What may come as a surprise to visitors is the Hugh Sawrey artworks in the dining room of the Commercial Hotel. While you will find his art hung on the walls of the Queensland Art Gallery and National Museum of Australia, you can also enjoy this legend in Tara. Sawrey was a Tara resident in the 1960s, his muse for Australian life and its people, so famously depicted with oil brushstrokes on canvas. Tara has a proud history in sheep, lamb, and wool production. Locally grown lamb can be purchased from Tara’s FoodWorks and ordered off the menu from the Commercial Hotel.
