Without the industries of global transport and energy, you would not have the electronic device you are using to read this website, the shoes on your feet, or the gas that powers your car. However, as the global economy develops, so too does the need for greater levels of trade and an even larger demand on energy sources. NetCargo operates within both of these industries striving to continuously push boundaries and provide innovative solutions that will help not only our companies advance, but the overall industries as well. Sea freight is a cost-effective means of shipping large or bulky goods internationally. While air freight has experienced intermittent periods of stagnation since the economic downturn of 2008, sea freight has seen a gradual rise in volume as shippers seek to reduce costs wherever they can. Sea freight services were revolutionised by the introduction of containerisation after the Second World War—loading ships with standardised containers allowed a greater volume of cargo per vessel and removed the need for warehousing. Today, the majority of sea cargo is transported in either TEU (twenty foot equivalent unit) or FEU (forty foot equivalent unit) containers. With NetCargo, you have the option to book either an FCL (full container load) at one of those sizes, or an LCL (part container load) if you don’t have enough cargo to fill a whole container at either of those sizes. Ocean freight can be complicated, and the industry terminology can make it seem like a daunting option at first. It can also be difficult to get your head around what documentation is required. But at NetCargo, we can deal with all of this for you.

THE HISTORY Founded and owned by Captain Karl Sullivan, we are proud to have a 40 year heritage within the container shipping industry. What makes our history unique is the family culture and values that have remained throughout the growth of the company; from operating just one second-hand ship to over 480 vessels, globally. Understanding our history is understanding our company, culture and values. Mr Sullivan’s family originate from the London, UK, a region with deep maritime roots. The family’s records date back to the 17th century. In 1970, Mr Sullivan started NetCargo in the Old Docks as a tramp operator with one second-hand ship, carrying breakbulk.

NetCargo transports a limitless variety of ‘dry’ cargoes to and from the United Kingdom. What never varies is our unswerving commitment to exemplary service standards.
For most of our customers, this service provides the support and equipment to move some of the world’s most commonly traded commodities such as paper, white-goods and scrap metals; however we understand that not all cargoes are quite this straightforward. During our 40 years of experience, we’ve learned how to safely handle, stow and transport more complex cargoes, in turn allowing us to extend our dry cargo services to customers looking to ship food-grade, hazardous and rare/precious cargoes. Hazardous cargo When we transport your hazardous cargo, we take the whole supply chain into consideration. From offering specialist training to our drivers, to the careful planning of container stowage on our vessels, we’ve established our operations to limit the risks associated with this type of cargo. Food-grade cargo We have an extensive inventory of reefer containers for food products that require refrigeration or freezing during transit. We also prepare our
standard containers for other food-grade products to ensure we maintain the optimum condition of your cargo. Each container is dehumidified, offering you peace-of-mind that we can deliver your cargo in the same condition as it was received. Rare and precious cargo We understand that transporting rare or precious cargo can be stressful. When you work with NetCargo you can be assured that your cargo is travelling in safe hands, supported by a company with over 40 years of experience. Shipping dry cargo with NetCargo Supported by our established global fleet of over 2.5 million containers, we offer the equipment, know-how and experience to safely handle your cargo. But what really makes our dry cargo service stand out is our team of over 24,000 dedicated employees. We provide our staff with specialist training to enable them to confidently handle all enquiries regarding our dry cargo services, so you can be assured that our local teams are on-hand when you need them.
