OUT BRISTOL WELCOME
Welcome to Out Bristol an independent community magazine and website for the LGBT+ communities of the West of England. Established in 2008 as an independent free access website and guide that joins up the dots to create a hub linking to further support and information. The website and guide quickly turned into a magazine with the same aims as the website as a hub, showcasing what’s on in the region for LGBT+ people. This developed to linking with the tourism board to showcase the great things happening in the city region. The site is now the LGBT+ tourism site for the region, with links to information on where to stay, attractions, festivals and the LGBT+ Scene. We have an open source policy for the site, magazine and social media which means all outbristol
outbristol
content comes directly from the source as they have sent it #nofilter. Our communities are diverse and editing content to one single voice when we are many voices does not allow for free expression. Out Bristol has over 80 contributors via its social media, website and magazine and we welcome people to contribute to the website and magazine as the more voices the better. Out Bristol is your virutal community centre, home of your Out Bristol Magazine. We’re a hub hosting a space to plug your events, social groups and news and we’re 100% independent and non for profit. We’re whatever you want us to be. We would like to thank you for visiting us and supporting Out Bristol. WWW.OUTBRISTOL.CO.UK

CycleOut Bristol
CycleOut Bristol is the Gay Outdoor Club’s local lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender cycling group for Bristol and the surrounding area. The group has been organising regular rides since April 2005 with short, medium and long-distance events to meet the interest of a wide range of cycling ability. The annual programme contains longer rides on the second and fifth Sundays of the month; weekly, short rides on Wednesday evenings from April to September; and monthly women-only “Dykes on Bikes” rides monthly on Monday evenings from March to October. Rides usually depart from the King William Statue at the centre of Queen Square: 10am on a Sunday; 6pm on Mondays and Wednesdays. Anyone is welcome on a ride, which will be adjusted for ability. No one is ever left behind. If there’s a range of ability on a ride, it’s split in two and the faster cyclists take a detour so all participants meet at the same time at the rest stop. Every ride has rest stop; it’s usually a cafe on Sundays and a pub on Wednesday. Always bring food with you on a ride in case there’s a problem. Also, remember to carry working cycle lights as your return on Wednesday evenings will usually be after sun set. If you’re worried about your bicycle, let us know and we may be able to help. VILLAGE DOJO Promoting participation in martial arts for LGBTQ+ people
Bringing the benefits of martial arts training to all people, celebrating diversity and the contribution that LGBTQ+ people can make to the development of all martial arts. We invite martial arts clubs of all styles to share a welcome with LBGTQ+ people and to ensure they promote equality within classes. We intend to create Dojos in which everyone feels safe and is confident to be themselves. Martial arts come from all continents and involves a wide range of techniques including striking, throwing, locking, wrestling and a variety of weapons. Many teach ancient techniques and modern self defence and encompass a variety of approaches to movement. Martial arts often involve physical contact activities and we respect that not all people feel comfortable with physical contact. When you consider which martial arts you would like to try it is a good idea to discuss contact with the instructor before you start. Some martial arts can offer many benefits through kata or form training without contact. Village Dojo started with Ikiyōyō-Ryu Ju Jutsu club in 2011 below Taurus Bar. There have been a number of martial arts clubs operating in the Gay Village over the years. We want to welcome martial arts clubs that serve the LGBTQ+ community to support each other in promoting participation.

DECEMBER AIDS AWARENESS MONTH
Building on the success of our 15th birthday digital celebration in August 2020, which attracted 30,000 viewers, UK Black Pride’s 2021 event will extend to three days, recorded live at an as-yet-unannounced venue in east London. We are acutely aware that our communities will be looking forward to an in-person event this year, but we can’t yet say with confidence that we could put on a physical celebration and keep our communities safe. The safety of our communities is our responsibility – and one we take very seriously – and so we have taken the decision to err on the side of utmost caution. To honour what has been a tremendously difficult year for so many in our communities, UK Black Pride’s 2021 theme is “Love and Rage”. We’ve seen firsthand over the past year our communities’ persistent commitment to each other; the ways we show up, in big and small ways, is nothing short of inspiring. We continue to show what it means to love, to love hard and to love against the odds. We are also raging, disappointed and tired. Our communities continue to be overlooked and undervalued, tokenised and discarded. From constant gaslighting to this country’s steadfast refusal to address and redress structural and institutional racism, we have a lot to be mad about. Our anger is righteous. Our love is righteous. Our 2021 theme claps back against the many ways we are told who we are allowed to be, and how to grieve, love and rage. We will not be quiet, we will not be meek. We will be heard, and we will be loud. UK Black Pride is the space where each of you can show up as all of who you are, with your rage and disappointment, with your unyielding love and capacity for joy. We can’t wait to celebrate and rage with you. Let us show what is possible when we show up in our fury, committed to loving each other and changing the world. Lady Phyll and the UK Black Pride team
