From early human development to European colonisation, the unmistakable beat of the ghoema drum, langarm and Cape Jazz, Cape music is a fascinating example of how contact finds cultural expression. From a distance, the influences read like a sheet of music, each note adding to the melting pot that is Cape
music. Up close, each note invites further exploration, with interesting details of the Cape’s musical heritage. A special Wijn van de Caab Tasting Room feature is the Dik Delta food and wine pairing, which specifically showcases indigenous produce in six small courses matched with SolmsDelta wines.

Set in beautiful Elgin, the Hope @Paul Cluver Amphitheatre will be screening the old-school classic Top Gun this Valentine’s Day, with tickets costing a mere R100 each. Watching a film in a forest theatre is not something many Valentine’s sweethearts will be expecting this Valentine’s Day, but romantics who want to surprise their partners with an extraordinary experience need only buy their tickets and pack a picnic basket. Guests can bring their own food, although warm food and snacks will be on sale on the evening. No alcohol is permitted to be brought into the venue, however Paul Cluver wines will be on sale along with craft beer, soft drinks, teas and coffees. Pack blankets and cushions to sit on, and bring a jacket in case the air gets chilly. Gates for Top Gun open at 18:00 and the
show starts at 19:30. After the movie beneath the stars, there are only two more opportunities to visit the amphitheatre this summer season: The Hidden Year’s Festival on 7 March will pay tribute to the work of some of South Africa’s foremost struggle artists and the Kids Theatre Festival on 28 March will take place with a performance of Roald Dahl’s Fantastic Mr Fox, as well as the plays Get Kraken and Memory. There will also be fun improv-style theatre and lots of fun and games for the family. Spreading the love a little further, the proceeds of all Hope Festival events go to the non-profit Thembalitsha Foundation; an organisation that does tremendous good within the Grabouw area and across Cape Town. Voeg eenvoudig ’n skeut Sedgwick’s Original Old Brown by 200 ml gemmerlim of limonade en heelwat ys.
