VERKEERSBEAMPTES was byna sprakeloos verlede week toe hulle ’n minibustaxi van die pad afgetrek het, en 18 passasiers uit die sewesitplek-voertuig geklim het. Bynadereondersoekisdaarookgevind dat die bestuurder ’n streep misdrywe gepleeg het. Tydens ’n roetine-padblokkade wat Vrydagoggend gehou is in Jan van Riebeeckrylaan, is ’n Toyota Condor-bussie met ’n Venter sleepwaentjie daaraan gekoppel, deur verkeersbeamptes van die pad afgetrek vir inspeksie.

Die passasiers is gevra om uit die voertuig te klim, en soos sardientjies in ’n blik, het 18 mense uit die voertuig gepeul. Hierna het die waarskuwingsklokkies begin lui, en die voertuig is na die Daljosafat-toetssentrum begelei. By nadere ondersoek is nóg talle misdrywe ontbloot. Die bestuurder, Anderson Ntshanka, was nie in besit van ’n bestuurderslisensie, of die nodige publieke bestuurspermit wat benodig word om passasiers te vervoer nie. Daar is ook vasgestel dat die taxi onpadwaardig is en die laaste spyker in hierdie doodskis op wiele, was die feit dat die sleepwa wat aan die taxi gekoppel was, ge-

steel is. Rekords toon dat die waentjie in 2009 in Welgemoed gesteel is, maar die bestuurder van die taxi ry al ’n geruime tyd daarmee tussen Kaapstad en die Oos-Kaap. Die taxi behoort aan Bubu Vervoer van Kaapstad. Alternatiewe reisreëlings is getref om die passasiers na Kaapstad te vervoer, terwyl die bestuurder aangekla is volgens verskeie verkeerswette, asook van diefstal. * Traffic police discovered 18 passengers in a seven-seater vehicle when they stopped a minibus taxi during a routine road-block in Dal Josaphat.

In ’n struweling met haar aanvaller het die vrou twee gebreekte ribbes opgedoen, asook ’n nekbesering. Alhoewel ’n noodvergadering deur die Drakenstein Munisipaliteit hierna gehou is om na veiligheid in die Arboretum te bekyk, is daar steeds geen daadwerklike poging aangewend om hierdie kwessie aan te spreek nie. Toe is kwotasies aangevra vir die uitbreiding van sekuriteitsdienste by die Arboretum om vas te stel of genoegsame fondse beskikbaar sal wees. JAARLIKS word duisende families verwoes deur die verpletterende gevolge van dwelmverslawing. Aan die woord is Morné van der Westhuizen, dwelm-berader van New Life Ministries in die Paarl, self ’n voormalige dwelmverslaafde. Vir jare het Morné nie net sy eie lewe verwoes met dwelms nie, maar ook van dié wat naaste aan hom was. “Sy pad het lelik skeefgeloop toe hy met die verkeerde vriende begin meng het en onder druk, dagga begin rook het. Dit het binnekort gelei tot Tik en hierdie dwelm is die gevaarlikste van hul almal. “Dit vernietig nie net jou lewe en gesondheidnie,maardielewensvanjounaasteook. “Die jong man het als in sy ouerhuis begin steel wat hy kon verkoop. Van meubels, elektroniese goedere, tot klere en selfs kos.” En hiermee is die hele huisgesin ook verskeur, byna uitmekaar uit en finansieel geruïneer. Maar onlangs het sy familie besluit tot hier toe en nie verder nie. Toe hy weer iets vanuit

die huis steel, die keer net ’n hemp van sy broer, is ’n saak van diefstal teen hom gemaak by die Paarl polisie. Hy is summier toegesluit by Allandale-gevangenis, en sy familie weier om sy borggelde te betaal totdat hy toestem tot behandeling. Hy ontvang tans berading van Morné in die gevangenis. “Hierdieismaar’nenkelegevalvandievele waarmee ek te doene kry. Dit is hartverskeurend om te sien hoe families verpletter word hierdeur. ’n Ma bly ’n ma en sal altyd haar kind wil ondersteun. Maar in hierdie geval moes sy harde-liefde uitvoer. “Die groot probleem waarmee ons sit is die ontoeganklikheid tot genoegsame rehabilitasiefasiliteite.” Volgens Morné is daar ’n waglys van tot 8 maande vir verslaafdes om opgeneem te word by staatsinstansies. En dan is privaatinstellings aan die anderkant peperduur. “Wat ons by New Life Ministries bied, is berading vir beide slagoffers van dwelmverslawing en hul families. “Ons toets mense hier om te bevestig dat hulle dwelms gebruik. En dan help ons hulle om opgeneem te word by die regte instansie. “Omdat ek self hierdie pad geloop het, stel ek voor dat die verslaafde ’n intensiewe maandelange program volg by byvoorbeeld Nieuwefontein en/of Noupoort. ’n Kits-kursus vir Tik-verslaafdes werk eenvoudig nie.” Dan wanneer dié persoon weer in die samelewing toegelaat word, begelei New Life Ministries hulle elke tree van hierdie swaar pad. “Dit is vir hulle baie moeilik om weer die wye wêreld in die gesig te kyk, asook diegene wat hulle so teleur gestel het in hul pad van verwoesting. Ons help ook met werkgeleenthede, asook enige bystand wat hulle mag benodig.” Morné kan gekontak word by 071-4841859.

SONDAG sal die tweede herdenking wees van sekerlik die Paarl se donkerste dag, die Paarl Print-brand. Die uitslag van die brandondersoek is aan die vervolgingsgesag oorhandig, wat sal besluit of iemand vervolg moet word. Dertien mense het hul lewens verloor, nadat die brand op 17 April 2009 by die Paarl Print fabriek ontstaan het in Oosterlandstraat, Dal Josafat. Die brand het in die kafeteria ontstaan toe die olie in ’n elektriese aartappelskyfie-braaipan aan die brand geraak het. Dit het vinnig in ’n vuurpoel ontaard wat die fabriek verswelg het. Agt werknemers (Patricia Stoffels, Joseph Johnson, Jenelle Pietersen, Hilton Blankenberg, Thys de Vries, Gerhard Mans, Marshall Diedericks en Marcelle Basson) het tydens die brand gesterf. Vyf ander werknemers (Pieter Saayman, Danielle Albertyn, Sharon Adonis, Liezl Jacobs en

Eric Peters) het later weens hul beserings in die hospitaal omgekom.En twee jaar later soek familielede steeds antwoorde oor die oorsaak van die brand. Verlede jaar is ’n brandondersoek geloods wat deur die Departement van Arbeid gelei is om vas te stel presies wat die oorsaak van die brand was. Tydens die openbare ondersoek is getuienis aangehoor dat die brand vinnig deur die dak versprei het omdat die isoleringsmateriaal, Kulite, nie geskik was nie. Daar is ook getuig dat hierdie materiaal goedkoper is as die een wat in die gebou se planne gespesifiseer is. Getuienis is ook gelewer dat die brandalarm afgeskakel was vir instandhoudingswerk en dat sommige nooduitgange gesluit was. Daar is beweer dat hierdie uitgange gesluit is om diefstal te keer. En ’n brandingenieur, dr Philip de Vos, het getuig die gebou het nie aan verskeie brandregulasies voldoen nie.

Op die vooraand van die herdenking van die Paarl Printbrand, het familielede vertel dat hulle nie sal rus totdat die volle waarheid van die brand ontbloot is nie. Titus Pietersen, pa van Jenelle, is steeds platgeslaan deur sy dogter se tragiese dood. “Ek sal nie kan rus totdat ons antwoorde gekry het nie. Hoe nader die herdenking van Jenelle se dood aankom, hoe erger raak dit vir ons. Dit is asof ’n roof weer oopgekrap word.” Die moeder van Hilton Blankenberg, Lydia, verlang nie net daagliks na haar seun nie, maar sy is ook bitterlik kwaad. “Hilton was ons geliefde seun en ook ons enigste broodwinner. Daar het nie veel gekom van die beloofde ondersteuningsfonds wat op die been gebring is vir die families van die slagoffers van die brand nie. Op ons bejaarde ouderdom sukkel ons nou om kop bo water te hou.” Edwin Stoffels, wie se vrou Patricia gesterf het, het gesê dat die brand onherroeplik sy lewe

en dé van hul twee jong kinders, Robynn (9) en Edley (4), verander het. “Hulle verlang baie na hul ma, veral in hierdie vormingsjare. Die perseel is verkoop en die nuwe eienaar het toegelaat dat ’n boom geplant word ter herdenking aan die oorledenes en ’n granietmonument sal ook daar opgerig word (sien advertensie op bl 7).

When will the carnage stop?

THE state of the minibus-taxi which was impounded last week in Dal Josaphat is shocking to say the least. Not only was the driver unlicensed, but he did not have the necessary permit to transport passengers, the vehicle he was driving was unroadworthy, and the cherry on top is the fact that 18 passengers disembarked from the vehicle which has only 7 seats - a true coffin on wheels. It was also established that the trailer which he was using to transport passengers’ luggage, had been stolen three years ago. The taxi driver had apparently during this time on numerous occasions transported passengers between Cape Town and the Eastern Cape. And not once was he apprehended, even though the licence plate of the stolen trailer was in full view. That was until attentive local traffic officers noticed the unroadworthy, overloaded vehicle. One cannot solely blame the taxi driver or owner for such unscrupulous deeds. Where are the law-enforcers who have been employed to safe-guard our roads? Each year much publicity is given to road-safety because of the high death toll on the roads. And each time that people lose their lives in an accident, the powers that be are up in arms about unroadworthy vehicles and overloading. But clearly these stern words soon fall away, only for the carnage on our roads to continue.

Doing our civicBox duty ANOTHER local government election is about to disturb our once peaceful backwater and the politicians appear to be making a meal of it. It is the big political parties, not the ratepayers, that now decide (often in committee rooms, far away) what, when, where and how municipal policy should be enforced. Hopefully, the appointment of our officials, their remuneration and duties will continue to adhere to accepted norms and remain free from political interference. It is they who will have to carry out these policies. Of the three tiers of Government, local government is the one that most closely affects our daily lives – water, lights, rates, services, subsidised housing and potholes! But, that does not mean the politicians will leave our voters (residents) in peace to make their “informed” choice on Wednesday, May 18th. Our own Man Friday (and Tuesday), for instance, was offered a free jaunt to Cape Town this Tuesday - with all perks, transport and beverages included. This generous offer, it seems, comes from the party that I suspect has failed consistently to get him out of his shack at Fairyland. Maybe he never wanted a house anyway, but what is it that they can offer him in Cape Town when he is registered to vote in Paarl? In spite of all my past efforts to persuade our very helpful and overloaded housing officials in Paarl to help him, he just not seems able to follow through with certain elementary paper work. His deceased girl friend appears to have diddled him out of official ownership of his shack. This is the shack I helped him to acquire some years ago with several hundred rand I don’t want back. Since then said shack has burnt down and been rebuilt at

Democracy is a very fine ideal, as we are now hearing all over the Middle East, but sometimes does not cater for those least equipped to care for themselves. Instead of putting bread on their table, it can destroy stable economies. In Africa, we have seen dangerous forces masquerading in its name when ethnic differences and tribal loyalties struggle for dominance. In its Western form, it depends on a well-informed electorate able to exercise wise choices to ensure that “better life for all”. It was Churchill, I believe, who remarked that democracy was the best of all the very worst forms of Government. He also said capitalism’s weakness was its unequal distribution of wealth, whereas socialism excelled in its equal distribution of misery.

HIERDIE is ’n waarskuwing aan almal wat tuisversorgers in diens het of oorweeg om in diens te neem, asook almal wat iemand anders ken wat moontlik van een gebruik sal maak. Hierdie insident/e is op 30 Maart blootgelê en hierdie persoon (58 jaar oud van Wellington) sal waarskynlik nou ander werk soek. Sy is baie godsdienstig, “vreeslik lief” vir ou en siek mense, en het verskeie goeie verwysings. Sy het ook ’n Educarekursus gedoen en mag dalk probeer om iewers ’n pos te kry om met klein kinders te werk - wees dus daarop ook bedag. Sy was nege jaar in ons diens om na my verswakte moeder (nou 87 jaar) om te sien. Sy het oor ’n lang tydperk my ma sielkundig en fisies mishandel. Voor ons was sy die heiligheid self en het uit haar pad gegaan om ekstras te doen. Weens verskeie redes was my ma te bang om daaroor te praat.

On 17 April, Paarl Media will be commemorating the loss of their friends, colleagues and family in the 2009 Paarl Print fire with a minute’s silence held at 7h50 across the Group. The new owner of the cleared site, Mr Gavin Wolhuter, approached Paarl Media Paarl earlier this year with an offer to allocate a section of the property to become a dedicated memorial site. Clift Granite stepped in with the donation of beautiful piece of granite, in which the names of the deceased will be engraved as a permanent tribute to them. This will be laid in a brick plinth designed and built at no cost by Longworth & Faul Builders and Engineering Contractors. Paarl Media sponsored the engraving. Paarl Media Paarl staff have cleared the site and planted a Koorsboom (Fever Tree). This member of the Acacia family is said to symbolise purity and endurance of the soul. “It is real blessing that such a tragic event resulted in the community uniting in a positive way. SERVICE DELIVERY CUSTOMER SATISFACTION SURVEY Municipal Manager’s message to Drakenstein residents The South African Constitution states that municipalities should have the responsibility to make sure that all citizens are provided with services to satisfy their basic needs. Municipalities must make sure that people in their areas have at least the basic services they need. The Service Delivery Customer Satisfaction Survey will enable residents and business owners to share their perceptions and suggestions about municipal government and various services provided to them by the municipal administration and municipal council. The Municipal Council and Administration often have to make important decisions with limited information and input from residents and businesses during IDP public participation processes. Residents often do not have the time or inclination to attend municipal public meetings to express their opinions. It is from this premise that Drakenstein Municipality is conducting a Service Delivery Customer Satisfaction Survey to gather your views and opinions on many important service delivery issues affecting your daily living. The results will help us learn more about what is working and not working in the municipality and help us establish priorities and budgets based on feedback from residents, taxpayers and businesses. Municipal satisfaction surveys are not a replacement for public participation, but are an additional process and avenue for public to provide an easy, proactive and very cost-effective way of providing feedback and suggestions about service delivery. Due to budget constraints, the municipality will survey a sample of approximately 700 households across Drakenstein Municipality. Fieldworkers from within the Drakenstein jurisdiction will be making door to door visits on randomly selected households from 18-29 April 2011, from 17:00 to 19:00 during the week, and from 10:00 to 11:00 on weekends and public holidays. They can be easily identified by the T-shirts they will be wearing as well as identity cards. Residents are encouraged to put aside a few minutes of their time so that they can be able to voice their honest opinion in order to say they played a role in the improvement of the Municipality Service Delivery. The Service Delivery and Customer Satisfaction Survey project will be conducted by an independent service provider. The names of residents who participated in the survey will remain anonymous. The outcome of the survey will be communicated via local media and other means of communication for all to witness.

Free ID Campaign The Department successfully launched the campaign from 7 to 26 February 2011 in partnership with the Department of Home

Affairs, SASSA, GCIS, B-Municipalities, community development workers and AGRI Western Cape. More than 7 000 vulnerable residents will now have access to crucial social and other government services, and also show their love for their country by voting.

Free transport to central roads were provided and the CWDM particularly wants to thank the members of AGRI Western Cape and other farmers for their valued contribution by providing transport and time-off to their workers.

Investment in Early Child Development! In partnership with the Departments of Health and Social Services, ECD networks and the CWDM Municipal Health, this department is currently in the process of training 200 crèche teachers over a period of six weeks. The training, which runs from February to May 2011, is especially valuable as it is presented by professional Occupational Therapists from the Department of Health. During the process, unregistered crèches are equipped to go through the registration process and in so doing, obtain access to much needed government funding. The training will be concluded with the handover of 100 educational aids to the participating crèches.

Together with community partners such as LoveLife, Fit2Run, schools from rural areas and poorer communities, Network for Organisations working with the Disabled, farm committees and old-age service centres, around 2 000 persons took part with thousands of others in the 2011 Nelson Mandela Freedom Run. The Freedom Run took place on 12 February 2011 at the Drakenstein Correctional Facility and 1 000 learners, 50 disabled people, 300 elderly people and 600 rural residents could partake in an unforgettable nation-building experience!

Altesaam 50 studente het onlangs diplomas in tuisversorging, kleutersorg en in huishouding en kookkuns ontvang. TOERNOOI-WENNERS. Hugenote Hoërskool se o.19A-meisieshokkiespan het gedurende die vakansie uitstekend presteer in die toernooi van die Elsie Coetzer Hokkieskool in Bloemfontein. Die span het al sy wedstryde gewen en geen doel afgestaan nie, terwyl hulle ’n gemiddelde van vyf doele per wedstryd gehandhaaf het. Hulle is uiteindelik as die beste span van die toernooi aangewys. Die kaptein, Grietjie Stander, is ook as Speler van die Toernooi in haar afdeling aangewys.

KWV Empowerment Trust increases shareholding THE KWV Employee Empowerment Trust (KEET), currently the third largest shareholder in the wine and brandy company, has increased its shareholding in KWV Holdings to 8,7%. KEET was established as a trust for previously disadvantaged employees at the time of KWV’s landmark empowerment transaction in 2004. The trust acquired 6,77% of KWV’s shares in the initial transaction, mainly funded through an interest free loan from KWV. In the last eight years, the value of KEET’s investment in KWV more than doubled. Dividend yields from its investments (which include shareholding in Capevin Holdings after the restructuring of the group in 2009) have allowed KEET to not only service its loan, but also to make payments

Young Peoples verloor naelskraap teen Noordelikes NA ’n teleurstellende vertoning verlede naweek op Pniel was die Tiere van Young Peoples Vrydagaand op die Daljosafat-stadion ongelukkig om die wedstryd teen Noordelikes (NNK) met 14-13 te verloor. Die stryd tussen die voorspelers was verwoed en Young Peoples het met goeie verdediging telkemale die voorspeler-momentum en rolmaalbewegings van NNK gestuit. Die Tiere het eerste punte aangeteken toe die losskakel, Cheslyn Cupido, met ’n skepdoel geslaag het. Ná volgehoue druk deur die Tiere se voorspelers is NNK gestraf en Curtly Davids slaag met ’n strafdoel om die telling 6-0 te maak.

Net voor rustyd het NNK ná goeie spel deur hul voorspelers hul eerste drie gedruk en verdoel. Die spanne het gaan rus met die telling op 6-7. Young Peoples het ná rustyd met vinniger rugby die swaar voorspelers van NNK laat bontstaan en was ongelukkig om nie verdere punte aan te teken nie. Verskeie geleenthede om drieë te druk het verlore gegaan deur verkeerde besluitneming. Ná swak verdediging op die Tiere se doellyn het NNK hul tweede drie gedruk om die telling 14-6 te maak. Die Tiere het hierna met nuwe vuur gespeel en die swaar voorspelers van NNK onder druk geplaas.

Ná ’n skrum op die doellyn van NNK het die slot Jason Thorne oorgebars vir die Tiere se enigste drie, wat verdoel is deur Curtly Davids, om die telling te 13-14 te maak Met speeltyd verstreke het Curtly Davids misluk met ’n skepdoel-poging wat die eindtelling op 14-13 te staan gebring het in NNK se guns. Die Tiere het met 4 pogings pale toe misluk en dit het hulle op die ou einde duur te staan gekom. Die tweede span (8-10), derde span (0-47) en o.20’s (6-20) het ook hulle wedstryde verloor. Pniel Villagers klop Kuilsrivier DIE eerste rugbyspan van Pniel Villagers het ’n goeie oorwinning van 24-20 in ’n wegwedstryd oor Kuilsrivier behaal. Dit was geen maklike wedstryd nie en die Pniel-manne moes alles in die stryd werp om hierdie een deur te trek, veral in die laaste minute toe die Kuile die een aanval na die ander geloods het op soek na die wendrie. Die besoekers se verdediging het egter gehou en sodoende is vier waardevolle ligapunte bygevoeg. Virhierdieoorwinninghetniemand harder gewerk as Fernando Adams (haker) wat op aanval sowel as verdediging uitgetroon het. Hy is goed ondersteun deur Strafred Geldenhuys (flank) wat weer eens sy hart uitgespeel het,

terwyl Charlston Williams (agsteman) en Garland Alberts (flank) die donkiewerk in die vastelos verrig het. Agterlangs het Byron Schoeman stewig op heelagter vertoon en elke keer as die geleentheid hom voorgedoen het, het hy netjies by die agterlyn aangesluit en was ook beloon met ’n drie ná ’n volle agterlynbeweging toe hy die ekstra man bewerkstellig het. Villagers se skrumwerk was nie na wense nie en daar sal hard daaraan gewerk moet word voor die volgende wedstryd teen Tygerberg. Drieë is gedruk deur Enrico du Preez, Strafred Geldenhuys en Byran Schoeman terwyl Edwin du Preez met twee strafskoppe en Stefanus met een strafskop geslaag het.

Independent Flyers vlieg hoog DIE plaaslike veerpyltjiespan, Independent Flyers (Strangers), het gedurende die afgelope Western Cape Classicstoernooi op Piketberg stof geskop in die oë van menige teenstander. Op pad na bekerglorie het hul oortuigende oorwinnings behaal oor Sauls (Tygerberg), Kappa en Mount View (Drakenstein), Dolphins (Weskus) asook Hawks (Swartland). Met die ervare Danny Daniels wat van voor af gelei het, het hulle slegs in die rondomtalie rondes vasgeval teen die span van Atlantic (Ocean View). Hierdie span het weer eens bewys dat ervaring gekoppel met die vegsvernuf van jeug, die grondslag lê vir sukses in dié formaat van die spel, want terwyl die jongmanne in Elrico Smith, Craig Johnson asook Ettiene Festus geesdriftig hul vegvernuf ten toon gestel het, het die meer ervare Edward Noble en Brian Williams die manne tot kalmte en fokus gemaan. In ’n spannende finaal teen die span van Glenville (Westelike Provinsie) gelei deur Protea-speler Clifford Stradling, is die spreekwoordelike jakkals in die

hoenderhok losgelaat en het Independent Flyers bo-oor hul meer bekende teenstanders geloop met ’n 7-0 oorwinning. In die dames-afdeling het die span van Kappa (Drakenstein) op ’n drafstap tot in die finaal gevorder. Op pad na die finaal het hul selfs ’n skok-oorwinning behaal oor die manspan van Mount View gelei deur Mervin Isaacs (Protea bestuurder - juniors). Alhoewel hierdie ervare strydros moedig sy span tot sukses probeer lei het, het die dames die toeskouers en spelers na hul asems laat snak met ’n teenaanval wat hul teenstanders tot op hul knieë gedwing het. Oorgerustheid het ongelukkig die span duur te staan gekom en in die finaal kon hul net-net nie die knoop deurhak nie en vasgeval met 7-6 teen Dolphins (Weskus). Dít nadat hul die Dolphins in die blok rondes maklik met 9-4 kon klop. Die hoogste toemaak deur ’n dame was gelewer deur Maxi Keet (118) en Audrey Arendse (Kappa). Charl Pietersen (Drakensteinklub) het gespog met die meeste voltalle (180’s) gelewer in die onderskeie afdelings.

Die 2011 TimeFreight SA Nasionale Skaalvliegtuig-kampioenskappe vir radiobeheerde skaalvliegtuie word vir die eerste keer in die Boland aangebied op die klubterrein van die Boland Model Aircraft Association (BOMAC) naby Klapmuts vanaf 21 April. Hier is een van die beoordeelaars, Andries Theron, besig om sy vliegtuig te lanseer. Dié kompetisie, wat ook ’n kwalifiserende kompetisie vir nasionale kleure is, strek oor vier dae vanaf 21 April tot 24 April. Die Boland-kampioenskappe word ook gedurende dié naweek aangebied. Paarl roeiers presteer in snelroei VERSKEIE van die Paarl Kanoklub se roeiers het onlangs tydens die WP-snelroeikampioenskappe wat in die Paarl aangebied is, hulle goed van hulle taak gekwyt. In die o.18 mans-afdeling het Luke Stowman algeheel in die eerste plek geëindig met Michael Farringer (tans o.16) in die tweede plek. Danie Buys (ook o.16) was algeheel in die derde plek. DIE hoogs gemotiveerde Young Gardens- rugbyspan het daarvoor gesorg dat Young Standards hulle Saterdag vasgeloop het en in ’n spannende wedstryd die aftog moes blaas met 8-9. Die wedstryd was tot die einde in die weegskaal met Standards wat geboer het op die doellyn van Gardens. Verskeie omstrede beslissings het beide spanne aan die raai gehad en Young Standards is talle male gestraf vir hul dryfwerk wat tot groot frustrasie gelei het. Young Gardens se punte is aangeteken deur Cheslyn de Villiers met 3 strafdoele, terwyl Elroy Arendse ná ’n skitterende breekslag vir Standards gaan druk het. Rico Davey het ’n strafdoel oorgeklits. Standards se tweede span het verras en klop die ligakampioen van die afgelope 3 jaar met 5-3. Dit was Young Gardens se tweede span se eerste nederlaag in 3 jaar. Standards se derdes wen ook met 14-8, terwyl die o.14 span van Standards 24-5 en die o.12 span van Standards met 22-10 gewen het.

BARBARIAN-GROEP. Die o.14A-, o.15A- en o.16A rugbyspanne van Hugenote Hoërskool het gedurende die vakansie aan World Sport Event se rugbytoernooi op Stellenbosch deelgeneem. Tien spelers van Hugenote is in die onderskeie Barbarianspanne opgeneem. Agter van links is Oliver McNally (o.16), Frank Abrahams (o.15), Dyllan Nel (o.14) en Raylin Philander (o.15).
