you will end up in the peaceful Tara Region, as far from city life as you can imagine. Accessed off the main Moonie and Warrego Highways, Tara is also the starting point for Sunset Way Tourist Drive.

If you are hankering to escape the stress of the city, you’ll find life in Tara happens at a relaxed pace and travellers are always welcome to stay a while and enjoy the Lagoon Parklands featuring Settlers Park and the Walk of Remembrance Garden. The Lagoon offers a cool respite and you can picnic by the water’s edge, fish, cycle or enjoy the interpretive walk to see an abundance of birdlife. What may come as a surprise to visitors is the Hugh Sawrey artworks in the dining room of the Commercial Hotel. Sawrey was a Tara resident in the 1960s, his muse for Australian life and its people, so famously depicted with oil brushstrokes on canvas.

Tara has a proud history in sheep, lamb, and wool production. Locally grown lamb can be purchased from Tara’s FoodWorks and ordered off the menu from the Commercial Hotel.
