center provides a muchneeded service in the community. “I learned that if you try to do something, you can do it with a plan. We made plans for everything, and we got everything we planned done. Everything in the project took a few different ideas to make it work or took us building it and rebuilding it to make sure that we could make it as effective as possible. I also learned how I can make a bigger impact than I ever imagined as long as I try,” exclaimed Sarah. Although the scouting trio each put in over 50 hours to accomplish their goal and achieve their award, they are most proud of the impact they made in the community and the lessons they learned while creating their project. “The most successful aspect of this project was when we got to see people enjoying and learning through our new creations. We successfully spread awareness for positive education systems for people with disabilities,” added Milana.

THE DONOWAY CENTER New Clinical Trial Available Now for Patients with Advanced & Metastatic Pancreatic Cancer

Are you, or someone you know, being treated for Advanced or Metastatic Pancreatic Cancer with chemotherapy alone? Contact Dr. Robert Donoway at Atlas Oncology in Hollywood, Florida. Dr. Donoway is leading a new clinical trial using multi-modality therapy: combining Pancreatic Nanoknife Ablation with chemoimmuno-radiotherapy to treat advanced stage cancer patients from around the world. With over 35 years of experience performing pancreatic surgery in South Florida, Dr. Donoway recognized that, because of its late diagnosis, up to 85% of the patients treated with surgery for pancreatic cancer already had metastatic disease. This fact limits the benefit a patient might get from the Whipple surgery. Recent evidence shows that when even advanced disease is treated aggressively in an integrated approach, incorporating Nanoknife surgery with chemotherapy, long-term survivorship can be achieved, especially compared to chemotherapy alone. Dr. Donoway has been a pioneer in the use of Pancreatic NanoKnife, especially for complex advanced cases. During the past decade, he remains the only surgical oncologist performing the procedure in South Florida. Patients from around the globe have traveled to benefit from this ground-breaking treatment, which is

FDA approved. Dr. Donoway also treats other advanced cancers, such as liver, breast, and sarcomas, using Nanoknife surgery. A brief recovery means the patient can start chemotherapy and radiation that much sooner. Dr. Donoway feels that “we are long overdue to revise our approach to treating pancreatic cancer. The treatment has remained largely unchanged for over 80 years and has just broken the 9-10% five-year survivorship barrier. Only thru thinking outside the box will we accomplish the positive. Otherwise, all we’re doing is confirming Einstein’s definition of Insanity.” Dr. Donoway is participating in several clinical studies identifying the best chemotherapy and immunotherapies to be used along with IRE. Dr. Donoway states, “The results so far have been very encouraging and we have begun using it for other select cancers. Among his longest survivors are now patients over eight years without evidence of cancer recurrence. In the past, without IRE they would have been likely to have only lived a year and so this technique opens the whole new avenue for treating those eligible patients in a more targeted fashion.” Dr. Donoway will be presenting the long-term results of his pancreatic treatment paradigm for advanced and metastatic disease later this fall at an International cancer society in Europe For more information about Dr. Donoway and the PancreaticIRE/NanoKnife Program and clinical trials call 305-682-1995 and visit www.AtlasOncology.com.

The Mental Game of Golf By Dean Sklar, PGA Professional

G

olf is a sport where players can get consumed by emotions, distractions and negative thoughts. These factors can make a golfer feel “out of control” resulting in two reactions: giving up (going through the motions to just finish the round) or forced play (trying harder by adjusting mechanics or over-analyzing their play). The most optimal mindset for peak performance requires that you avoid engaging in over-thinking and over-analyzing while playing. In the heat of the moment, pressure and mistakes can seem overwhelming but if you can commit to adopting the right mindset and spend the time to train your mind, your golf game will soar. Always remember, your emotional reaction, your thoughts and your focus are 100% within your control – you just need to learn how to do it. Here are four tips on how to adopt the right mindset.

your pre-shot routine, trust and swing. Anything more than that is useless noise.

TIP #3: Thought Control

You will have thousands of positive, negative and neutral thoughts throughout a round of golf. You may not be able to control which thoughts come into your mind, but you can control what thoughts you grab on to and buy in to. I like this analogy. Imagine your mind is like a fish tank. Different fish swim into your awareness like thoughts. It is up to you to decide which ones you want to focus on. The cute small blue and yellow spotted one or the ugly grey and black fish. Tell yourself that just because a thought comes through your mind, it is your choice whether you stay with this thought or not. Let go of self-defeating thoughts and choose self-enhancing thoughts. Try to do this in your next practice round.

TIP #4: Anxiety Management

Begin to recognize your troublesome thoughts that lead to worrying before and during your performances. Train yourself in relaxation techniques (ie: deep breathing, imagery) to reduce your stress levels. It is important for you to equip yourself with diverse strategies to regain the TIP #1: Competitive Routine calm, clear mind and automatic execution Your pre-shot routine is the key to calm required for peak performance, especially your mind and body. A RARE DISEASE? MAYBE NOT

T

he key to survival of any species depends on the number of battles that the specie wins against environmental factors such as climate changes, presence of predators, food deprivation, and infectious agents including parasites, fungi, bacteria, and viruses. Humankind has been successful in fighting and winning all of these battles, and now we are the dominant specie on earth. We have significant advances in the treatment of infectious diseases, nutritional deficits, metabolic conditions as well as a slow but continuous improvement in the understanding and management of cancer and cardiovascular diseases. However, there is a silent and lethal enemy with an increasing frequency in diagnosing, able to attack every organ or system of the body, known as autoimmunity. This enemy is particularly important because it uses inflammation; a response designed by human evolution to fight against infectious agents and combat defective body cells. When the Immune System loses its harmonic synchrony and is not able to recognize some cells and other substances of the body as a part of its own organism, it generates an immune response. This reaction includes cell infiltration that promotes inflammation and produces cellular death through specialized killer cells (cellular immunity) and the production of antibodies (humoral immunity). One of the most frequent autoimmune diseases is Hashimoto Thyroiditis. Its name derives from. The Japanese physician Hakaru Hashimoto (18881-1934) who reported it at the beginning of the previous century. The thyroid is a small gland located in the front of the neck. It produces a thyroid hormone that controls how the body uses energy. Hashimoto Thyroiditis is also known as chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis. It is an autoimmune disorder that destroys thyroid cells through a cellular and antibody-mediated immune process producing fibrosis impairing the thyroid gland’s ability to produce thyroid hormone. Hashimoto Thyroiditis appears to develop as a result of a complex interaction between predisposing genes (70%) and environmental triggers (30%) like ionic radiation, or some viruses like Hepatitis C.

By Carlos Barbosa, MD

However, the fine details of this interaction are still poorly understood. The incidence is estimated as 0.8 x 1000/year in males and 3.5 x 1000/year in females, affecting approximately 2% of Americans. As with all autoimmune diseases females are 4 to 10 times more frequently affected. The disease tends to run in families, occurring more commonly among middle-aged women, but can be seen at any age, regardless of age and sex. The presence of other autoimmune diseases, like Rheumatoid arthritis, Diabetes type 1, Celiac disease, pernicious anemia, and Addison Disease may increase the risk of getting Hashimoto Thyroiditis. The symptoms are insidious and variable, may affect almost any organ in the body. Many patients with Hashimoto Thyroiditis have no symptoms at onset, but as the disease progresses the patient may manifest symptoms of Hypothyroidism like: Fatigue, exertional dyspnea, exercise intolerance, trouble tolerating cold, weight gain, joint and muscle pain, increased muscle fatigue and weakness, constipation, Depression, Ataxia, slow speech and cognition, absence of tendinous reflexes, dry skin, thinning of hair, alopecia, heavy or irregular periods, slow heart rate, and increase in blood pressure. In some patients, the presentation may have bouts of hyperthyroidism with enlargement of the gland known as Goiter, but then progressively develop signs and symptoms of Hypothyroidism. The diagnosis is often challenging and may take time until later in the disease process. It is based on a complete medical examination and clinical history, as well as blood work including levels of TSH, T3, T4, and Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies. Thyroid Peroxidase is an enzyme that plays a role in the production of thyroid hormones. No correlation has been found between antibodies levels and disease severity. Other antibodies that may be tested include antithyroglobulin and Anti TSH Receptor blocking antibodies. The imaging of an ultrasound will assess thyroid size, echo texture and whether thyroid nodules are present, but usually do not contribute to the diagnosis. The treatment of Hashimoto thyroiditis depends on whether the thyroid is damaged enough to cause hypothyroidism. Patients with elevated TPO antibodies but normal TSH and thyroid hormone levels do not require treatment.

Synthetic Levothyroxine taken orally at an appropriate dose (1.6 to 1.8 mgr./kg./day) is remarkably effective in restoring normal thyroid hormone levels and reversing the symptoms of hypothyroidism. Most patients require lifelong treatment. Finding the appropriate dose may require testing with TSH every 6 to 8 weeks after any dose adjustment. After a working dose is reached an annual TSH test will be required. When levothyroxine is taken in the appropriate dose, it has no side effects, however, when an insufficient dose is taken, serum TSH will remain elevated and patients may have persistent symptoms of hypothyroidism. If the dose is excessive, serum TSH will become suppressed and patients may develop symptoms of hyperthyroidism or have serious side effects, like a form of tachycardia called atrial fibrillation, patients may also develop tremors, osteoporosis and mental changes such as anxiety and mania. Some foods and supplements can affect how levothyroxine is absorbed, for example, grapefruit juice, soy, espresso coffee, and multivitamins that contain calcium and iron, therefore it is recommended to take the medicine on an empty stomach to prevent abnormal absorption. Untreated hypothyroidism can lead to several health problems including high cholesterol, heart disease, heart failure, high blood pressure, and myxedema, a rare condition in which body functions slow down to the point that the life of a patient may be threatened. Hashimoto thyroiditis is a lifelong disorder with no cure, thus it is best managed by an interdisciplinary team, that includes the primary physician, the endocrinologist as well as other specialists. At one source pediatrics, we have a strong alliance with several pediatric specialist's groups, that help us diagnose and treat our patients. Doctors at One Source Pediatrics share the commitment to understand and treat pediatric conditions at the earliest possible stage to prevent irreparable tissue or organs damage and prevent secondary complications.

One Source Pediatrics is located at 1625 N Commerce Pkwy Suite 205, Weston FL, 33326. For more information, please call (954) 659-8550.

LEGALLY SPEAKING

Your 2022 Resolutions

A

By Bruce Iden, Esquire

s 2021 thankfully comes to a close, we naturally begin to think ahead to resolutions intended to change habits, improve our health or make things better for ourselves and our families. Resolutions are simply promises we make to ourselves. Perhaps your new year’s resolutions include walking 10,000+ steps each day, eating a cleaner diet or learning to meditate. Whatever your resolutions may be, consider adding to your list an important one: protecting your loved ones. Let’s look at some basic questions and see if you can answer the following:

will take care of me if I can’t take care of myself? Do I ▸ Who have adequate insurance? Is there a clear successor to manage my financial and business affairs? Are my personal wishes set forth in writing so they are known and accessible when needed?

I am gone, how will my family and loved ones manage the ▸ After debts, taxes, and other legal obligations I leave behind? Have I created a way to reach important family and financial goals?

will take over my business if I am disabled or gone? What ▸ Who can I do to increase the probability that my business will survive after me?

will care for my young children if my spouse and I cannot? ▸ Who What financial protection and instructions have I left for their care?

and how will my spouse, children and other loved ones ▸ When receive their inheritance? How can I be sure they receive their

gifts in a manner which maximizes use and enjoyment but protects against creditors, predators or their own possible fiscal mismanagement? Thinking about these matters can be absolutely overwhelming. But because we care about our families we are obligated to raise these tough questions and explore the answers. As spouses, we want to provide the resources and safeguards to make our loved ones’ futures more secure. As parents, we want our children to have a happy and secure life, especially if that life does not include us. Why not resolve to start the process of caring for your family should something happen to you? The ancient Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu wisely said, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” Your first step is to meet with a qualified estate planning attorney to design and put into place a plan which will ensure that these are promises you can keep. Fortunately, there are many qualified attorneys in the area. Speak to several. Do your research. Ask questions. If you have already done your estate planning, good for you! Please also make a habit of reviewing your plan, including beneficiary designations for insurance policies, retirement accounts and 401(k) plans. Changes in your financial situation, family circumstances and the law may make the revision and updating of your estate plan essential. Life can change in an instant. What are you waiting for?
