New Fiesta shatters small car mould F

ord’s new Fiesta sports bold new styling, a number of feature enhancements and the introduction of the International Engine of the Year, the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine.

“Customers want cars that are expressive and fun to drive without breaking the bank,” says Ford Marketing Manager, Gavin Golightly. “Fiesta delivers all the excitement and performance drivers are looking for with the added bonus of exceptional fuel efficiency.” With a fresh new exterior, improved material craftsmanship inside and a significant injection of the latest technology from Ford, the new Fiesta is sure to turn heads. The new Fiesta face is dominated by a large trapezoidal front grille bracketed by laser-cut headlamps with daytime running lamps that use LED technology and a power-dome bonnet design. A range of 12 vibrant and dynamic colours, including new Copper Pulse, Hot Magenta and Candy Blue add further appeal. The new Fiesta features a high-gloss finish for the upper instrument panel that flows to the lower centre console and is replicated in door panels. A satin-chrome detailing finish is also offered along with Ford’s signature Ice Blue lighting to illuminate dials, switches and displays. Ford has relocated power window switches, and interior door handles in the new Fiesta to deliver ergonomic improvements and has introduced higher quality contact point finishes. New Fiesta also offers new and improved storage solutions including a new central arm-rest that provides additional storage and door pockets that are larger and more practical. The most dramatic and distinctive Fiesta to date will deliver exceptional levels of fuel efficiency lead by Ford’s patented new 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine. This landmark engine, already selected for both the Popular Mechanics 2012 Breakthrough Award and Engine Technology International’s “International Engine of the Year” Award in Europe, records CO2 emissions of just 99g/km and utilises only 4.3l of petrol per 100km on a combined cycle route - a clear indication of Ford’s commitment to providing consumers with fuel-efficient vehicles. While the diminutive size of the 1.0-litre EcoBoost ensures its efficiency, it offers performance to rival much larger displacement engines. With 92kW and 170Nm on offer the 1.0-litre EcoBoost delivers more power for its size than even some premium cars. EcoBoost is fundamental to Ford’s strategy to provide technologically advanced, high-output, smaller-displacement powertrains that deliver uncompromising performance and fuel economy. EcoBoost engines deliver fuel economy gains of up to 20 percent and reduction of CO2 emissions

of up to 15 percent, compared with larger, less-efficient engines. Ford’s leadership with EcoBoost has resulted in more than 125 patents on the technology. Ford has also introduced Auto-StartStop on the 1.0-litre EcoBoost. This feature automatically shuts down the engine when the vehicle is at idle and restarts it when the driver wants to move off. While the 1.0-litre EcoBoost is garnering plenty of attention, Ford will continue to offer its tried and tested 1.4-litre petrol and 1.6-litre TDCi engines within the line-up. The 1.4-litre engine is a proven performer with 71kW and 125Nm on offer and using 5.7l of petrol per 100 km. The 1.6-litre turbo diesel model produces 70kW and 200Nm while using only 3.6l of diesel per 100km and emitting just 95 g/km of CO2. In addition to its new EcoBoost engine, Fiesta boasts a wide array of technologies and features that keep drivers connected and add to the overall driving experience. SYNC introduced recently on Focus models, is now also available in the Fiesta range allowing the driver to bring digital media players and bluetooth enabled mobile phones in the new Fiesta and operate the devices via voice commands and steering wheel mounted controls. The new Fiesta continues to offer substantial safety features. An anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD) is standard across the entire Fiesta range. EBD automatically varies the amount of force applied to each of a vehicle’s brakes based on road conditions, speed and loading to maximise stopping power while still maintaining control of the vehicle. Hill launch assist, offered as an option on Trend derivatives and fitted as standard on Titanium models, helps prevent the vehicle from rolling backwards after the driver has come to a stop on a slope or incline. Safety is also enhanced with seven airbags (dual front, side, curtain airbags and driver knee airbag), earning the Fiesta a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating. There are three engine derivatives and three specification grades on offer allowing customers to choose the Fiesta that best suits their individual needs, while a selection of option packs will allow customers to tailor a model to their specific needs. The range topping Titanium models are extensively equipped with premium features such as a keyless entry, power start button, auto headlamps, auto dimming rearview mirror, rain sensing wipers, auto folding mirrors with puddle lamps and cruise control. The Fiesta is available with a fully comprehensive 4-year / 120 000 km warranty and 4-year / 60 000 km service plan. Service intervals are staggered at 20 000 km intervals for the petrol derivative and 15 000 km for the diesel models. Customers will also benefit from 3-years of Roadside Assistance and a 5-year corrosion warranty.
